I agree with Nimrooo. My country, Greece, just signed a security pact with Iran to counter Turkey, so this is one EU member that Iran has in its pocket. Greece also feels Iranian economic might (it is the only EU state that owes Iran, with a $600 mil. trade deficit and 85% oil dependency). My cousin in the Greek army says that in a hypothetical war, Iran would crush Greece in less than 10 days, NOT factoring in nukes. So like it or not, Iran all but owns Greece diplomatically. Iran IS tough!

Simply Google such words as Greek-Iranian Alliance, etc. I am proudly Greek, and I certainly have my reservations about this state of affairs, but in the end, Iran is a far more reliable ally than fellow NATO member Turkey, which is by the way one of the reasons for the Greek-Iranian pact. This is not to suggest that Greece is weak, for it is not, but Iran is six times its size, four times as armed, is working on a nuclear device, and enjoys a vase trade advantage over Greece. No contest.

Sure, I don't like the current Iranian persident as well, but many of what you said is really incorrected and seems to be base on western anti-Iran propangada. Iran is the ninth country in the world to launch its own satellite by itself, which even Brazil and South Korea were failed.
Also, the Iranian technology progess should be as same as American 80s technology, which is already far advanced than most other developing country like Iraq, and it's why US didn't dare to invade Iran.

Obviously you didn't know much about Iranian milittary tactics. I admit the sophisticated F-22 could rape out all the Iranian Air Force very soon. But how can you deal with those advanced solid engine ballastic missile Sejjil-2, even MIM-104 Patriot can't intercept it becuase Sejjil-2 could change its trajectory multiple times during flight. @mustafar420 - True, I don't know much about Iranian Military Tactics, however, I do have a solid grasp on U.S. tactics, enough to know that the U.S. military would launch a preemptive strike to eliminate the launch sites of those missiles, plus there are only a limited number of F-22s which have been produced, however, U.S. pilots are highly trained and among the most elite in the World.

Yes, your idea is quite identical with U.S. military tactics. However, Sejjil-2 is not a silo-based ballastic missile, it's a vehicle-launch missile just like old Iraqi Scuds. It's almost impossible to locate a vehicle-launch missile before its launch, just like those Iraqi Scuds launched in first gulf war. Furthermore, Sejjil-2 is far mobile then Scud-B, so it can retreat quickly after launch, and with highly accurate CEP that are less then 50m, it could permit great casualities.

But this discussion is about organized military units, and the U.S. military has shown, most recently in Iraq, how quickly it can dismember an organized military force, for instance the Republican Guard of Iraq, one of the world's most elite fighting forces looked foolish when toe to toe with the American military.

Nope, the republican guards is really another story. Those elite force acted so foolish because their communication and supply system are all crack down after US bombardment, obviciously Saddam didn't focus much on logistics issues. Still, we can look again at 2006 Isreal-Lebanese conflict, Hezbollah forces did still stay in full maneuverability after Israeli bombardment, and thus being able to withstand Israeli invasion. So Iran is not Iraq, despite sombody like to confused them.

Nazi Germany didn't has a strong navy to land the British island to launch a ground attack, and in Vietnam war the US didn't gain ground dominance as well, so US need several years and lots of funds to really conquer Vietnam. What I want to say is that you must supress enemy both by ground and by air to win a war. How could you occupy enemy territory without ground dominance. Air suprmacy did permit some advatange, but didn't guarantee victory.

Second, Iran can't start a war alone under the threat of the US. Despite US propangada, current Iranian armed forces still hold a defensive disposition against Israel. Iran didn't invade any country since 1979, while US and Israel already invade several ones. So still don't be fool by propanganda.

The F-14 was my favorite too! The F-14 was the platform for the AWG-9 radar and the associated AIM-54 Phoenix missile system. Together they gave the USA Air superiority for a generation. Too bad for Iran that prior to being kicked out of Iran after the 79 revolution the Grumman F-14 technicians disabled the AWG9 and Aim 54 capabilities thus rendering the F14 impotent.Using an F14 to deliver gravity bombs is like using a Ferrari to haul farm animals around. It was not made for that.

Nope, Iranian F-14s did a good job in Iran-Iraq war with AWG-9 radar and AIM-54 Phoenix. They shot down more than 141 MIGs and Mirage F-1, and serve as AWACS after ran out of AIM-54.
Furthermore, the IRIAF replaced of the AWG-9's analog electronics with all-digital units in 2005, so it should have the same performance with US APG-71.
AIM-54 remain a big problem though, now Iranians using modified hawk missile as AAM to ensure their F-14s' long range capability.

Boragh APC is an Iranian reverse engineering and improved version of BMP-1, its statistics performance shows it should be as good as Russian BMP-2.
Iranian military experts are long time good at reverse engineering process, so they can always made foreign weapons became their own design:D(other example such as Saeqeh, Shahab, Raad-2 and Toopan)
