Whether your form is bad or not, I think that these destruction tests are a good way to demonstrate how far you can push this sword. You are quite right about most buyers never setting foot in a dojo. I have a few friends who own katanas and they all love to cut bottles. But not one of them have ever been properly trained or have even taken the time to read about how to properly handle a sword. Anyways, good vid my friend :)
@GTFOVevo Form has nothing to do with testing in a backyard environment. Form is important for dojo testing. We already know exactly how the swords perform in a dojo. What we are testing is what happens in a backyard when the sword is used like a bat or axe. Considering most sword buyers never set foot in a dojo, this is important information.
@Roninkatanas is not sad? i think that Katanas can be a lot sharp edged and can cut a lot more! this demo was awfull it show a very low sharpen katana, i thing those things can event cut huge wood blocks and event metal! and you hardly can cut a silly not to wide stuff?. come on.. whas that really a true traditional katana? it looks not to sharp like the way it suposse to be!!!
@Roninkatanas So sure you cant event cut a bull skull in two with a single swim of the edge, right? is not too sharpen like the legends says. Too bad.

@Ghelimir You know, I think I've changed my mind about this video. Poor swinging form perhaps, but accidents happen and this makes a good illustration of what happens on a bad swing. Whoa, chill out all of you... The maker of the video is affiliated with the makers of that katana, the destruction test was a demonstration of the reliability and resiliency of the sword.
they are not swinging correctly...they swing like Vikings. a katana will cut through a human body with the right form. these guys are just some good'ol boys having fun. nothing wrong with that but none the less a katana is an elegant tool with immense cutting power and they have no idea what they are doing.
Why are all the comments on this video negative!!! He's not trying to prove any skill he has with the Katana, just the amount of abuse it can take until it fails! Dumb asses

