wearing fancy pants was never a "tradition" of the nyc cny parade. considering the fact that fireworks was such a huge part of the parade before the ban, those silky satin type pants would've been ruined after 10 minutes.
Traditional lion dancing did NOT have pants to go with the lions. There was no "proper" attire back in the days. So I think Armyboy is being somewhat contradictory by stating that he is only impressed by real "authentic" lion dancing in proper attire. However, I do agree that having some other pants other than jeans would look better. I've seen some schools use coloured satin pants if they don't have the actual lion dancing pants that come with the lion.
CCYL use to use the "Slick Satin Pants" mainly because it was good for protecting against fireworks. But also, because it did look better than a pair of Levis. For "private" shows we use the "proper" pants. But during the parade(s) when you have 20 or so guys alternating Lions its not feasible to have everyone wearing the "pants" I will suggest bringing back the Satin Pants. Be Well
Is that so...? I think carrying on the traditional Chinese tradition is priceless and if possible, I just think it would be awesome to do it in a full proper attire.
Maybe if some companies are kind enough to sponsor, that would be great...otherwise as said in my first reply, find someone who can sew it or make your own with cheap materials...it would definitely be better than just wearing jeans outside =)
well, up to you...I only see that as an excuse that's all...I am usually impressed only by those who aim to preserve and present the real authentic Lion dance in its proper attire and tradition only...Kudos to them! =)
I doubt your group has pants for 30+ people. This is traditional style of blessing stores. If your so traditional, then explain to everyone what tradition is.
lazidani, thanks for posting this video. well done. i am happy that your group still kept the old traditional Futsan black lion head. I love those type. does the young lions still have more of those? i remember back then youguys had a red and yellow gold one. how many lions you have in total?
how many lions we have? im not sure. but quite a lot. are u going to see us this sunday? this sunday is going to be the last parade for chinese new years. which is on the 17th. finale show will be at that same spot. going to see a lot of old heads come out too
