Whenever you're using sat nav to cross country, put it on mute, and whenever its giving you an instruction to turn, zoom the bloody thing out to see if there are any better roads to take.
sat nav systems use digital maps. these maps are made and surveyed by map making companies like TeleAtlas or Navteq. Offcourse maps become outdated as time goes by. And in your particular case you were driving onder lots of trees, this can throw of possitioning because the system can not receive enough GPS signals. (same in tunnels.)
But it is true, sat nav users seem to depend on their systems to much.

How did the sat nav go wrong? It got you there! And you have to know where your going to use a sat nav anyway always check a map first!