LOL @ so many people talking shit about using this in the most abusive manner possible.
You know what they tested the ancient katanas and wakazashis with?? IRON HELMETS. That's why one of the most renowned sword smiths was an armor-smith first, so he can see what works and what doesn't.
@BassmasterD So i was right?, the true ancient katanas where a lot better than those junk store toys we can see on purchase?. So the true legendary katanas can event cut iron helmets?. So a true ancient katana can event cut metal stuffs?? For example cuttin another katana of low quality? The actual katanas arent like the ancient ones, right?
@SutoritoFaitaTsuBui You are definitely right. The process to make a several thousand-dollar sword nowadays employs the same methods as they did back then. It's painstaking, but shows through its quality.
The Armorsmith I was referring to, by the way, was Nagasone Kotetsu, who is known to make iron helmet-cutting swords. One of his 31 swords is actually in a Japanese museum and is considered a national treasure.
You're right-1040 high carbon > 440 stainless or aluminum.
@BassmasterD Aren't ancient Katanas made with Damascus steel? Not the Damascus as we know today but the ancient Damascus. This steel is almost impossible to duplicate because the method to recreate it is lost. Most of the Damascus blades nowadays seem like real Damascus but it's not. Ancient Damascus has a distinct pattern and Damascus nowadays all have different patterns. My point is, no matter how expensive a Katana is, you will never get the quality of a legendary one.
@AliasRonin Damascus and folded tamahagane is very similar in a sense that they are both pounded relentlessly to make a purified hardness that is rivaled by very few.
However, the main difference is the clay heating method used for katanas that give it that hardness difference between the blade and spine - hard blade for cutting and edge retention, and softer spine for shock absorbing.
There is actually a website that does a more advanced Damascus technique, Angelsword
OMg, oMG!!! I really hope that was not a perfect quality, tradiotionally-made katana!! :O Disgrace to you, man... Testing it like that... It's not an axe, you know... Besides, you seemed to loose you balance at the first strike! HAha, I would have enjoyd it if you cut your leg off^^ Apropos that: Why the heck did you step like you did? You are ruthless! I hope you really injure yourself one day, you with no respect for weapons... Thinking it's a toy you can swing around...
@darryl13245 There are these wonderful things on YouTube called descriptions, you should try reading them some time. The people who made this video ARE the people who forged the katana; this is a test of the sword's construction and durability. Also, the fact that you want to see them cut their own leg off and then demand that they 'show some respect' is almost hilarious in it's sheer hypocritical, self-contradictory stupidity.
Even the weakest of Katana's can slice through Plywood with ease, you have no skill, or your Katana's cannot stand the test of plywood. I believe it's both, a good Katana in the hands of an Amateur, can slice through.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. His strokes have the full power of his weight behind them. You don't need special skill to swing something with your weight behind it. You're a katana worshiping know-it-all who has never swung one.
I need not mention the fact that his positioning his wrong to be able to expose that he is brandishing this weapon in the wrong way. It's dangerous! And I probably like yourself didnt just notice that the way he was standing was wrong, but also things like the way he followed through with his swings
want to buy a katana apology but not what is the difference between pro dojo dojo and I am interested that you can use without fear of breaking or something like that and let me know if you can send to mexico and how much it would cost apology Here communicate but could not since my email is canservery@hotmail.com page await your response as it is a fact that one of his katanas comprare thanks:)
If you're going to get a katana, get a good one,Damascus steel only, which is a long and hard processes of bending and layering steel on steel. This makes it razor sharp, and hard and flexible, making it extremely durable. Also only get one that is HANDMADE.THere are some videos of making Damascus katanas, check em out.
WHO GIVES A SHIT IF HE IS DOING IT WRONG THIS VIDEO IS NOT ABOUT TECHNIQUE OR ANYTHING ELSE ! THIS IS JUST A FREAKING DESTRUCTIVE TEST! IF YOU HAVE SO MUCH BAD SHIT TO SAY TO THE MAN DONT FUCKING WATCH HIS VIDEOS I BET NONE OF YOU ASSHOLES HAVE BEEN THROUGH PROPER TRAINING BECAUSE IF YOU HAD YOU WOULDNT BE SUCH ASSHOLES!!!!
How could it be a destruction test if you don't use a proper technique ?
Let me explain : your test is wrong, because a real user of a Katana will use that a way better than you did, so the sword will almost never be destroyed.
If you want to argue like "yes, but if a beginner used it ?", katana were, and are, not gived to beginners.
@gibson82650 Do you even know what is IQ to insult me, or is it just a troll's comment ?
Will you buy it if you were a beginner, man (just in case, i precise : if you were not a collector)? You would be a REAL idiot if you did that.
Let me explain myself : Katana are sharp, they are dangerous, but they do NOT work if you don't know how to use it... They even could be a danger for you... And i think this is the case for most of swords.
If you want to practice, there are Iaito, or Bokuto.
@Gaasm in a irresponsable destruction test like this guy does, did the sword can break easily and the remain fragment can impact in your body? is it a common stuff? so if someone hit a metal objet or a huge wood or three, it would break the Katana and it will hurt you so badly?.
@gibson82650 And if you want to kill anybody, it will be more effective to use a gun, after all, you don't need as much as practice to use it than a sword.
Definitively, those who are buying some sword and are not collector or advance pratiquant are not only idiots, they are insane !
And sorry, if my english is not so good, i'm french.
His form is awful. Surely he has never had proper training. When you swing the sword you never bring your feet forward in the direction of the swing. That is just stupid. Learn how to swing a sword first. It's not just the sword. It is how you handle the sword to get the full potential. Let the weapon be a part of you, let it flow with your body.
That is absolute shit... 1. please do a vid of someone who knows the way of the sword 2. sharpen it to its full potential before use and finally to show a good cut and effectiveness of the Katana itself use Tatami mats ( or rolled up hay)
no offense but you weilding it wrong and within the right hands that katana could slice a gate way from your back yard to your neighboors through your fence
Your stance is not appropriate and you put all ur weight on the left legs your back should be straight and u need to extend ur arms more and make ur snap more height.
For the cameraman the Yoko should be with ankle balance first and take all.
Hey batter batter, sw...... Ow my f***ing eye, damn it jeff, I knew I shouldn't have let u use my katana. (hold the katana like a katana , not like a baseball bat, it's a slashing weapon, not a hacking weapon)
It is a DESTRUCTION test. Not a skill test. We are trying to determine how much abuse the sword can take prior to failure. We already know it is not going to fail in a dojo environment. It is the backyard users that abuse them. This is what goes on in backyards, and what we are testing.
yes that was included in the title, but the test would have been more effictive if the katana was used like a katana, not a bat, the results would be more reliable as aiaido practitioners use their katana like a sword and not a bat, theyre the people who will be buying the swords. by the way it was only constructive critiscism, plz dont get offended.
@Roninkatanas but if your technique is not right then how is your test valid...i mean your not using precise technique that the sword was designed for so your test would be a fail becasue of to many variables.
@Roninkatanas sweet keep it up can you try one from shirly swords i just bought 2 but they are still being shiped to me they are one ebay for like 50 bucks and there best one they sell is 300 you should post a vid of there cutting power
@Roninkatanas agree'd, too bad you cannot be selective about whom you sell a finely crafted blade too... wait.. i think you can, ill google it and post a recomment when i find out.. either way, it may be more trouble than its worth. meh.. nice blade btw, im considering buying one.
@Roninkatanas well if you slash it right it deals muuuuch more dmg .....would go thru that wood like butter....katana if swung right can cut man in HALF!
@Roninkatanas Seems to me like your testing a katana's uselessness against anything other than plastic and soft plant life. but I will agree that play -cough, snigger- is a good way to test the failing point of a katana.
@yayayurrr you talk like you know how to swing a katana, shocked that someone like me whos only taken iaido for a month picked up on the fact that he was swinging the same direction as the leg he had in front yet you didn't critic that at all
Plus its a destruction test, hes trying to break it.. kinda
your dumb bet your sword is all jacked up now

