@zollen123 He's not referring to a Christian-Judea God when he speaks of "the mind of god", Einstein explained many years ago that people still misinterpret his quote, that the beauty and harmony of nature to him is god. Not a god you can pray to, not a god that exists in heaven.
Einstein's quote is referring to god in the way Spinoza believed.
@bigthink Well, if you continue your metaphor relating music and the universe. 7,2,3 that is the number of dimensions 7 higher dimensions 2 time dimensions and 3 spacial dimensions i got this number from my dreams so im listening to my dreams ...
And this, ladies and gentleman, is why I believe most people have so much trouble with physics in school. There are VERY few professors in the world, at least in my experience, that can articulate everything they're trying to explain in these sort of simple terms. Instead, people get hit with the full force of all the mathematical and physics-related language that these things revolve around, and since they themselves aren't physicists, it goes in one ear and right out the other for most.
no one here knows ANYthing about string theory (including myself) yet speak with such authority.
FYI physicist did not come up with vibrating strings by sitting around debating the "philosophical" meaning of life or its acoustic harmony.
It's MATH, really, really complicated math that came about after breaking their hands and crunching their brains writing equations yet a COMPLETE know nothing comes along and says "you know what, what if it is knots instead of strings"...humans...
Funny how people complain when they can’t understand what the scientist is trying to explain when he/she is using complex high level scientific language….But finally we have Dr. Kaku trying to simplify everything by explaining everything with simple/easy to understand analogies/examples/references…and now there are idiots who make idiotic remarks how how they can’t take Dr. Kaku seriously because his references are based on such trivial knowledge….humans……
we're limited by our own understanding at any point in time, imagine how much more we'll know 10 years from now. I do however find this theory very interesting.
I don't see the universe as being made up of vibrating strings I see it as knotted with zero knots and with the energy system seeming like it's trying to knot. To me It's like some big inter-dimensional warp and I should get the proof of large extra dimensional space when man can really look at the event horizon at the centre of the galaxy. I Have the book Introduction to Super Strings and M-theory hard reading that it's well explained I just find it a difficult topic.
So our universe has 11 dimensions (and possibly an extra time dimension?), but if we could hop to different universes the amount of dimensions and the laws of nature could be different.
@jfw248 Beware that, in science, a theory is not something which hasn't been demonstrated (that's the use of the word we normal people use), but something that explains universe phenomena. For instance, Relativity is a theory, but it works and it has been proven to, the same with Newton's Gravitation (incorrect but accurate enough so it's still in use) or Darwin's theory of Evolution. Sure, M-Theory hasn't been demonstrated, but that doesn't make it a Theory, but an unproved Theory.
@jfw248 "A brief history in time" was written in the late 90's and theoretical physism has evolved very far since then. Also it actually says in the book that these are just theories and are very likely to be disproven or replaced in near future.
Wouldn't it be awesome if there were an infinite number of dimensions, with infinite time lines? 11 just doesn't quite cut it for me.... Seems small and all..
according to einstein's theory of relativity, doesnt everyone have a personal clock to which they influence? time for me differs from yours as everyone, throughout their life, has moved through time and space in an individualistic pattern, and the more you move through one, the less you move through the other.
you should study the codes that are sent on the strings of the cosmic violin. you will find that these codes determine all the changes in the course of evolution.
I'm an uneducated youtuber with no job and I'm going to criticize this theory because based on the 4 minutes and 7 seconds of this brief video, I'm now an expert in the string theory and can easily prove this guy wrong.
@VexusFlytrap I hope you understand how arrogant that comment sounds, educated or not people are entitled to there theories that is the only way we progress by everyone not thinking the same way. I personally believe string theory but I am not gonna call someone stupid for criticizing it or criticizing Michio Kaku educated or not.
@Bundyrumowns Relax, he is making fun of all these people who are commenting on the video and acting like they know more that Michio Kaku... which is absurd.
@Bundyrumowns Like sirius804 said. I also find it perfectly understandable that there are many other sense-making theories around and that some people don't think that the string theory is true.
@MyStuff774 Technically, you can say Electromagnetism is easy and Mechanics is easy because the terms are relatively simple differential equations, but when you actually see the interconnected workings of different components in circuits and all the subtleties, it can actually get quite complicated. Quantum Mechanics is still physics, and physics is essentially synonymous with multivariable calculus.
