  • Gooood Job boy!!, keep the creativity blooming

  • not to disrespect man but i didn't take you seriously till saw what you made. shut me up quick

  • that is by far the best i have seen in making do with what you got. thats the way to do sir. great job

  • awesome! thats for the post!

  • You got some skills bro!

  • Great overview on some of your homemade tools, would be good to see more. I saw like 10 of those forklift forks at the salvage yard today but couldnt think of anything to use one for so.... thanks!!!

  • You are SO AWESOME!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!

  • I gotta say I have every professional tool to extract the best finish from Metal. I polish molds up to mirror finishing. Your inventiveness is Sooo Kool. The centaur must be finished by now. What was the end result?

My passion is Nano Sculpture. My Welding & Fabrication business involves Laser welding. I see through a microscope and use wire the thickness of a human hair (.004")

You my friend have the blood of a true artist flowing through you. Your means of making the sculpture is the real art!

  • I think Asmith is right. It may be a hobby, but obviously you are very creative. You'll survive the revolution alright. Great job and laugh... Please post some of your creations.

  • wow thats a finish, thumbs up from me.

  • Hey man do you live in la habra right on walnut S.T. with a huge dragon made from metal out front. The location looks familiar on your vid.

  • i will angree with ZippoVarga

  • Dude, I'm a professional, and you are too damn good to consider this your hobby. For real. Your day job better pay bank.

  • I bet it feels that much better because your art is made with mostly tools made by you.

  • great tips about keeping salvaged stuff!

  • your anvil is quite real and your art is very impressive

  • that there anvil's a hum dingier

  • Nice work, mate. Great vid. Takes balls to show stuff that you're proud of, that isn't so called 'professional quality'. Opens yourself up to have the piss taken out of you, so Kudos. Glad to see you're getting the credit you deserve in these comments, that centaur looks great.

  • wow that ending there, that was fantastic! make sure to make a video when you're finished! or along the way also :)

  • Dude, that's some really good stuff!

  • Good job on that Centaur, and thanks for the inexpensive tips..

  • thats some cool shit some of the handiest tools u cant by or there is no point in wasting that kind of money!!

  • cant wait to see your centaur. i´m subscribing

  • damn man , i just seen this and i kno this is an old video , but ur a fuckin bad ass man

  • What a pleasure it is to see someone who can, in the truest sense of the phrase, make much out of little. Your artistry and ingenuity are each of the highest order. Thanks for sharing your "no frills" gear with us.

  • So... I've been forging things for a while and experimenting on different things, and I came across an intresting design. It's called a flame dagger and I was wondering if you know how to make one, or have any tips or both. The more info the better. Thanks for the help.

  • wow great work and nice vid.

  • Awesome tips and you're a true artist my friend!!

  • @ZippoVarga Thanks. I appreciate the comment.

  • @freddytk421 how did you get it to stand up like that while you were welding it?

  • @freddytk421 Thanks man , i wanted to forge things for hobby BUT the tools like the anvile was expensive (for me).True eye opener thanks again!

  • I am impressed. After seeing your artistic skills I say call your tools whatever you want as long as you get the results you want.

  • that is awesome can you send me some pic when you have finished

  • awsome job....just a tip if you ever weld cast iron you need to heat it first to get a good solid weld.

  • dude, that is freaking awesome, best part is the fun in making the tools ! ! ! good job

  • @atfigure Thanks. true it's good when you make something to make something else. It will cost more because it's double hand made or handmade2.

  • Wow. You talk so amature yet you forge like a pro. Keep up the great work my friend, and you'll do fine. There are some people out there that will pay thousands for that centaur. Once your done, grind all the seams flush, sand the whole thing, and put a coat of bronze on there.

  • A real avil is working anvil! It doesn't have to be the classical shape. You had a absolutely great idea to take a towmotor blade and make it your anvil - that is a very good grade of steel. Same way with making your own tools and jigs. You aren't a true blacksmith or machinist until you make your own to suit the task.

