  • I read the book but the movie is way better. No one else could play Dolores Claiborne like Kathy Bates did. She should have won an oscar for her role. I don't understand why she didn't even got nominated.

  • In the book Joe survived the fall and climbed back out, then Dolores struck him in the head with a rock.

  • @awsomesause333 oh wow. i need to read the book.

  • Loved her acting and the character she played. She done good in that movie doing in with that scum, but when you think of it, he done himself in. She just led him to the place where he could do it. But seriously, something my mother always told me, if a man ever beats you just remember one thing, at some point he has to sleep. Oh yes, he's gotta sleep at some time!

  • Love this movie!

  • oh woah is Joe.....

  • Best movie based on Kings novel. :)

  • I don’t mean to diminish the seriousness of this scene, or its topic. But I think Kathy Bates looks fantastic. She is a beautiful voluptuous woman and she is working that dress. I feel odd watching such an intense scene and thinking, man she looks hot!

  • she is and was such a strong woman, both character and person

  • my fav movie ---- the best thing King EVER did

  • my fav movie ----

  • whats the film called of kathy bates with her family ? and the house that burned down and then they didnt have enough money ... plus they lost the money jar...

  • @Sliemadb1 I'm pretty sure the movie your thinking of is "A home of our own" 1993. Edward Furlong (What ever happened too...?) played her oldest son.

  • Oh Kathy I Love You, amazing!

  • Kathy I love you

  • That was real smooth of her. She killed him without actually killing him.

  • Reminds me of hitchcock's vertigo in terms of colors, scenery and cinematography

  • the end of yellowturd

  • magnifica!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Human debris getting what it deserves?

  • amazing

  • transcribe audio at 1:09 lol

  • This is a classic!

  • I watched this for the first time this week and it is a outstanding film, the work of the three main female actresses was superb. The likes of Megan Fox should watch this to find out what real acting is all about. Whatever happened to the young girl? I am sure this scene is a homage to the technicolour films of the 40's but I could be wrong. I loved Stephen King in high school but I haven't read any of his books in years, I may read this however. David Strathairn is first rate.

  • Its all in the eclipse.

Little Tall Island....later visited by the demon Andre Linoge, during The Storm of the Century.

  • A brilliant scene...dedicated to every woman that's ever suffered at the hands of evil men.

  • I love you, Kathy =')

  • Joe, you sick, evil bastard. I loved this scene and this movie. Kathy Bates was superb (as she is in every movie she's in).

  • this should happen to all pedophiles

  • she mentioned "Shawshank Prison".

  • @goonwichabigass All part of the 'Stephen King-dom'.

  • Keep pressing 1:00

  • I would be one of those cliche douches who say things like "But the book was better!"

But then I thought a bit.

We have movies for a REASON.

So that you don't have to send a week listening to a single story.

And you can get on with your life.

PRAISE THE MODERN AGE! (and Jesus <3)

  • I think the Academy dismissed the movie because it was another Stephen King movie, and, without actually watching it, they thought it would be like Misery. If I recall, the movie caught on through word of mouth, particularly via video rentals. I think it's the best movie she's ever done.

  • Just saw this movie recently an this was a great scene, he totally deserved it! But yeah David strathairn is totally hot and is the dad from the uninvited, totally different in person in both movies, but that's what makes him a great actor!

  • Kathy Bates is my favorite actress (along with Meryl Streep)! She has such a wide range and is not the stereotypical, Hollywood (size 2) type. True talent!!!

    Plus...she hails from Dallas (SMU)!

  • Awesome!!! He deserved that shit!

  • Fantastic actress!!!

  • One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies...Strathairn was HOT.......still is a damn good looking man.

  • I think her husband recently played on the movie "The Uninvited". It's a horrible movie I regret watching, but I have a keen eye for actors. I'm sure the father in this movie played the father in "The Uninvited". Much older and kinder looking, but I think it's him. Maybe I'll check it.

  • its rare to see a movie just as good as the book :)

  • it was just 3000 dollars? why is he willing to kill for 3000 dollars?

  • @jeffbrister2004 nor just that he fucked and raped his own doughter...

  • @jeffbrister2004 because he molested her daughter!