The idea of vibrating strings so reminds me of the Music of the Spheres. Maybe the ancient and medieval philosophers really were onto something big! Or maybe the description of strings as making music was borrowed from the Music of the Spheres. In either case, very cool.
Look up astral projection. Give it serious attempts. You'll learn. I understand one may look at this and think it stupid, unproven, yuppie bullshit. It very well could be, maybe you should find out?
I'll clarify. Sorry, I see now where things got confusing.
lol but yeah this world is crazy...haha the world where all it's inhabitants were confused about "nothing". The concept of nothing being zero. They say "How can you make something from nothing?" It's funny, right?
@SixFootTallMidget Well first of all you have the definition of trolling wrong lol. I'm not trolling you. Secondly...why are you trying to explain to me what zero is? What does that have to do with anything haha? I think I understand. You surely suffer from faulty logic and it's ok, man. Just don't be so rude.
Wow. The co-founder of Field String Theory. This is so incredible. It's so great to have access to brilliant minds like his these days. Thank you Michio.
@SixFootTallMidget What kind of crazy shit is that? lol but yeah this world is crazy...haha the world where all it's inhabitants were confused about nothing. The concept of nothing being zero. How can you make something from nothing? It's funny, right?
@SixFootTallMidget Why are you so intolerant? How can you not realize that what you are saying about his theories is the same alot of Christians say about science? I thought the goal was to learn? Unless you believe it's impossible to learn something, then I don't understand the intolerance...cause even if he is wrong, who's to say you won't learn something new and inspire your own theories? I mean you start a lil comment skirmish, sprinkle subtle insults and then leave with intolerance?
@peepo9000 I'm glad someone pointed that out, we're trying to figure these things out together, but eventually, some ideas are going to have to be removed or rethought. That's just the way it is, we can't all be right.
@senorcartgadge Thanks, that's what I was trying to say. I'm glad someone agrees...and, as far as the baby comment below, we all know who's the grown baby here lol. At least he is acting like his username. Thats enough of that, though.
Just somethin' to spook people with, I guess. Argh the demon is the ruler of this world and was a beautiful musician and now our modern great thinkers are discussing how this world is basically one big Beethoven masterpiece run kiddies and listen to the drums pound as your feet hit the ground. You can't run. You can't hide. Satan is everywhere lol im crazy
I'm not Christian but I get a kick just out of thinking about this. The bible talks about Satan being a cherub, the lead of heaven's choir, and being built with "taberats and pipes" and is the ruler of this world...well I just read newagecozaki and sixfoottallmidgets last three comments and realized this might have already been brought up but still when Kaku talks about us being made of melodies and stuff, it's cool to think about, isn't it? I think so anyways...
@SixFootTallMidget dude, what exactly has u so upset? You can invest in any belief system u want. I am just telling you Pr. Kaku's theories will not unify your universe and give u the enlightenment u long for. It won't happen. The only way to truth is to recognise that you are living in a paradox. Everyone will also see that physics cannot unify the moral truths on who they are. Dont message me if u're not gonna be polite. And by the way Pr Kaku and myself are pretty close friends.
@newagecozaki You are operating off a lot of assumptions..number one being that there are moral truths to begin with. Science has done more to reveal the truths about the natural world than any religion or new age spiritual bull crap has ever done. I'd argue that to truly know ourselves and where we came from we should rely on science and physics, because the more they discover about the universe and our world the more we learn about ourselves and what it means to be human.
@SixFootTallMidget I could tell I really made an impression on you that you took the time to comment. I will excuse your immaturity and bad mannerisms, but I am glad you at least look up to someone as eminent as Pr. Kaku as role model. I will not be discussing my existential theories with you, so you can put that aside for now and grapple with Kaku's madness, and may the Good Lord help you.
@newagecozaki But I don't think Michio Kaku is mad at all. I like him because he breaks things down and brings metaphors and similies...that's just the kind of guy I am. I like that kind of stuff and without that, I don't think I would be able to understand anything he is talking about to be honest.
The Rascal Flatts song "Why" relates to this. It's about a man who committed suicide One line is "why did you step of the stage in the middle of your song?" Music means so much to us for a reason. This stuff does not surprise me...
@k0smon "Higher frequency of reality"? That doesn't even mean anything - complete woo-woo nonsense. Tell me how one would go about detecting this supposed higher frequency of reality to show that spirit(uality) really exists.
@k0smon "Mediums do it all the time" is simply an unsupported assertion which doesn't answer my question and begs the further question "Can you you should they are really doing so?". As for EVP - it's all audio pareidolia with priming.