I need not mention the fact that his positioning his wrong to be able to expose that he is brandishing this weapon in the wrong way. It's dangerous! And I probably like yourself didnt just notice that the way he was standing was wrong, but also things like the way he followed through with his swings

If you're going to get a katana, get a good one,Damascus steel only, which is a long and hard processes of bending and layering steel on steel. This makes it razor sharp, and hard and flexible, making it extremely durable. Also only get one that is HANDMADE.THere are some videos of making Damascus katanas, check em out.

ronin? ronin as in saints row ronin? XD yus!
ZzX42 1 year ago
How could it be a destruction test if you don't use a proper technique ?
Let me explain : your test is wrong, because a real user of a Katana will use that a way better than you did, so the sword will almost never be destroyed.
If you want to argue like "yes, but if a beginner used it ?", katana were, and are, not gived to beginners.
Gaasm 1 year ago
@Gaasm ...beginners buy them...wow :/ iq. you dont have it
gibson82650 1 year ago
@gibson82650 Do you even know what is IQ to insult me, or is it just a troll's comment ?
Will you buy it if you were a beginner, man (just in case, i precise : if you were not a collector)? You would be a REAL idiot if you did that.
Let me explain myself : Katana are sharp, they are dangerous, but they do NOT work if you don't know how to use it... They even could be a danger for you... And i think this is the case for most of swords.
If you want to practice, there are Iaito, or Bokuto.
Gaasm 1 year ago
@Gaasm in a irresponsable destruction test like this guy does, did the sword can break easily and the remain fragment can impact in your body? is it a common stuff? so if someone hit a metal objet or a huge wood or three, it would break the Katana and it will hurt you so badly?.
SutoritoFaitaTsuBui 4 days ago
@gibson82650 And if you want to kill anybody, it will be more effective to use a gun, after all, you don't need as much as practice to use it than a sword.
Definitively, those who are buying some sword and are not collector or advance pratiquant are not only idiots, they are insane !
And sorry, if my english is not so good, i'm french.
Gaasm 1 year ago
@Gaasm Lol i just thinkin on buy some katana and use it to cut on my Woods trash or event my long cesped. Too bad idea right? he he.
SutoritoFaitaTsuBui 4 days ago
His form is awful. Surely he has never had proper training. When you swing the sword you never bring your feet forward in the direction of the swing. That is just stupid. Learn how to swing a sword first. It's not just the sword. It is how you handle the sword to get the full potential. Let the weapon be a part of you, let it flow with your body.
D4PuNishEr21 1 year ago
@D4PuNishEr21 oh yeah so he can miss the swing and cut his owm feet or leg, right?
SutoritoFaitaTsuBui 4 days ago
That is absolute shit... 1. please do a vid of someone who knows the way of the sword 2. sharpen it to its full potential before use and finally to show a good cut and effectiveness of the Katana itself use Tatami mats ( or rolled up hay)
Annihilation1919 1 year ago
no offense but you weilding it wrong and within the right hands that katana could slice a gate way from your back yard to your neighboors through your fence