  • I love she adapted the accent so well. i lived in the same town this was shot in, as well as Murder She Wrote. boothbay harbor. i loved there for over a year and heard that accent, never got it myself tho. but by far my fave kathy bates movie and stephen king book.

  • One of the most powerful scenes ever filmed! Kathy Bates and David Strathain (spelling?) were both marvelous in this movie. One of my favorites - thanks for posting!!

  • Hi hvislysettaros! I also agree with you all the way, hon. I have been through it too. I had a hateful step-father while growing up and a mother who did not give a damn. I had a step-mother who had a good heart, but she had an illness and was not always herself. You aren't the only one. It is hard to find people who are willing to openly talk about their abuses. I am glad you are finding support online at least. Good luck and hang in there! Things will get better! *hugs*

  • I also agree with everyone onhere who posted comments about parents being so abusive and insensitive to their kids. Dolores Claiborne is a true masterpiece and shows how a loving mother should take care of a horrid situation like this.

  • I wish every mother was like Doloris. Too bad movies like this are only fiction. Sadly most children these days get sexually abused and no one cares, especially not the parents. Not the mother, the wife of the child molester. She only cares about herself. So don't sit around wondering what is wrong with the world. Now you know!

  • @hvislysettaros2010 Wow, that sure was a big pile of bullshit. Alright, a lot of kids are abused, but not most of them. And most parents care about their kids. Stop talking about things you evidently know nothing about. This is one of the few books Stephen King wrote that didn't involve anything supernatural - This could be reality. And reality is that most parents care more about their kids than anything else.

  • @FakeFaced I am so glad you agree. Parents indeed fill their children's minds with bullshit and scare them into eternal secrecy. They indeed know NOTHING about how to love and protect their children, and they sit on their asses complaining about why the world is so effed up. If more of us had the brains and courage to stand against this horrid crime, we could eventually make a difference in the lives of children of the future.

  • @hvislysettaros2010 Either you are just plain stupid, or you are trying to annoy me. Most parents DO care about their children, and children are NOT abused. You can't just make up statistics in your head and call them facts. I don't think you know anything about child abuse.

  • @FakeFaced Absolutely! He always tried to make me feel stupid as part of the abuse, but the truth is HE was and still IS the stupid one!!! No, he had NO idea at the time he was being abusive. Child molestation is so normal these days it is really not counted as a form of abuse. Even when the abusers are turned in to the law, they don't get their just punishments. Mothers do not divorce their husbands for being child abusers/molesters. So I guess we all need to give in and accept it is normal. :(

  • @hvislysettaros2010 You are too stupid to have a discussion with. I hope you don't breed.

  • @FakeFaced Right you are about him being so stupid. He will pay in Hell. Fortunately his daughter is a really good person. We are close. So it is possible for lunatics to breed and put good people in this world.

  • @FakeFaced Haven't heard back from you in a while. I was hoping to send a personal message of thanks to you, but your profile is not set up for that. Anyway, thank-you for understanding, and showing kindness. It is hard to find good people in this world who really care, especially on the net. Any little help and support I can get means a whole lot. Hope you have a great New Year and please keep in touch! :)

  • @hvislysettaros2010 And I hope you drink acid :-)

  • @FakeFaced Thanks, even though I'm not quite sure what that means. I know it's a compliment though. Have a great evening! :)

  • @FakeFaced I also agree that women should not suffer at the hands of evil men, but especially children too. This is just acting by very talented individuals. It is however a sad reflection of real life. Child molesters and rapists should definitely not breed.

  • Kathy Bates was amazing in this, but David Straitharn... wow. He always plays a quiet nice guy. To see him transform into a such a psycho husband for this movie was unreal!

  • AWESOME ACTRESS.

  • KATHY BATES TEH BEST...GIVE US A SIGN WHAT A WOMAN CAN DO AGAINST THE INJUstice....GREAT KATHY...

  • Kathy Bates... one of THE best character actresses absolutely ever.

  • Kathy Bates is without a doubt a great actress. She should have gotten an Oscar for this.

  • Kathy is indeed a great actress, this is one of my two favorite scenes.

