  • Really dig this video, as I'm becoming interested in taking up this sport in the near future. I already do some power lifting and wanted to know what kinds of lifts you do to prep for this.

  • @SonnyAmou

I think you're on the right track, for sure! The major lifts are where I like to spend my time: bench, incline, OH press, front squat, back squat, and of course hang snatch and hang clean. Best of luck to you, Sonny!

  • I've had this saved to my computer for over a month. My first Highland Games is two Saturdays away. This video has helped a lot.

  • looking at getting into the highland games. Any advice to impart or training regimens to share?

  • Great Video!

    Brazil Love this!

  • Nice video man! What's the name of the song?

  • This song is, "MOVE" by Thousand Foot Krutch ... great group!

  • Sometime you want to go out and throw, let me know. I'm just minutes from the park I throw at, and I've got all the equipment. I go in the evenings after work, and yes, it's a monster of a caber!

  • Does that REALLY say 165lbs?!?! Man alive! I may have to come practice with you.

    LOL.

  • who shaved that wookie? Dam Mckim is my idol...he is like dudley doright with caber skills.

    Love ya Danny boy

  • Dudley Dooright? But I'm not Canadian! : )

  • WOB could use some work and Stones if that is cool? I like the sport specific exercises idea too.

  • I'm glad you liked it Glenn!

  • That helped me alot, thank you. Hope to see you at the Glen again soon.

  • I'm glad it was beneficial to you. Any ides for a different event video?

  • awesome video. You didn't really mention it, but I noticed that you had a lot more "hip drive" on the larger sticks vs. your training caber... natural power at work there for sure! Again, great job breaking at down.

  • Thanks man, I'm glad it was helpful. Yeah, I try and concentrate on the hips, and it seems to be more explosive in a competition when you're psyched.

  • Great job Dan. Thanks for posting this, I will try the "no jump stop".

  • Hey Dan, Awesome vid!

I will definitely be working on carrying the caber higher.

    What song is this?

    thanks for posting this, man.

  • Thanks DL! Yeah, the jump stop works for a lot of great throwers, so I agree it works for many. Hope to see you in St. Louis. Happy Training.

    >Daniel

  • Excellent...good information here. I learned much the same information from another thrower and it was key to my being able to get my turns.

I'm still a jump stop'er...but that was what I was taught, may have to try your way and see. Thanks for the examples and good luck as a Pro!
