  • Michael Anthony is the most underrated bass player in the business. The guy is dynamic, has chops, stage presence, and can sing his ass off. If you don't believe me, just YouTube some of the older stuff, especially Unchained from 81.

  • I saw them on every tour when Dave was singing with them in the late 70's and early 80's. Every show was great, I am sure this great time was fueled with herb and alcohol. They sound the same they just need mike back.

  • Michael Anthony can not be replaced!

  • In all fairness to Wolfgang, they needed Michael Anthony for the bass and backing vocals.

  • Wolfgang killed the whole song!

  • Dave is so fucking washed up. Damn, he basically talked/rapped most of the vocals for this song! That really is a call for Dave to give us a fucking break!

  • wolfgang is a good player he just doesnt have the same presence as mike and he sure doesnt have the voice

  • i guess Eddie got his hip done, and Dave was able to allow it to happen 1st. Wolfgang (Wolfie) on the Bass.

  • I'm sorry but Eddie looks like hell here.Way too thin.

  • I was there, I mean the fucking best show of my life

  • I was there...and it was un fuckin' believable ! Awesome !

  • just googled ted templeman. he is in fact the voice that says c'mon dave, give me a break!

  • bruce fairbairn either produced or engineered balance. don't remember which. i read an interview with the 2nd engineer about the tension between eddie and sammy during the recording.

  • ted templeman produced and donn landee engineered from vh through 1984. the f.u.c.k. album was prod by templeman also and andy johns engineered it.

  • @nissansentraglx Donn Landee was also there for 5150

  • Wolfgang has no stage presence. That's what really bummed me out when I saw them.

  • @2hip4g no stage presence? of course not! Wolfie was 17 yrs old. this was his first experience playing on a major tour. he was probably nervous as shit! having his father and uncle there is the only thing that helped at the time. i'm sure his main objective was to play good and not mess anything up.

  • who s that boy ?? and waht happend to the old base player ?

  • I saw the Halen in 1979 after they first came out-no one know who they were yet. It was an awesome show at the Paladium in NYC. Still have the Jersey from that show.

I think it was their first world tour.

  • Eddie sure loves the cancer sticks......

  • After you beat throat cancer, Smoke up Eddie, fuckin moron

  • IN THE ORIGINAL SONG who says "come on dave gimme a break..."????? PLEASE HELP

  • @pjmurray71 i thought andy johns produced that record

  • @vanhalenkid Yep...with Ted Templeman, and VH co-producing. ;)

  • @AuburnGuy1994

    its ted templemen

  • @AuburnGuy1994 when they first recorded it, dave ran into the recording studio room and said it to ted templeman, but when they recorded it dave did both parts

  • DLR Can Still Fuckin Wreck It

  • Just to let u guys no.those aren't Wolfie's backup vocals.there using protools to mix Michael Anthony's in =P I know a tech who went on tour with them he told me.

  • Eddie is king...but those fucking cigarettes are gonna kill him.....man i wish he'd quit allready!!! Van Halen Rules the Rock Arena! P.S. Bring back Mikey!!!

  • @hockeydudeluv He actually smokes a LOT less than he did in the 80s

  • that was a great show!

  • I saw many unchained cover and on the solo they play it with tapping. but on 1:42, Ed didnt use tapping. so actually, should there be any tapping?

  • on the album hes actualy tapping but this was alttle improvised

  • I miss high kicks and MA. Then this would be perfect B-)

  • y'know, Wolfgang isn't a bad player, he just doesn't have much stage presence. He either strolls around stage or just stands static. If he got more into it and looked like he was having fun I think everyone would love this kid.

  • You're absolutely right! I was starting to miss Michael A., but that was because he was more exciting. If he opened up, he'd be great like you said.

  • Looks like Wolfie needed a little cueing, and that the other guys found that fact hilarious. Ahh it's the little moments. This sounds like a good night for them.

  • Henry Rollins said once,"If you ever need to lift something heavy, listen to a Van Halen album"...I agee !