Serkant75 2 years ago
I can do that with my Ka-Bar with one hand. I prefer daggers tac knives and broadswords.
DeltaBravo1216 2 years ago
Your stance is not appropriate and you put all ur weight on the left legs your back should be straight and u need to extend ur arms more and make ur snap more height.
For the cameraman the Yoko should be with ankle balance first and take all.
If you want to make good cutting try Shinkendo ;)
Katsujinken02 2 years ago
Hey batter batter, sw...... Ow my f***ing eye, damn it jeff, I knew I shouldn't have let u use my katana. (hold the katana like a katana , not like a baseball bat, it's a slashing weapon, not a hacking weapon)
yayayurrr 2 years ago 31
It is a DESTRUCTION test. Not a skill test. We are trying to determine how much abuse the sword can take prior to failure. We already know it is not going to fail in a dojo environment. It is the backyard users that abuse them. This is what goes on in backyards, and what we are testing.
Roninkatanas 2 years ago 4
yes that was included in the title, but the test would have been more effictive if the katana was used like a katana, not a bat, the results would be more reliable as aiaido practitioners use their katana like a sword and not a bat, theyre the people who will be buying the swords. by the way it was only constructive critiscism, plz dont get offended.
yayayurrr 1 year ago
@Roninkatanas but if your technique is not right then how is your test valid...i mean your not using precise technique that the sword was designed for so your test would be a fail becasue of to many variables.

@Roninkatanas sweet keep it up can you try one from shirly swords i just bought 2 but they are still being shiped to me they are one ebay for like 50 bucks and there best one they sell is 300 you should post a vid of there cutting power
77zark88 1 year ago
@Roninkatanas agree'd, too bad you cannot be selective about whom you sell a finely crafted blade too... wait.. i think you can, ill google it and post a recomment when i find out.. either way, it may be more trouble than its worth. meh.. nice blade btw, im considering buying one.

@Roninkatanas did u guys end up breaking it?
\
iwnnugget501 9 months ago
@Roninkatanas well if you slash it right it deals muuuuch more dmg .....would go thru that wood like butter....katana if swung right can cut man in HALF!
bubi745 9 months ago
@Roninkatanas Seems to me like your testing a katana's uselessness against anything other than plastic and soft plant life. but I will agree that play -cough, snigger- is a good way to test the failing point of a katana.
lilpwn 7 months ago
@lilpwn They can actually cut through a triple roll tatami with one blow.

@Roninkatanas Nicely made katana. One of the best for under $300.

@Roninkatanas admit it, you THOUGHT you knew how to wield a katana but evidently didnt.
eatlikesnake 6 months ago
@yayayurrr you talk like you know how to swing a katana, shocked that someone like me whos only taken iaido for a month picked up on the fact that he was swinging the same direction as the leg he had in front yet you didn't critic that at all
Plus its a destruction test, hes trying to break it.. kinda
Kurowaltsu2 11 months ago
lol...i can see days of sharpening, cleaning, scratch and ding removal for that sword...never cut wood, unless its bamboo.