Don't take any crap from anyone, you're doing it right. Just show them your centaur and any other stuff you've made - the proof is in the pudding.

  • @cyberbadger My grandfathers anvil was a piece of railroad track. He made lots of his own tools. Course back in the early 1900's ya pretty much had to I guess lol

Your work makes up 10 fold for anything you might mispronounce or not know the exact term for.

  • I think you can call your anvil a real anvil.

    It's earned it's place.

  • As a fellow hobbyist and metal pounder, I say nicely done! Necessity is the mother of all invention, and I can't count how many tools I've made to fill a need around the shop... Keep it up and keep having fun!

  • That is awesome work man. I bet Hephaestus is very pleased with you

  • That's a cool hobby, good to see somethin like this.

  • cool vid and cool stuff :-)

  • thx man big help

  • Dude thats freakin awesome...don't downgrade urself so much, you tell the nay sayers to post thier own video of homemade items

  • holy fuck O.O thats one bad ass centaur

  • Wow youre awsome!

  • I think you are a cool ma faka. My honey says HI.

  • Dude, that's amazing! If you ever sell that Centaur you'll have plenty of money for a top of the line anvil! Of course, you apparently don't need a standard anvil, so spend your money on more scrap iron and make more amazing sculptures!

  • nice work

  • You're doing a right good job there good luck to you !

  • Nice work, Freddy, and great attitude; go for it, my man.

    Rich

  • u spend way too mutch time making cool stuff :P

  • .......if that isn't cast iron it would have been one hell of an impressive length and weight of square bar!!

If you have a honeycomb effect ,or pinholes, from where a weld has broken or you've ground down a weld, it's cast iron.

It doesn't really matter, i could tell by your description of things you haven't spent a lot of time in the welding industry, and i found it quite endearing and amusing.

Then i was totally jaw dropping-ly stunned by what you are creating!!!

    Keep up the awesome work!

  • @dubberdoodee Those counter weights are cast iron. I never said I was a blacksmith nor do I care to ever be one. That's my garage, I don't have a shop because it's a hobby. Why are you such a bitch as pussy?

  • The centaur is cool I like to look at it more than to read the dubberdoodee crying about cast iron :D, thumb up for self lerning skill and talent

  • @SmokeTatum Thanks but I have to admit I did take some classes at the local community college. Thanks again.

  • @freddytk421 You know that there are many of those that spend years on learning and arent even close to your skills, so dont be so negative. Im self machinist, and i spendt not whole 4 months on learning, but work in gear manufacturing on cnc machine where many that learned over 5 years for this didnt, make it. The point is that if you want something and you have enough good ideas, you can do it and you wil learn in practice.

  • @freddytk421 hahaha love it

  • @dubberdoodee LoL He's not a blacksmith. He's an ingenious fucking artist who's work kicks fuckin ass! Meanwhile your page has nothing but a commercial for a stamped piece of Chinese junk. Let's see you make something!

  • Better start righting these things down! Stuff is gold. Im gonna have to stop by the scrap yard tomorrow

  • Nice work there : )

  • The tools are creative.

But I was far more impressed by the sculpture. It's a wonderful piece of work.

  • 1:58 weldeded it.

  • hey, show us the centaur after its done.

  • Nice Work, ..............you are an Artist

  • nice nice i subbed can you make more vids to enjoy us:d

  • its not the tools that make the art, but the man who uses the tools

  • Awesome work, its always impressive to see this amount of talent come from bare bones equipment.

  • You need to be a professional artist...........

  • Nice sculpture work! I bought a DHC 2000 (Henrob) a bit over a year ago and really haven't had a chance to touch it much since. Had all sorts of ideas but life got in the way. :-) You're inspiring me for sure. Did see someone do some amazing cutting with theirs so I think it just takes practice...and not having a plasma cutter to fall back on. Keep up the good work!

  • @VisorBlue Thanks. I like the way it cuts thin metal.

  • Beautiful work! That you had to make all the tools first shows just how much talent you have!

  • @goordye Thanks for the comment.

  • very talented, don't under estimate yourself.

