I discovered my ancestry to Vikings and Norway & as I looked back over my life, I had done Viking type things all along: crafting swords and daggers out of wood and even woodburning runes into them without looking at anything. I also sailed a wooden tall ship across the NE Atlantic in a 600 ton wooden ship and was made helmsman for the worst part of a storm for over 30 hours. I was naturally one of the best mariners on board. I love to see this remake of the classic design, I want to go too!
nice vid, thanks and yes, the designs are beautiful
I am also hoping to build a small sort of an inspired replica....an eight person canoe intended for efficiently paddling flat water, maybe would add a sail at some point....
Me too! And i am so blessed that i have the skills and interest to make my own. Me and a couple of friends have started building a smaller copy of this ship (the Oseberg) with genuine tools used in teh viking age :D
I am in love with Viking ship design. I reckon they are the most beautiful seaborne craft ever made. This ship is certainly a beauty. I yearn to sail in one, but I dream of having my own. It doesn't have to be a ship, perhaps a boat for 8-9 crewmen.
Being a Viking fighting re-enactor I have sailed Viking ships, though not yet this beauty, and I can testify that they do not just look good. Their sailing qualities are FANTASTIC, where other ships struggle with the sea a viking ship makes love to the sea while flying across the waves. Nothing sails like these, and their speed performance under sail can almost match modern yachts at 16- 17 knots.
This video is wonderful. It makes me appreciate my ancestors even more. I was on a fishing boat in Hvidesand (Whitesands) i Jylland (Jutland)when I was 12 visiting my mother's best friend. That is when I found out I get seasick. The North Sea is not a good place to find this out..lol. Love the video..tusind tak!
From the days of iron men and wooden ships indeed !

@stupidlittleguitar Roskilde Viking Ship Museum has replicas of all the boats found, including a fishing vessel of this size.

Oops. I meant the Gokstad ship. And this is not the Oseberg, this is a copy of Skuldelev 2, found in Denmark.

How fast, will many people ask. But safety is probably the main issue. I wish you all the best on your voyage to Ireland!
