let me be blunt, I believe that you have commited an ATROSITY in destroying these episodes of Dotor Who. I believe that you MOST CERTAINLY HAVE NOT shown enough effort in restoring these episodes as YOU were the ones who destroyed these peice's of Doctor Whos history, i also believe that those INCREDIBLY CHEAP animations you call reconstructions were probibly made ON A CHILDS ALLOWENCE, NOW GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND START FIXING THIS MESS THAT YOU STARTED!!
@gmodman1701 I know its horrible for us, to see these stories wiped, but if you think about it from the BBCs point of view it must have been a fairly easy decision to make. I mean there was no foresight of video tape. Limit archive space, and limited funds for more tape. I dont think viewers would have been very happy with Galaxy 4 repeats for years etc so they needed to wipe the tapes to make more programmes. I dont think we would have liked our TV License going up in price for more tape.
@MrClassicDoctorWho although i do agree they should do a better job of reconstructing the episodes they wiped. They could do marvellous things with the technology we have today. Still thats the BBC for you, but you still have to remember they do not have unlimited means. We are actually VERY lucky they are doing the animations. What other programmes do they do that for?
@MrClassicDoctorWho And of course they didn't have permission to retransmit them. The unions wouldn't allow it. Why store something you had no means of using? Its tragic looking at it now but you're right, I think I would have made the same decision myself
@mmarjisr Because the BBC reused the original episodes along with all known copies so all that now exists of it is the soundtrack recorded with a microphone when it was shown on TV and a few pictures from the making of it.
@TashkentFox It's shocking to think that between Galaxy Four and The Wheel in Space - three full series of the show - of the 128 episodes produced during that time, only 38 episdoes survive comprising only four complete serials, three from 1965-66 and one from 1967.
The first, second and sixth series are missing nine, two and seven episodes respectively - but to have any missing is too much. What we need is a high-profile, televised campaign to encourage recovery of the missing episodes.
This is good for amateur reconstruction. Here's hoping it provides inspiration for the BBC. You never know what they might be able to do with advances in computer technology and the audio being fortunately still available. Reconstructions look our best bet for episodes that are very unlikely to be recovered (damn junking!).
You've commented pretty much every recon video on youtube saying you have copies of them.
If you did i'm pretty sure you wouldn't waste your time scrawling around YouTube - you'd either call the BBC and or tell the papers and get your 15 minutes of fame.
Hi. Would you be interested cin swapping your Enemy of the world episode for INVASION PART 1? There is no sound but its complete. Try this number 07984 115704. Acopy only of course on dvd. Why not return yours to the bbc?
Iv'e got this recon it's really good, worth watching all the episodes though, it was great how they did the Rills with only one authetic photograph, but the chumblies are the best!
If you look on the Dr Who website it says they have found two more episodes -
Episode 3 of the William Hartnell adventure "Galaxy 4" and Episode 2 of Patrick Troughton's "The Underwater Menace"

Hey the chumblies look okay for amateur reproduction (although it's probably exactly like the original knowing the usual quality).

Alive? You mean, a) found somewhere in Hong Kong, or b) animated in an animal-like fashon.
AlbinoCaterpillar 2 years ago
Don't really know about where the episode was found but definitely A.

What I'm trying to say is you should say "only episode 3 exists". Sorry to be picky.