  • very talented, don't under estimate yourself. Thumbs up!

  • Smart use of material. blacksmiths have been recycling for hundreds of years. My poor mans Anvil is a section of Railroad rail.

  • @Grimmvolvo i use that but i dont like it very much because it has a rounded top that makes small objects impossible to hammer out correctly

  • @Grimmvolvo Been trying to find one of those, but I guess I'll have to make one, huh?

  • cool

  • that is so awsome respekt

  • @antheaxe Thanks man.

  • very nice improvisation!!!

  • @lukphonp Thanks, i wish I didn't have to improvise but I don't do this stuff enough to make it worth shelling out that kind of dough. thanks for the comment

  • awesome! the whole video i was wondering what you used the anvil for, and then you showed your art work! amazing! very cool stuff! thanks for showing it!

  • @captjeff78 Thank you for the comment

  • this is awesome, keep up thee art bro : )

  • @rookie2202 Thanks for the comment. I will get back on it soon

  • Great ideas sir!!

  • Nice improvisation. I'm looking for a makeshift anvil i coulc make out of railway or something, im just worried it will exceed my rather tight budget

  • Wow, This is awesome. You should make a suit of armor, that would be so cool.

  • @VTwanderer Look at my subscriptions there is a guy on there called sgtviktor or something like that. He makes unbelievable fantastic suits of armor. Also check out hammerform. I forgot their exact names so look at my subscriptions and check them out.

  • like your anvil

  • I love it. Really appreciate your honesty as well. When you can turn out things like your centaur, the language or terminology is not important. Keep up the great work and post an update. (maybe you already have...) thanks

  • Wow, I really liked your video! I was going to buy some swages but now I want to make my own! Super cool ideas and I love your art!

  • That's great man! In your line of work you don't even need a real anvil because you don't forge traditional blacksmith work. You made your own tools from scratch that helped you work on something that IMO is beautiful and well made soo much respect and keep it uP!

  • Good work man, Keep the art alive

  • Thanks I am making some actual how to make art videos as we speak...er type that is.

  • You have some damn good ideas. Im gonna keep my eye out for some of these pieces!

  • Thanks yea almost anything will work in a pinch even a tree stump. for sheet that is.

  • Don`t sell yourself short - it`s obvious you`re quite a craftsman

  • Thanks.

  • Dude, your work is amazing, I'm very impressed!

  • Thanks, now if I could only finish something all the way through I would be all set. lol

  • I arc weld for a living and your welds look pretty good to me.

  • Thanks that was 7018 in the flat position with tons of passes on the anvil. I didn't realize what I was in for when I cut that thing but it sounds nice. thanks again.

  • Lol.. This is kind of funny... I have been looking for something to use as a anvil. So far i havent found anything.. Well good job you made there. And i bet your sculpture will be awsome! Whats funny? I drive forklifts all day long... Thank you for opening my eyes up!!! :)

  • @J1I9M7M4Y Are you going to have a little "Accident" with the forklift? lol

  • He he.. Accidents do happens.. Lol..

  • very nice work and great innovative ideas on the anvil and swages

  • really clever use of found stuff, and you are quite an artist as well - thanks for sharing your work

  • thats very well done ,good thinking there on the anvil and other things, nice looking workshop, the best of inventions comes out of places like that ,great job .

  • Got your piont !

Dont need to be book smart.

All the books in the world cant enable somone to make a sculpter like that !

It's all about honing your skills!

    great work!

    peace

  • WOW your very smart

  • What a brilliant man you are. Thank you for sharing with us. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks I hope to be making some more videos soon.

  • My good man you are really gifted artist and i must say i'm impressed by your work on this statue.I'm a knife maker from Croatia and as many of us improvised blacksmiths don't have money for an anvil(it costs about 400 euros for a 50 kg )so I've made mine from a truck skeleton part thingie...??'...good work m8!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you

  • impressive work, especially considering the improvised tools. are anvils difficult to get in australia? i too made a couple of improvised ones before i splurged on a "real' one... here in the u.s. a used anvil goes for about $2 a pound.