  • her husband was such a low life scumbag! One of the worst fathers ever!

  • well , i have to log in lol.

  • Joe deserved everything he got coming to him from Dolores, thank God she "put him away" in that well

  • Weiß irgendwer, wo ich den ganzen Film sehen kann? (am besten in deutsch)

Does anybody know where I can see the full movie? (best in german)

  • couldn't wait for this asshole to die.

  • is this before or after misery

  • @sparkyinbath after "Misery"

  • I saw this in the theater when it first came out (I was dying to see it b/c I loved the book, and was so happy that Bates was cast as Dolores). The theater was pact, and I vividly remember everyone just sitting in their seats as the credits started to roll, and then I overheard almost everybody raving about how brilliant the movie and the acting were. We all thought she was a shoe in for best actress that year. Often "horror" movies get overlooked, which is ludicrous.

  • thats what the hell he gets!!!!

  • rent the the DVD to watch the movie again with Director's comments. That's when it really sinks in.....sometimes being a bitch.....

  • Amazing movie and amazing performance...Kathy is superb

  • @lauranmary Suprema!!!!!!!

  • I was impressed with this beautiful movie. Kathy Bates made this film - absolutely brilliant performance. She should have won the Oscar or at least being nominated for this award. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Judy Parfitt were stunning as well.

Fantastic movie based on a book by genius Stephen King.

  • this part in the book used to scare me because she described how she had to hit him with a rock after he grabbed her ankle and the way she described his voice was awfull lol

  • i first saw this when i was 12. i loved it from start to finish. KATHY BATES is a phenomenal actress. she scared the s#@! out of me in MISERY. i was only 7 at the time.

  • This one of the best scenes in this, one of my favorite films, she finally gets that abuser, ungrateful man back for his insensitive delusional crazy thinking. GOOD FOR HER!!!

  • Wow great peace acting, thanks for showing this movie,it really lets people see that movies are more than just intertainment but can been seen as a pure form of art,

  • Jesus, this is just pure art, this movie should have swept the Academy that year

  • This scene would be better described as "Total eclipse".

  • kathy is AMAZING iloveherrrrrrr. the other guy is a great actor as well.

  • i love the surrealness of this scene and all of the "flashback" scenes. i love how she jumps higher and farther than she probably did in reality... it's because it's a memory that we, the audience, gets to see her jump so far over the trap. you dig?

  • Kathy owns.

  • @zoll71

Yes! David Strathairn is really EVIL!

  • Joe gets owned by Dolores lol

  • what ? what are you going to do ? lol

  • Such a great movie. Both amazing actors and both well done performances by these two.

  • Kathy Bates in nothing short of incredible! She is such a great actress!!

  • The eclipse was symbolic of God turning a blind eye to the murder of Joe, however, her sin did not go unpunished as demonstrated through the next 18 years of imprisonment with Vera (another murderess who got away with murder) and isolation from her successful, yet bitter daughter. The end of Doloreses' imprisonment and reconsilliation with her daughter is such a wonderful, bitter-sweet ending.

  • @BedfordMilw

Delores' stay with Vera was not imprisonment, as the daughter said Delores could have left her any time, she stayed because they loved each other, they made a life and family of their own when life failed to do it for them,

Delores Claiborne is really a love story between two victimized women.

  • Precisely right, carmenjones411. Vera is an exacting taskmaster, but not an unsympathetic character. As as betrayed woman herself, once Dolores confesses her plight, it is Vera Donovan who provides the signpost to Dolores' own unshackling. As Vera states with blazing but moistening eyes, "An accident, Dolores, can be an unhappy woman's best friend." Dolores then returns the favor, never abandoning Vera once a stroke has decimated the proud and self-assured woman she had always been.

  • go fuck ya self joe.

  • Kathy got cheated out of an Oscar that time. At least she won (and well deserved it) for Misery.

  • He went down screamin like a pig hahahaaaa

  • Kathy Bates is such a fabulous actress.

  • @claritysabbath AGREED!

  • increible, ella ademas de hermosa es una gran gran actriz

  • this is my favorite part out of the movie. the son-of-bitch deserves to die.

  • I just wish they would film Gerald's Game now! Cripes, I'd love that!

