British comedy is by no means 'better'. I will say that it is a dryer comedy, but that's because it takes more intelligence to get it. This is coming from an American who loves British shows but understands how the American masses just plain do not get it. It is a discredit to this country, and often it's the same people that will buy the Now That's What I Call Music CDs, or whatever is at the top of the charts.