  • I don't know, I live in the great state of Texas. I am keeping my eye out for a good deal. thanks

  • my apologies. for some reason, i confused you with an australian smith i have corresponded with. i wish you luck finding a good anvil.

  • psyco sculpture! u r a madman i love it!

  • man I came across this video a few days ago and I thought all the stuff you had was crap and I wonderd why the hell you made a video showing of your crappy home made tools. after I saw the swaging block I clicked to another video. tonight I saw it again and watched all the way through... you my friend are a genious and I am ashamed I judged your work without even seeing what you could do with those tools.

You have a gift and I have egg on my face! Keep up the good work!

  • Wow thanks. but I made them because I can't see myself paying thousands of dollars for big hunks of metal that dont even plug into anything, rather than any kind of genius. They work good for sheet and thin plate but I wish I can get the real things someday.. I have one other vid using that "swage". and it works fine I always thought I will make another when that one gets too smushed but its still perfectly intact. thanks again.

  • I did some ringing around this morning and managed to get a bargain the whole forklift tyne for the cost a a carton of beer $ 36 australian YAHOO YIPPY LOL

Anvil for a carton of stubbies and a hand shake

  • I'd be happy too, I can't seem to find anymore after I made this video.

  • I got mine from a forklift hire repair company Try looking for forklift repairers in your area. I just looked them up in the local phone book.

Forklift tynes tend to start cracking at the bend and here is australia at least they must be replaced NOT WELDED, The point is they crack right in the the bend and that does not affect the area of steel we are interested in :D

  • Thanks I'll try that.

  • PS : MAN THAT IS GOING TO BE ONE WICKED STATUE When you are finished Well done..

  • 5 stars dude you have some talent there keep at it..

Great Idea for an anvil cheap hard and works well.

  • Great work.

  • That sculpture is incredible. And I bet the piece that your hand is on at 2:28 would make a good horn for your anvil. Grind it down a bit with a disc grinder, smooth out with a sanding disc, weld it to one end of the anvil and temper both really well. I wish I knew of a scrap yard where I could pick up an improvised anvil. I've spent years checking the flea market whenever I go home because I don't know of any scrap yards

  • hooly f*ck man... It's awesome OO

    ^^'

    VEEERY nice work ^^

  • I am impressed. Thomas edison said "HELL, there are no rules here....we are trying to accomplish something". This quote is for you. There is more than one way to do things and no wrong way for an artist. Its guys like you doing with what you have that make America great. I can't help but think that you are just seed and are ready to grow. If you where a young athlete scouts would be all over you. Keep working you have a lot of potential

  • I think your underestimating your abilities !

I know if I was to show you some welding and general metal working techniques you could be very good. Try hooking up with someone in your area with similar interests you can far !

  • Oh yeah, and your centaur is impressive!

    Keep pounding iron!

  • Very nice use of scavenged material! I have always seen forklift tines rated as 4140 steel, which makes an excellent anvil. The size and shape looks to be excellent for general one-man sized forging. I've seen a lot of anvils made out of scrap, and this is probably the best.

Danz, Harbor Freight and other similar stores sell cast iron ASO, or "anvil-shaped objects". Also called boat anchors. Add a hardy hole and I'd rate this one as being as useful or more so than a London pattern anvil.

  • WOW,your sculpture is so COOl!Nice work.

  • thanks, hopefuly I will finish it soon when we start getting some cooler weather and I can stand to go outside.

  • if price is the issue with anvil, there are cheap ones avilable at harbor freght for $60 for a 55 pounder. the one near my house also carrys 15 pounders for only $20. 15 pounds is a bit small. probably for small projects

  • not bad im going to give it a go thnx this guy is going far! if he sticks in what he is doing =)

  • Thanks Grime I need to get back on it I have been slacking lately. thanks again

  • Dude that is awesome, and some great advice too, I'm gonna go hunting soon for a something similar to use as an anvil.

