  • To hollymoon21: I think it has to do with the Earth's atmosphere. The Earth blocks the sunlights and casts a shadow on the moon. However the moon is still luminous due to indirect sunlight which passes through Earth's atmosphere and then reaches it. The atmosphere filters out most of the shorter wavelenghts (blue coloured light) , leaving longer wavelengths (red coloured) to predominate. These reach the moon, giving it the reddish colour you are talking about.

  • i wonder why the moon doesn't "turn black", i mean, why doesn't it disappear completely like the sun in a solar eclipse? why does it become red instead?