  • Me too. I wish I could find my Gerald's Game book. I think it got lost in the move. :(

  • I love that book.... I read it when I was pregnant with my son, though.... BIG mistake...lol.... damn thing gave me nightmares

  • I read the book first and loved it. Then I watched the movie and loved it as well, though certain things they left out puzzled me, like the backstory to Vera Donovan and what made her such a pained character. Still love this movie, but it's one of King's best books and written in Dolores' voice it's superior to the movie. You'll read it like Kathy Bates is sitting across from you giving a play-by-play. :) She nailed this character and should have been nominated AT LEAST.

  • This is probably my favorite movie of all time! I love this film!

Kathy Bates is my hero! She is the greatest actress ever!

I could watch this scene alone over and over! And I have! It's soooo powerful!

Personally, I think that the movie outshined the book in every single aspect...but I feel that way with all the Stephen King books I've read....it's a very rare case, but with King, I feel that the movies are always better.

Misery is another great one :)

    Just fantastic!

  • Just finished the book. Movie doesn't do it even a fraction of a bit of justice.

  • The "well" in this sequence was also on display at the movie theatre in downtown Wolfville for a few months - left by the film company as a momento. The theatre is a 5 minute walk from the Arena where the entire St. George property was built. It was about 10-12 feet tall, with a grassy platform at the top. All the shots you see of Joe hanging are way up in the air, the bottom of the well being the floor level. I am proud to say I have touched the well :) It was eventually discarded. Sad.

  • From the moment she walks out the door, the movie changes into the largest greenscreen sequence ever used in a film (I think the record still stands). The entire St. George house set was built inside the Acadia University Arena on the drained hockey ice surface. A massive 360-degree greenscreen from floor to ceiling encircled the entire rink. This allowed the unique 'eclipse look' background to be placed-in later. Because the real outdoor set was never going to look like that. Simply amazing.

  • More details on the indoor set: This thing was massive. Not only the house and yard, but the entire fields to the sides, and the front field where they do the long run to the well - ALL INDOORS with inlaid CGI-enhanced background. Every bush, tree, and blade of grass was brought in. Several dozen 18-wheelers of topsoil too. It grew in there for weeks while they shot. Kept watered, under UV sunlights, everything! I wish they had a "making-of" feature on the DVD...I should check the BluRay!

  • somebody please upload this movie please I beg ya''''help I wanna see it plese

  • Hi , i am from India. I saw this movie when i worked in London briefly in 2005. It was showing on the BBC. I was just glued to this till the end of the film. Fantastic film. I remember it to this day. Became a fan of Kathy Bates ever since.

  • Kathy Bates stated in an interview on "Good Day New York" june/july 2009, Bates said that "Dolores Caliborne" was by far her best and most "proud of" work. She said "playing a character at two ages, the movement the maine accent, the makeup was something I (Bates) stretched myself to do". The academy awards clearly over looked this juicey role! it was pure heaven! Kathy has definitely mastered her craft to the highest level! bravo

  • Thanks for the information. I just watched it. Glad that Kathy Bates mentioned Dolores as her most proud of work.

  • Read the book its awsome also

  • @arabia1980 I totally agree with you. This was clearly her best work, even better than Misery (which was brilliant). She should be a two time Oscar winner for best Actress. She was simply astonishing in this movie; in fact, I think the movie itself was worthy of an Oscar nod.

  • Yeah it's 300 in the book but the movie is never the same as the book. Dolores confronts Joe with the molesting of his daughter way sooner in the book, but it seems like in the movie he just finds out that she knows about it.

  • she said that Joe spended 500 bucks... wasn't it 300 in the book??

  • Comment removed

  • Kathy gives an amazing performance in this movie.

  • The lighting is also amazing in this scene. This is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. I wish the whole film was up on here.

  • One of a few best performances by an actress EVER! I'd love to see her and Streep together. THose two are the greatest! PERIOD.

  • That would be awesome!! The two greatest actresses of our time!!

  • Thats true. Something real good, with a great script resulting in one of those doube best- actress winners of course (K. Hepburn, B. Sreisand in 1969)

  • he got what he deserves ! LET GOD JUDGE HIM! I WOULD KILL HIM OR ANYONE WHO RAPED MY DAUGHTER !!!!