  • thanks and good luck

  • I think that "little block you made" is a type of forming die, traditionally made from carving a depression in a hardwood stump, but hey, if it works for you...

P.S. Check out my sawed off shotgun (12 inch) review video, if you're so inclined.

    Nice work on your centaur.

  • some of yaw (from Texas too) mentioned railroad railing. mines already dinged and leaving impressions on down side of my pieces. gotta watch how ya strike yer metal but otherwise my makeshift anvil is fine.

  • just out of curiosity (and no insult or sarcasm intended) what will you do with a finished centaur? most of the stuff in my little shop is second hand jimmy-riggin, I like some of your ideas. my wife says i don't need any more encouragement for packratting (never know when you can use it or need it)

  • It's called art man. He can sell it, or keep it to show off. I think it's pretty cool. Having an inventory of your works, like a portfolio, is good for showing potential clients that you can do good work (If you're looking to sell).

  • I'll probably just put him behind my house as yard art or something like that.

  • looks really nice, with skills like yours you sould do plate armor.

  • thanks I would love to try that but I don't have the tools or patience. I watched some of those guys videos on here and it looks really hard and expensive.

  • clever ideas and I like the way the hammer marks look like muscle on the torso of the horseman . If you havent got one try a fly press for a more controlled way of forming your material ..cheers

  • Great sculpture, when i worked for a smith we used to do those dishing, or panel beating bits into depressions on hardwood logs, makes a bit less noise and takes some of the jar or bounce out of the work.

  • thanks for the advice I have seen people doing that and will try it. thanks again.

  • My kind of vids. railroad ties work good to.

  • I sometimes get my hands on railroad track from south Texas and they work great but I usually sell them on craigslist for an obscene amount of money and they go fast because people are always wanting them here and they are hard to find. If you can find them in Sananto you should consider exporting them all the way over here to Austin.

  • great vid

  • You forgot to mention, The cost of supply's.. lol.. I bet it wasnt much and from what I saw, You can "get er done".. Good job..Thanks for sharing with us.

    Five stars ..Awesome Tube.

  • thanks

  • dude u shod get a real anvil becauce u r very good

  • haha that is awesome! i did a similar thing 4 anvil with bit o rail road track, works really well, i made a horn 4 it by piling up bits of round metal so lookid like upside down ice crem cone, welded them together n filled in the gas with weld, smoothed off with grinder and then made a bracket that slid over end o track n welded horn to that so its removable, works pretty well

  • habor freight 50 bucks 100 lbs anvil

  • I love that store but the biggest one they have now is 55lbs for 60 dollars and its made of cast iron. This one is bigger than that and is made of steel. If you look at my other videos you would see that I am a big harbor freight fan but their anvil shaped devices are one of the things that I do not like. please Harbor Freight get some Chinese steel anvils!!

  • greeting earlthlings we have come to take over your world muhaha muhaha muhaha muhaha mehaha muhaha mihaha blah blah me sound like dork

  • i am just starting to get into the art and i noticed that u hat a lot of metal and scraps and i asumed u got it from the junk yard or somehting so i wuz wandering if all that stuff was really expensive or is it easy to get scince its just scraps?

  • Most of the scrap I bought from this man on craigslist that was selling his entire horde and it was pretty substantial I also have alot from a scrap yard over a year ago and yes scrap is cheap now with the economy the way it is and all the sheet and rods I bought new because sheet is a pain to clean and I can never find good pieces at the scrapyard. unfortunatly for me the scrap yard I went to stoped selling it because it wasn't worth it for them anymore.

  • mig welded haha :)

  • amazing work dude , your right about those anvils , i got one from my grandpa , when i researched it i found it is worth 1200 bucks . your metal sculpture is awesome . i got some welding videos to . but nothing that artistic. you get 5 stars from me

  • thanks. I have talked to some youtube people from around the world and in some countries anvils are a dime a dozen I need to find some way to get them to texas. thats a great heirloom to get from you're grandpa.

  • i just subscribed , id love to see more videos. thats so much for posting !

  • thanks but due to the popularity of my