@CoryAlbrecht ::: Unsupported? It certainly is not supported by James Randi and M Schermer. However, those who are familiar with the phenomena do support it. If you had experienced it, you would support it. Your further question was garbled. How much experience have you had directly with EVPs? You sound like an expert. Are you?
@dudepal187 ::: Good list. A lot of EVPs are indistinct. But some are of very high quality. Which one? They don't all fit under just one explanation. I would agree that EVPs are still experimental. Maybe someday we will have an actual telephone between worlds. That has been predicted by those on the other side.
@k0smon I think you misunderstand. No matter what EVP you are listening too, explanations similar to the first two I listed require far too many assumptions to even be plausible. I was trying to give an example of how we can use Occam's Razor to demonstrate why EVPs are generally unscientific.
@k0smon Stringing words together may be phonetically pleasing, but it is semantically inept. Let's keep nonsensical phrases like 'higher frequency of reality' for non-science videos, please.
@MrPianoJames :::Are you sure about that? Do you accept the 11 dimensions? Why would you? You cannot detect them with your 5 senses. To most people, 11 dimensions of the universe sounds like nonsense. Today's science fiction is tomorrow's science.
Kaku is speaking of vibrating stings. Vibrations have frequency. Do they all vibrate at one frequency, or are there different frequencies? Expand your mind; hopefully, your mouth will follow with your mind.
@k0smon We cannot detect 11 dimensions with our 5 senses alone, but we can definitely detect them with aid of modern technology. I agree that most people would find this ridiculous, but I'm afraid most people are not qualified to comment.
Vibrations do indeed have a frequency, and there are indeed different frequencies as you say. I do not see how this aids your argument. Reality does not have a frequency in the same way that socks do not have shopping - the statement is nonsense.
@MrPianoJames :::Depends on how you define 'reality'. Kaku defines it as 'cosmic music resonating thru 11 dimensions. What is your definition? Reality means existence. Can we really detect the 11 dimensions by technology? Or is it still theoretical and indicated by mathematical deduction?
@k0smon We can detect the 1 dimensions, yes. Check out some of the great vids on here to find out more.
I mean no harm, all I wish to portray is that saying things like 'higher frequency of reality' (which doesn't make any sense) on science videos, with people who like science, and are concerned with science, is asking for trouble. Scientists are unbiased people who deal with evidence. Your comments would probably receive a better reception with a group of people less concerned with facts.
Pr. Kaku seems to be of the opinion that mathematics has a morality of its own making; and purpose is nothing but the chemicals in our brain giving us a high. My greatest crisis is what will it take to educate people out of this satanic thing!
@newagecozaki Morality is a human invention. There is no absolute moral truth. Math is the closest you will ever come to a language of the natural world.
What does string theory have to say about the notion that 1 is the limit as x approaches infinity of the equation x/pi. sin (pi/x) in radians? Not advertising myself as mathematical but it seems to me we are living in this paradoxical state in which a value deriving a certainty of existence means it must have this dialectic unity with a reciprocal state which manifest as contradiction in the realm of fundamentalism. Just think about it and then comment!
ok...let's put all the wise cracking comments aside for now and respect the professor. Pr. Kaku, why do u mention singularities in the same sentence with anomalies as if they were a bad thing? Now, is any part of your cosmic consciousness aware of a so-called "Law of Universal Paradox"? A law which suggests that for a va;ue deriving an existential certainty, being made integrate with its reciprocal state is a *fundamental pre-requisite? (will continue in a next comment box)
@RoyCostasimgeek Michio Kaku does not appreciate some basic mathematical philosophy. Zero, one and infinity are a triune state, the definitions of which are connected by a law of universal paradox, where zero and infinity are existential states which are potentially for certain, and 1 being the certainty on either of them, representating a derivative on a fundamental contradiction, by the law of universal paradox via which zero and infinity are in a necessary dialectic unity. Think about it!
@newagecozaki I don't understand what you are saying...I'm just a goofy dude but I'm interested in learning what you are saying. Look at my comment, it's not smart or anything, but it's fun to think about I guess. I understand all the words but when theyre all built around a concept I don't understand my brain just...I don't really know lol. I don't understand the words at all, then. Are they ambigous? What they represent and whatnot...So could you break it down cause I'm from tha' souf.
how enlightening, I believe I have experienced double time universe way back when I was a child. It was during my first week of school. Then I fainted. I woke up... then as time went by I tried to search what really happened to me.