  • Thanx for posting really enjoyed

  • You are welcome :)

  • This should have brought Bates a second Oscar, and she wasn't even nominated. Shame on you, Academy.

  • A real travesty! THis was better than Mysery. She is tremendous!!!!!!

  • BEST thing KING EVER wrote! Bar none...

  • agreed,but i think misery was a better flik

  • She is a great actress and this was a great movie. top notch

  • What I love about this film, is how stephen king is not afraid to venture outside of his comfortable genre, and creates something like this. Truly a great writer, and a fantastic movie.

  • What a great actress.....

  • what a great film , just show s life can be a bitch , carma was justified

  • she's sooooooo cute *-*

  • esta pelicula es sublime me encanta y adoro a las actrises peliculonnnnnn.

    gracias x subir

  • Kathy Bates has such pretty eyes, juicy lips and a fat juicy butt I'd be chasing her across that damn yard for a whole different reason than Joe and when I caught her she'd get a very severe spanking!.. :)

  • wtf??

  • The book kill scene was heaps more epic, but this is still good.

  • just reading the book at the moment --- this great scene has stirred my interest-- thx for posting

  • Normally I consider King's books to be better than the movies, but Dolores Claiborne is equal in my eyes. Both of them are great. Kathy Bates is a great actress, and I've seen the husband in other movies I just don't know his name.

  • David Strathairn is "Joe" and a great actor. The New England accents were dead on! They were all robbed for an Oscar for this movie!

  • In a rare case, the book bored me. The movie was better! Kathy Bates is tremendous!

  • Kathy bates is a legend,

  • This movie is great, although the book is better (isn't it always so...?)

Do you have the means to put up the entire movie on youtube? I would be eternally grateful if you did!

  • God, the book is so much better.

  • Agree i read the book, and it was so much better... and you know why > because you can imagine ur own world while reading a book..the way you want it

  • siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • the best part of the movie when he drops into the well. excellent movie.

  • YES

  • so does he climb back up at all??

  • haha nope. he's dead.

  • i saw this movie in the middle of the night

...and I belive i still have chills brrrrr

  • i dunno bout u guys but id bang cathy bates

  • Do you have the part when Selina remembers being molested on the ferry? That part is so disturbing.

  • Oh, and I love the Shawshank reference. I love how most of Stephen King's stories take place in the same universe. Furthermore, I think this was the first time that fact was brought up in one of the movie adaptations.

  • That motherfucker got he deserved. I love this movie. I haven't seen it years though. I might have to watch it now.

  • ye wat a pervert

  • One of the best 20 movies of all time! The Oscars can be so wrong at times and they were very wrong to pass this movie up!

  • I couldn't agree more. I have always always loved this film, and the acting is so friggin' deft. This movie is beyond marvelous, and it never loses it's power. I've seen it a million times, but it always holds my interest and takes you to these eerie, haunting, and difficult places.

  • wow that's chilling

  • this is the best movie of all time

  • Kathy Bates is one of the best actresses of our time. Whatever role she plays, whatever movie she's in, she makes the movie! This was my favorite scene in the movie!!

  • I love this movie event though ii just saw it the other day but i love it Stephen King ur a genius!!!!!

  • This is one of my favorite scenes in the film. Great acting on Kathy Bates side. This and the trial scene near the end are awesome.

  • Dolores' Revenge

  • I loved this scene in the movie but you cut it off before the most beautiful part where she's looking down the well and the sky's all red and orange, ah well. =) This is one of my favorite Stephen King Books. xD and this scene was just perfect! unfortunately i hate to say it but the rest of the movie didn't really do the book justice. >.> They took out way too much stuff about Vera including the whole twist to the book. =(

  • what are you talking about the hole part was funny

  • how Sharon Stone (Casino) got nominated for best acting Oscar over Kathy is BEYOND shocking... Her portrayal as Dolores was AMAZING!

  • 4:10 = owned!

  • David Straitharn is one of the most underrated actors out there.

  • yeah, you are right. I also think so.

  • wishv you or someone would put the whole movie on here
