@NickErrero 34k unbuffed and defense capped will be necessary simply because if you lose a healer or you get hit by ony while healers r feared you'll need a bit of hp. Having min defense means no crits, so your heals are okay

@nexus1g I think they're explaining the mechanics raid bosses and a few advices to counter them, as for dps its very debatable.. You should just go with your instinct if you are leader, have some suggestions from people that can think and go with a complex buffed group that are skilled as well.

The most you need to worry about raids is not just having geared people, its having skilled people. Members that can follow a boss's mechanic tend to rape them with far less raid wipes.

Quick question from a new noob tank, should the main tank be helping the off tank with the whelps until the big add comes or leave it all to the off tank? In the video it appears he left the off tank to do it himself but I'm sure the tanks here are overgeared for this.

As the whelps spawn bigger mobs will also come. Which will be tanked by the main tank. So main tank and Offtank will both be busy tanking different kind of mobs.

The whelps spawn from both sides of the room in the beginning. What my guild did was have the off tank take one side and the main tank take the other. once the big adds start spawning one tank will take them and the other will tank all of the whelps

Considering the little amount of DPS a tank does, it's not worth the risk of pulling the whelps from the OT and then having to deal with big adds as well. Remember, the big adds come about 15 seconds after the whelps. Also, the whelps don't hit very hard, so one tank should be able to handle it. Maybe a quick AoE that will mitigate damage, but don't take any risks.

That's the OT's job. MT takes the big adds, due to the fact that agro from phase 1 carries into phase 3, and it's easy to keep agro on Ony and one big add rather than a dozen drakes. Also, you can't just stand in front of the whelp spawn areas. They come from two sides, so you have to stand in the middle, and sort of run around picking them up.

The MT runs to where the raid entered the room (Ony will run to the same place when she takes off) and tank the large adds that enter. A DPS will have to be with him, as every 90 seconds another add spawns, regardless as to weather or not the first add is down.

Totally wrong. For one thing, the MT doesn't take the whelps. The OT does. Otherwise you'll have to deal the whelps AND Ony in phase 3. And the OT that rounds them up should be a Pali or DK (they have more AoE agro).

The MT, the one who is focused on keeping agro on Ony, does not take the whelps in phase 2.

When phase 2 ends, the whelps don't just magically disappear. They will still be on the tank. This is why the MT does not tank them, but tanks the big adds instead.

A warrior is a bad choice for the whelps. DK's and palis have more AoE agro abilities.

I guess when heroic deadmines comes out, they be explaining tactics for that too, I could imagine it. 'Mr.Smite has 2 adds that are very dangerous and needs to be burned down as soon as possible, he also does stuns at certain hp percentages.'

I always love the movies you guys put up to prepare for raids and other information, but I do note that there's some information that you could've added to the guide.

From experience I find it's easy if you do have 2 tanks to both pick up the first whelpspawns and merge them in the middle for everyone to burn them down fast. After that ranged can go burn Onyxia from the skies. (cont)

The elite guards should get their attention, too. They have two abilities to look out for: Burning Weapon and Blast Nova.

Those who can should concentrate on disarming/disabling them as soon as they finish their cast. It will reduce their damage output a lot.

The Blast Nova is an AoE that can not be interrupted (not with kick at least) and should be ran away from if at all possible. Specially if you have just been hit by Onyxias fireball, it will kill you.