  • Roth looks like a gay matador.

  • man that show was fucking amazing...

great to be able to watch it again

  • Michael Anthony's backing vocals are sorely missed.

  • For you fools who think Wolfie sux, go check out Unchained 84 in Montreal or any show and tell me the MA sounds better. That was them at their peak, they sound better than ever.

  • Forget Montreal 84... they were already cartoons of themselves and Dave had one foot out the door. Oakland 81's Unchained is the standard which by all other live performances of the tune must be judged

  • eddie got to be the coolest dad in the world...ty 4video

  • shit when i was 16 i beg my mom to go see a concert vh, badco, boston ext look at wolf 16already playing with a ledgendary band :-)

  • lol, i am in there

  • ok you guys are dam high and your give in me the worst dam chat on this vid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am sorry to say this, but the band impersonating Van Halen SUCKS! They for the most part are too old, too out of shape and just really not into it anymore. See if they even do a recording after this! I sort of remember Eddie Van Halen saying in the past that They would not tour w/o a recording to support. WHAT A LIAR!

  • i don't know what you mean they aren't that into it anymore... cause they sure put on one hell of a live performance that night...

  • i was at this show...great

  • Eddie!!!!!

For gods sake, bring back Michael Anthony.

Wolfie has to be the most lifeless bass player ever

  • VH was never about Michael Anthony or even Alex. It was always Dave & Eddie. Sure I wish MA was up there with them, but it really doesn't change the awesomeness that Dave & Ed are back together.

  • best frontman ever, period.

  • Are they gonna produce a Blu-ray DVD out of this tour? I'm tired of watching cell phone videos with crappy sound. I wanna watch a Halen concert the way it should be watched -- on my 65" high-def. plasma with surround sound!

  • no one cares about what fucking TV you have

  • Cool! You have a 65"? What brand? Is it any good? Would you recommend I buy it?

  • No no and no.. the way you should watch =VH= is front row with DLR in the 80s. Not on some flatscreen.. its not the same

  • The quality is sooooo horrible:( I can't even find one Van Halen video live that has good quality

  • oh my god saw them last nite 4/24/08 and they were AMAZING!!! david lee roth is by far the best front man of all time and eddie sounded GREAT hit note for note i hope they come back in two years or so.

  • Sounds like they might be using a backing track of Michael Anthony's vocals for the chorus.

  • the greatest band in all lands. i would see this band any day over led zepplin.

  • roth's rage has been gone for a long time now he, the way he sings now is like talkling though the song it's not singing at all.

  • At least they're not being lame and doing the song 5 steps down.

  • In a key 5 steps down, that is.

  • dude this band rules, I saw then in michigan man, best concert ive ever seen, rock on !

  • Eddie may be in his 50's but he looks live man. I may not have been old enough to remember his 80's concerts but I know what sounds good to me. It looks like he's been energized by the new blood of his son.

  • future of van halen, thy name is Wolfgang! this kid rocks! saw em in Glendale 11/23/07 unbelievable!

  • Who is Gonna get that Wolfgang

  • Great show!!! I was there!!! Happy Birthday to DLR and ME!!!! NIGHT TO REMEMBER!!!

  • Words can't describe!! I saw them in Philly and I'm going to see them in March in Atlantic City. Well worth the 2 hour drive one way. Just honored to be in their presence! Only Led Zep stands a shot at topping this band.

  • What a shame we had to wait 23 years for this. VH with Dave and the Van Halens together is as good as it gets.

  • No doubt about that!! I wish they would have reformed back in '96!!

  • hell yes we would have heard Me Qise Magic and Cant get this stuff no more live!!

  • That is so cool that Eddie's son is playing with them. Does he realize how awesome that is? One of the greatest bands ever! VH rules!

  • Just like to say thanks to who ever post this video!!! I was there it was my first van halen concert. If you have any copys i would love to buy one!!!!

  • Still Kickin ASS In America!!!

