  • cont... Japan learned about folding process from China but they perfected the method "in house" after fighting Emishi.

In fact, the curvature of Katana was more based on Emishi swords.

Having said all these, can people with Kendo and Gumdo backgrounds respectively enagage in friendly spar? - Yes, they can.

  • @rimidalvetarak "Japan learned about folding process from China" i rest my case. From the book the samurai, by Stephen Turnbull page 140 "the first (yamato soldier) swords... were straight... also the so called "korean swords" with a ring base... with a shape of an animal on the base" the Dong dinasty introduced to Japan the "horse Slaugher sword" (斩马刀) in the X century.

  • @msalazarx Yes. Perhaps you meant "Song" dynasty, not "Dong". It is this Sword from Song dynasty China that I was talking about. If I am not mistaken there is even a term used by the Japanese regarding these Chinese swords..... Chokuto.

It would not be a surprise that first Yamato soldier using "Korean" style sword which remembering back in that time, Korean was a colony of China in which Korea pays tribute to China and receive Chinese culture, incl. Chinese sword.

  • Wow I am more interesed with the "hate" posts than the actual video here. I am surprised so many people forgot that these are just sparring/competition/kumite and whatnot. Chill out...

Most Gumdo dojang claim that Samurai originated in Korea under the name Samurang - not true. Korea has never had Samurai or any bodies of men practising sword art.

Katana was based on Chinese saber (dao?) - not necessarily true. First sword in Japan was straight bladed more like Jian. cont...

  • japanese copy korean swordsfighting

  • @japantruthify001 what do you mean?

  • wtf, this's no Kendo. this's two apes fighting each other with bamboo stick. lol

  • @bibibi8888 to critique and make fun of others is easy.

  • William Elliot Griffis, Corea the Hermit Nation,

Corea has no samurai. She lacks what Japan has always had - a cultured body of men, superbly trained in both mind and body, the soldier and scholar in one, who held to a high ideal of loyalty, patriotism, and sacrifice for country.

hwarang history was a lie →watch?v=VtZ2lYKDHA8

Please do not steal a soul of Japanese with a samurai.

and korean please stop making a fantasy myth newly .

  • @saburaix Everybdy knows that samurai are not Korean, and Koreans adapted budo arts since WWII Also evewrybody knows Japanese adapted Chinese culture like confusionism, indian buddism, and the katana is based in the chinese sabre before the samura in 500 AC so. Every culture takes something from others, thats cultural evolution. But that does not mean that we cant practice a good will torunament between all arts to make fiennds and share understanding from martial arts arround the world.

  • Korean began to plagiarize the Japanese martial arts from the late 20th century. Korean martial arts is nothing to the history of Korea. Individual martial arts was not developed in the Joseon Dynasty(Korea).

Taekwondo plagiarized the Shotokan Karate. Tang Soo Do plagiarized Gojyuryu Karate. Haidong Gumdo and Kumdo plagiarized Kenjutsu and Kendo. Hapkido plagiarized the Daitoryu Jujutsu and Aikido. Yudo plagiarized Judo. Hwa Rang Do is not historical martial arts. Hwa Rang was dancer.

Even the firsts horses the samurai used, came from Korea!.
