  • I'm a kid of the download mp3 era. Just bought some nice records in a local shop. Fucking sweet! Beats cd's and digital anytime anywhere. Another vinyl junkie is made :D

  • wasn't the entire documentary up on youtube a while ago?

  • yeah, it kind of pissed me off when i seen that ugly-ass loser on screen at 1:22, saying he had all those vinyls.

  • I hate people you nerd over shit. I collect vinyls.....and i actually listen to them. I only buy records that i really like...not for the sake of buying them.

  • Vinyl is awesome. This movie is not.

  • @Brian7490 what do u expect there canadian, lol

  • Interesting film. However, not sure I appreciate the angle and the way collectors are portrayed here; too focused on them being OCD like. Reminds me of one of those stupid hoader shows on tv too. That's largely not who collectors are, so why focus on the extreme outliers?

  • @crumbsofcomfort

I agree and I think maybe the portrayal of record collectors in this film over 10 years ago is much different than the record collectors of recent years. Record collecting is one of the most social hobbies in the states today. We love hanging out at the stores which is why we have stores like Amoeba in CA where collectors & music fans alike can unite to watch live performances, meet celebrities, make new friends etc.

  • there are also plenty of stores on the east coast for the hardcore collectors like Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh where some people go every single day and just hang out, talk to other people about music and buy records. I can also say that most other collectors that i know, including myself are NOT depressed and don't believe record collecting to be some negative vice that Zweig portrays in the film. Sorry mainstream society, we may be nerds but our lives our awesome and we DO get pussy! :)

  • @crumbsofcomfort I agree. Not that it's not interesting and pertinent to examine people who take their collecting to extremes, but I think the movie would have been better served to examine the vinyl collecting community in a broader sense. That said, I wouldn't be that interested in seeing casual collectors... those who have an intense passion, whether they manage their obsession or take it beyond social norms, are much more interesting.

  • And I thought I was the only one!!

  • what fascinates me about vinyl is that regardless of who the artist is.... if the vynil comes in you hand, it commands attention and you will likely listen to the whole album at least once, giving it a complete chance, to catch on to you.

I don't see that happening with mp3 and CDs...

  • becausesoundmatters [dot ] com

freakin' great for a vinyl head like me.

  • Fine subject matter drastically mishandled by a director obsessively trying to fit all the individuals in the film into his very personal concept of "collectors are all one dimensional losers whose personal lives suffer as a consequence".

Unfortunately the only character amongst these experts in their chosen field (most of whom have quite full and interesting lives and yes some of whom are no longer w/ us ie.- forever enshrined in this conceit) is the director himself-

    Dr. Bringdown Zweig.

  • Dear Authors,

Like some great classic, ie Citizen Cane, your film will be included in world cultural heritage in some 20-30 years to come. In the meanwhile - thanks for Curtis Mayfield, 13 Floor Elevators and other suggestions. I am not a nut, just 1.000 LPs and Cds, as a job in UK only pays 5 pounds/hour net (my business ideas flopped, I spent all profit on my hobby, ha ha. Still, I love your series. Hoping for more. Tom

  • somebody post his "LOVEABLE" it's excellent

  • I'm hosting the documentary right now on my youtube.

  • I'm wondering something. Are there shelves especially made to hold all those albums (like the one at the end)? unless it's part of the wall.

  • Obsessive Compulsive disorder -- almost every single one of them. hahahah

*raises hand* yeah, me too, a little bit.

  • GOD i love this. eff.

  • I saw this on TV years ago and it's scarily relevant. Alan Zweig's website says that there is a DVD issue pending.

Anyone fancy doing me a copy of theirs in the meantime?

  • what's the title of this film?

  • ALL THESE GUYS ARE FREAKS!!! ...and I would love to be buddies with each one of them!!! lol Awesome collections! Just on pure numbers alone.

  • vinyl

  • The guy who made this should've also highlighted the Hip hop producers, who devote much of their lives to digging for old records, from which they get many of the samples, which they use to construct their own music.

  • I tries Lookin for it on dvd but i dont think there is any available you might hav to check ebay or sumthin. I got mine off a torrent site.

  • 2:48 Where can I find one of those cleaners? Also, can you buy the small cleaner brush that came on older players and will it just attach to any needle arm?

    -future crazy record collector

  • you can get them from Bags Unlimited. There are two types, motorized or manual.

  • i have this film and its a great flick if u collect or not.

  • I've been trying to track down this film for the last 3-4 yrs.....Can You tell me where I might be able to locate one ?...Thanks

  • You could try gogoling, Alan Zwieg the filmaker

  • Thanks maydom04.....I was able to find it on a torrent site......The documentary was more about obsessive compulsive collecting than music itself, but interesting none the less.

  • I found it as well but there aren't any seeders. Is there any way you could upload this to a site?