  • does eddie still smoke?

  • yes, sadly!

  • eddie looks horribe but he can still make that guitar sing! David Lee Roth is still pretty damn sexy!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Im going to see them in less than a week! I cant wait. Dave has still got it in terms of the screams. Wolfie is amazing. He has the harmonies down perfectly and the new bass lines that HE WROTE are really good. LONG LIVE VH!! And to all you Wolfie haters out there, let this video be a lesson to you.

  • The kid sounds fine. And it does bring a new edge to the classic Van Halen line-up. I just wish that they (the Van Halen Bros.) had handled the Michael Anthony situation with more consideration. He was their bandmate and friend for so many years. If Eddie wanted Wolfie in the band, he could have treated Mike with more respect.

  • You could also say Mike didn't show any respects to VH by doing that "Other Half" BS tour with Sammy. If that's not tarnishing the VH brand than I don't know what is. People should be verting their anger towards Sammy who brainwashed Mikey away from VH. He's the REAL ARSHOLE who started Mikey's exit from VH!!

  • dude shut the fuck up your full of shit eddie van halen tried to kick mike out on the vh3 tour.what is mike to do? just sit around waiting for eddie to want to play. only thing they had to do was call him and he would be standing on the left side of the stage. they kicked mike out!!!

  • I agree, i started playin guitar cus of eddie, the fact that he was a regular guy, and he had tonnes of fun on stage, then he went all hollywood, mad anthony is the only normal guy in that band and they didnt "invite" him back, and they replaced him with a kid!!!!!???? thats bullshit

  • too bad Michael isn't with them, otherwise that would be THE Van Halen reunion... nevertheless, they still kick serious ass!

  • VH said at their press conf that it is "Not A Reunion, It's a New Band, A Whole New Begining" As soon as people understand that the better they will be. The exciting thing is a new VH album is in the works. They are ploting and planning people!!!

  • "That's the one thing that's really kind of sad," Anthony continued. "It would have been cool to get onstage with Dave again, but I'm not going to whine about it, because that's the way it is. " - Mike Anthony 9-04-2007

PS. Hagar the horrible always sounded constipated. Nuff Said. ROTH-ON!

  • It's definately a shame Michael wasn't included!!

  • Nobody kicks ass like Van Halen. I thank the Gods every day that Dave's back with them, my life is now complete. They're genius to make this comeback, we were all waiting, the audience could not have been more receptive. I saw them on the 5th at Mohegan Sun in CT, they were incredible... and gives Wolfie a chance to shine. Talented family! This song kicks butt, thanks for posting it!!!

  • Thanks cmw929638!

  • All I have to say to all you stupid naysayers is: eat some fuckin' humble pie, you posers!

  • Whether you're a Van-Hagar fan or a Van Halen fan you have to admit, this is really fun to see. Dave back with the band and Eddie playing music with his 16 year old son! I mean I love both Sammy and Dave, (well, I'm kinda bias towards Dave) they've both given us great Van Halen songs, but this is something we NEVER thought would EVER happen, so let's just enjoy it, while it last, lol

  • poor Michael Anthony. He's gettin' shown up by a 16 year old.

  • I was there and the show was awesome! Better than I expected.

  • wolfies bass was a tad too loud but he is gonna work out just fine. im thinking that #4 on the black wolfgang is name of the next record?

  • I actually like the vibe Woflie brings. It's a somewhat different VH, but looks like it's really working out. Dave is startin to sound better as the tour dates go on, and Eddie is just what I'd hoped for. He's looking much beter than last year. I figure if Michael had to go, Wolfie is about the only one who would seem right for the band. Rock on guys.

  • Wolfie rocked! those who don't think so weren't at this show. That kid has got it!

  • the real halen !!!

  • watch?v=8GR09YjoC7c 25 years ago daves b-day! largo '82. wish i was there!

  • wow

  • wolfies backups sound better every show

  • 10/10 is my b-day too, would've loved to have been at Dave's birthday gig!
