as far as I've heard Baldwin sent Micados to japan pre wwII. and american engineers during the war called their Micados Macarthurs to be patriotic. i dont think its European the whistle sounds more like an american steamer
well actually there are a lot of American steamers with high headlights. I probably should've said "mounted so high". It just looks sorta weird perched up on the feedwater heater. If it was dropped down to just above the number board it would look good as well. Either way she's beautiful :D
IIRC, the first Mikado Japan received was American-made. We began to use the style...I guess you could say they changed the use of our engine type to suit their needs
Wow, a D51 2-8-0 steam locomotive. That's one of my favorite engines!

it is a nice loco, but there headlights are always mounted that way, the headlight way your talking about is with AMERICAN locomotives

in Japanese, mouting headlight on the top of boiler is standard style.