That's just great. The fact that so far we know there are only 11 dimensions. That's like a one giant step forward and now you can look at anything with that knowledge and not feel so uncertain about what exactly you're looking at.
The question is: how do you generate things from nothing?
The answer is not "God" (that's a stupid answer), it's "through the manipulation of local sets of variables".
Reality IS a matrix. Of infinite dimensions (immagine an array of infinite length with every single element of it being identical to said infinite array).
String theory, based on what I read, is really a branch of mathematics, not a branch of physics. So how do I learn this?? And I guess I could never understand strings because I'm way too lazy to feel that inspiration to learn these almighty theories of nature.
I get his point on why M theory is a more sound theory than F theory because I agree with his logical points and I'm also a big believer in Occum's Razor. But why 11 dimensions? 11 is a prime number. A dead end number and impossible number to multiply to. How does a theory attempting to define the universe end on a prime numbered dimension? I believe 3 is the most stable number in the universe so the "answer" to the universe should be a multiple of 3...or anything not prime for that matter.
Is it at all possible that this "math" that can only sustain these eleven dimensions because of its limitations of representing such a theory? While human mathematics has developed into something VERY very intricate, can we really say that "math" as a "language" might not be able to interpret beyond eleven dimensions?
@Blakout1313 I think you are asking a question that isn't there. From watching the video I don't think he means that the language of math points it there, rather the logic points it to 11 dimensions since everything fits then.
Think of it as a system where you have individual operators that has to be connected. For one system to work it needs at least 11 operators. If you however add more operators, some operators would get into conflict for handling the same thing.
Talk about a sales pitch on eleven dimensions. I would like more of a definition of this word "String" as this term is used in String Theory. Maybe then I will understand this theory in more depth. Is this string representing a magnetism of small particles that maintain a magnetic link or what?
These scientists, as brilliant as they are, have got to stop using the word "god" when talking about scientific discoveries. Religious faithheads and spiritualists aren't smart enough to figure out that when Einstein said "the mind of god", he meant the laws of physics we still don't understand.
What made those Harvard scientists find out that the 12th dimension has 2 times? How do you calculate it?

FYI physicist did not come up with vibrating strings by sitting around debating the "philosophical" meaning of life or its acoustic harmony.
It's MATH, really, really complicated math that came about after breaking their hands and crunching their brains writing equations yet a COMPLETE know nothing comes along and says "you know what, what if it is knots instead of strings"...humans...

It's a THEORY and only one of many. Not even close to being proved. Read Steven Hawking. A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME
jfw248 1 month ago
@jfw248 Beware that, in science, a theory is not something which hasn't been demonstrated (that's the use of the word we normal people use), but something that explains universe phenomena. For instance, Relativity is a theory, but it works and it has been proven to, the same with Newton's Gravitation (incorrect but accurate enough so it's still in use) or Darwin's theory of Evolution. Sure, M-Theory hasn't been demonstrated, but that doesn't make it a Theory, but an unproved Theory.
IvanJDSTRock 1 month ago
@jfw248 "A brief history in time" was written in the late 90's and theoretical physism has evolved very far since then. Also it actually says in the book that these are just theories and are very likely to be disproven or replaced in near future.

And by the way Pr Kaku and myself are pretty close friends.
newagecozaki 3 months ago
@newagecozaki You are operating off a lot of assumptions..number one being that there are moral truths to begin with. Science has done more to reveal the truths about the natural world than any religion or new age spiritual bull crap has ever done. I'd argue that to truly know ourselves and where we came from we should rely on science and physics, because the more they discover about the universe and our world the more we learn about ourselves and what it means to be human.

CoryAlbrecht 3 months ago
@CoryAlbrecht ::: What do you have against spiritual? It is just a higher frequency of reality.
k0smon 3 months ago
@k0smon "Higher frequency of reality"? That doesn't even mean anything - complete woo-woo nonsense. Tell me how one would go about detecting this supposed higher frequency of reality to show that spirit(uality) really exists.
CoryAlbrecht 2 months ago
@CoryAlbrecht ::: Mediums do it all the time. Also attempts are made with EVPs with varying results. And a woo-woo to yoo-too.
k0smon 2 months ago
@k0smon "Mediums do it all the time" is simply an unsupported assertion which doesn't answer my question and begs the further question "Can you you should they are really doing so?". As for EVP - it's all audio pareidolia with priming.
