  • The price is attractive but people need to understand this: cheap price = cheap quality. This concept holds true with this product. Btw...the maker is a con artist.

  • let me fucking buy it, i go to their website and nothing, google them, nothing

  • India proved to the world we are poor nation. Kapil Sibal is very proud of it showing his face to all the media person. Kail Sibal says it is Aaakash. Datawind says it is Ubislate. What is the real name for this tablet. I am confused. I bought a product from Datawind the Ubisurfer a year before. Within 2 months of time, I sent it to the service center two times and finally thew into the dust bin. I will not buy this product if it comes into the market as it is from Datawind.

  • @kfki you stupid brain-dead sheep, he is a Sikh. There are 25 million of them in the world. Not all Turbaned men are Muslim like CNN may have your believed.

  • could anybody please please please tell me where to buy this tablet from ???

    reply would be deeply appreciated.

  • It was a Govt sponsored research. The tablet that was eventually made costed $35 (this was even unveiled by Sibal some time back). Then for mass production bids were invited and eventually Datawind bid at the lowest @ $37.5 per tablet..With replacement warranty it will cost $45.

If Datawind was to do everything, why will it be called 'Made in India', coz Datawind is actually a Canadian firm ? And surely Datawind right from the beginning would have claimed to produce WORLDS CHEAPEST TABLET !

  • Whoh, did he just lie about that?

I think it was a team from IIT who had designed the tablet.I am not really very sure but this is how it went. The Govt of India had to procure some tablets under its policy for secondary education (inclusive growth as they call it). It was perhaps costing them some $100 per piece, if they were to procure it from the US. It was becoming a lot difficult to subsidize it to $40 per piece. So, a team from IIT (Delhi or Kanpur I think) was pulled up to get it made...

  • Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli was talking about the inter-state taxes being a factor in the production costs (maybe a maximum of 100 odd rupees), but can the government not take steps to cut off these taxes for atleast the quantity released for the students.......

  • Big companies actually makes a cheap tablet... it's the name that makes it expensive.

  • Will it Blend? That is the question.

  • @ashwinm4u , are you sure? I think it would be called as "akash"

  • really informative video

  • صفعه لدولتنا الحبيبة

  • proud to be a cheap indian! ;)

  • Can we get it with a Groupon?

  • The subsidy makes the device quite good a buy for students. I wantd to buy kindle, now i will be on "Akash". The whole work by datawind is commendable. Ofcourse govt asked for it. But it was them who made it possible for India. Nonetheless, Indian were involved in the whole thing. Thank for the effort. I hope 3G is built-into it in first few lots too. GPRS is a no-no now. Talking about 1080p videos streaming from youtube. You can't even stream normal utube videos proprly on GPRS.

    Way to go. ;-)

  • I hope they sell it on Amazon.

  • It is cheap. It is useful for Indians. Who cares if it is made in India or not? If it was $10 cheaper when made in China, then make it in China.

    Moronic misplaced patriotism.

I don't know if this will be available to Canadians, but this tablet will surely bring down the costs of the other competitors such as Apple IPad. :D
