@MiddnightDreams acutally the mane is for balance not 'steering' you use your body to tell the horse where to go. really if you've never ridden or only ridden a little bit (only assuming since you mentioned 'steering' instead of directing the horse) it would be best to get lessons in natural horsemanship. otherwise,no offense, you'll get a face full of dirt, trust me i tried to jump the gun so to speak when i got my horse and tasted grass for a week lol. in other words i fell off then i learned
Yes but there are listining ears and then just unhappy ears!. People can MAKE horses to do quite a lot of things EVEN BRIDLE-LESS. The horse can still show its displeasure even though he's going through the motions. And of course the tail swishing is a clear sign that its not very happy. Maybe they were just having an off day.
Do you even know how J.F. Pignon trains and works with his horses? By observing what they enjoy doing and then developing it and making it into a game. There is plenty of information out there on how his work is done which would clear some things up.
Sorry re reading that, my post sounds rather rude, didnt mean it like that, was just trying to say there is some good info out there on the methods he uses with his horses

Thats not meaning, that the horse isn´t happy. its "listening" in his direction, it´s concentrating whats coming next. If the horse wouldn´t like doing it or trust, it would not do it.If it isn´t happy it shows it, i know.

Does anyone find it is easier to sit in the saddle bareback cantering than with a saddle???

@Tiffytufo yeah! I think it's because our legs snug on their sides better than on the saddle.

That horse does not look happy. Just look at the ears and the fact that she nods her head a lot.