CoryAlbrecht 2 months ago
@CoryAlbrecht ::: Unsupported? It certainly is not supported by James Randi and M Schermer. However, those who are familiar with the phenomena do support it. If you had experienced it, you would support it. Your further question was garbled. How much experience have you had directly with EVPs? You sound like an expert. Are you?
k0smon 2 months ago
@k0smon Possible explanations for an EVP:
Ghosts
Higher Dimensions
Random noises that the brain associates with desired words/phrases
Interference
Faulty technology
Which one seems most likely? Which ones require too many assumptions?
EVPs =/= Science
dudepal187 2 months ago
@dudepal187 ::: Good list. A lot of EVPs are indistinct. But some are of very high quality. Which one? They don't all fit under just one explanation. I would agree that EVPs are still experimental. Maybe someday we will have an actual telephone between worlds. That has been predicted by those on the other side.
k0smon 2 months ago
@k0smon I think you misunderstand. No matter what EVP you are listening too, explanations similar to the first two I listed require far too many assumptions to even be plausible. I was trying to give an example of how we can use Occam's Razor to demonstrate why EVPs are generally unscientific.
dudepal187 2 months ago
@k0smon Stringing words together may be phonetically pleasing, but it is semantically inept. Let's keep nonsensical phrases like 'higher frequency of reality' for non-science videos, please.
MrPianoJames 2 months ago
@MrPianoJames :::Are you sure about that? Do you accept the 11 dimensions? Why would you? You cannot detect them with your 5 senses. To most people, 11 dimensions of the universe sounds like nonsense. Today's science fiction is tomorrow's science.
Kaku is speaking of vibrating stings. Vibrations have frequency. Do they all vibrate at one frequency, or are there different frequencies? Expand your mind; hopefully, your mouth will follow with your mind.
k0smon 2 months ago
@k0smon We cannot detect 11 dimensions with our 5 senses alone, but we can definitely detect them with aid of modern technology. I agree that most people would find this ridiculous, but I'm afraid most people are not qualified to comment.
Vibrations do indeed have a frequency, and there are indeed different frequencies as you say. I do not see how this aids your argument. Reality does not have a frequency in the same way that socks do not have shopping - the statement is nonsense.
MrPianoJames 2 months ago
@MrPianoJames :::Depends on how you define 'reality'. Kaku defines it as 'cosmic music resonating thru 11 dimensions. What is your definition? Reality means existence. Can we really detect the 11 dimensions by technology? Or is it still theoretical and indicated by mathematical deduction?
k0smon 2 months ago
@k0smon We can detect the 1 dimensions, yes. Check out some of the great vids on here to find out more.
I mean no harm, all I wish to portray is that saying things like 'higher frequency of reality' (which doesn't make any sense) on science videos, with people who like science, and are concerned with science, is asking for trouble. Scientists are unbiased people who deal with evidence. Your comments would probably receive a better reception with a group of people less concerned with facts.

newagecozaki 3 months ago
@newagecozaki ::: Where did 'satanic' come from in your theory? Your conclusions seem unrealistic.

Just think about it and then comment!
newagecozaki 3 months ago
ok...let's put all the wise cracking comments aside for now and respect the professor. (will continue in a next comment box)
newagecozaki 3 months ago
@newagecozaki cause singularities contain infinities.. guess he doesn't like them
RoyCostasimgeek 3 months ago
@RoyCostasimgeek Michio Kaku does not appreciate some basic mathematical philosophy. Zero, one and infinity are a triune state, the definitions of which are connected by a law of universal paradox, where zero and infinity are existential states which are potentially for certain, and 1 being the certainty on either of them, representating a derivative on a fundamental contradiction, by the law of universal paradox via which zero and infinity are in a necessary dialectic unity. Think about it!

The answer is not "God" (that's a stupid answer), it's "through the manipulation of local sets of variables".
Reality IS a matrix. Of infinite dimensions (immagine an array of infinite length with every single element of it being identical to said infinite array).

Blakout1313 3 months ago
@Blakout1313 I think you are asking a question that isn't there. From watching the video I don't think he means that the language of math points it there, rather the logic points it to 11 dimensions since everything fits then.
Think of it as a system where you have individual operators that has to be connected. For one system to work it needs at least 11 operators. If you however add more operators, some operators would get into conflict for handling the same thing.
That's how I understand it...
