wow, led lights are not centered, there is only 2 660w LED's compared to 3x 600 watt HD table, not only NOT scientific, not close to even being fair.. plus this guy just likes to hear himself talk, i tryed watching one of his clips before and quit 1/2 thru as he did nothing but talk.
Hey mr.blue Goo I'm a licensed medical patient in wa state any chance I can get a cutting or seed of blugoo maybe we could do a trade for the strain I developed "american werewolf"? Idk let me know.
This video isn't useless, its a real good way of showing the downfall of LEDs if you don't get ones that have the science backing it. I'm guessing these are 1 watt leds.
One thing I've read while researching, is that plants under LEDs don't transpire as much, if at all. So as a result, they don't uptake water and nutrients as much as under a HID. This causes calcium deficiency, and could also be the reason for smaller growth. Raising the temp of the medium can help with that, or as I'm doing in my own panel build.. add some InfraReds back into the mix.
There's a lot of big talk about LEDs, and they act like the lumen per watt is irrelevant due to the specific spectrums. You did a good job of showing how this isn't necessarily true. It might vary depending on if it's red, blue or combinations of wavelengths, but I suspect nothing will touch HPS for some time. My question would be for a quantified yield per watt. Yield of the 600w led divided by 600 and same for HPS. I'd guess that HPS is at least 1.5 times as much as LED.
im learning everyday about marijuana and once again ive learned something. Thank you for producing such a beautiful bud Mr. Blue Goo, makes me proud of the nor cali i live in :D
Man you buy wrong led lghts :) i mean better buy more smaler panles....... because they can cover more area...... In that test led panels never win :( And belive me i testing led lights and i only can say LED=FUTURE :)
@1988Blazej LOL! Dude we are commenting on an LED video, I have looked on "the internet" so,,,,, AGAIN!!!!!!! Where is the evidence????????? LINK??? SITE?????
@1988Blazej Ummm ok, could you be a little more specific besides directing me to a hydroponic retailer??? I couldn't find ANY evidence supporting led superiority. Do you have any evidence or are you just trying to plug a hydro shop? If you're not completely full of shit it should be beyond easy to direct me to a SPECIFIC site or link to a SPECIFIC study/test that is conducted EXACTLY like BlueGoo's with side by side results. If you can't do that, then don't bother responding with more nonsense.
@1988Blazej Dude, I appreciate the effort but I don't think you know the difference between real evidence and manufacturers claims. AGAIN!! I'm not looking for BIASED anecdotal reports by led companies. I'm looking for ACTUAL HARD UNBIASED EVIDENCE such as BlueGoo's tests and results. Every led company out there claims their product is equal to or superior than standard HID lighting so sending me their "claims" is meaningless. It's obvious at this point you have no real evidence. Take care bro.
Good question. Im between big grows at the moment due to getting busted a short while back. Will put a vid up soon though of my brand new home made led light and will do a time lapse of its first grow. All i have at the moment is one little girl under 60w of led.
still good looking buds. you have to feed the plants a little diff under leds. but all in all still good looking buds. i guess it all depends if you get payed for weight or quality!
Good led lights have a minimum of 7 bands, to beat hps youre gonna need 15 or more bands. The exact absorption peaks (nano-metres) for chlorophills A&B are, 430, 453, 642, 662. There are lots more bands needed to get the carrotenoid and phytochrome peaks and fill in the gaps for both chlorophills, here they come in nano-metres and cct. 380 400 410 460 480 500 525 575 590 600 610 620 630 720 - 10000k 6000k 3000k.
Question on the led's. You said you used 600 watt led lamps. Now was that the power drawn by each lamp or the equivancy that the led was rated to replace comapared to an HID. I just wanted to clear that up because all the led's I have seen claim that a 100Watt led will replace a 400watt HID (as an rough example)
if you center the light right you might cover your plants better. i have a 740w and beat 2 Hortilux Super HPS EN Lamp - 1000W both had 24 plants and i got 7.62 oz more off the LED
hows it going goo? just wanted to ask how was the finished product using the led light how was the smoke in general? and if it was not as good as the coventional light. the power bill savings was it worth it?
HEY MR BLUEGOO YOU SHOULD TRY THE CREME DE LE CREME LED GROW LIGHT THE 336X-PRO Extreme LED Grow Light
I THINK IF ANY LED LIGHT IS GOIN TO WORK IT WOULD BE THIS 1 ! I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU EXPERIMENT WITH IT AND SEE IF IT DOES ANY GOOD ? IM SURE HYDRO GROW LED WILL LEND YOU 1 OF THESE BEAUTYS AS TO PROVE WHAT THEY SAY IN ACTUAL FACTS N FIGURES CAN REALLY DO THE JOB THAT IT WAS MADE FOR
people, I'm not a P.H.D or anythimg like that, this expierriment was not formal. this was me just tryimg to see the difference between the two types of light. I would be glad to try anybody elses led lights if you would like to lend them out. the led were on tracks so the plants got plenty of of lighting during flower time. but thank you for the comments
@MrBlueGoo420 Sadly LED's are too expensive for me,,, Anyway you should try combining them with the HPS though bro 1000 watt HPS + a 600 watt LED a plant add a grip of CFL's too.
There are a few problems with this test which can and obviously (looking at the results) did have large impacts on the yield.
1. Sunshine systems may not have the best LED lights...(high quality LED's are spaced 2' above canopy avg. and cover a larger surface area)
2. The LED lights used required a track therefore the plants on the side of the trays were getting almost half the time of direct light instead of constant direct light (as were the hps).
3. LED lighting requires small changes in the atmosphere such as ideal temperature being 82* instead of 72* etc....He used hps in the past and since plants were all in one room he must have used the hps preferences.
Therefore this was not a proper test in the comparison of LED vs HPS. (Keep in mind in a proper comparison test you don't use the same amount of LED watts as HPS because that is one of the major beneficiaries of LEDs)
Amazing Job Bro, really Inspiring. The only thing I noticed that didn't make the experiment quite as fair isn't the 1000W VS 600w LED, it was the light spread and type. I read you were using 1w Chips. Those are the absolute worst PAR ratings. You would have needed the Black Star 2 or 3W chip series. (2) 600w 3Wchip Black Stars with Blue goo. Could have used a Drywall to separate the two; VS the 1000w HID lighting. I'm not a LED fanatic, but it would have been a more even playing field.
I agree with LD25Delta I would have also like to have seen seperate rooms for each light system as you didnt quite get the full use out of leds when there is 1000w of conventional blazing right next to it.

The way you had your LED's setup wasent the best , you could have easaly pulled out alot more bud with the LED's possisitoned better, Great video man , it shows LED is worth somthing , but its not totaly ready Thank you
Hey Mr. Blue goo. you should give leds another try. trade or sell the panels you got now and get some with 2 or 3 watt chip sets. they are around 60% brighter and the PAR is out of this world.
@mrsmithcolin175 They said the same thing about computers never being able to beat human players. Then deep blue changed all that. Unless they can make HID any better than they already are, LEDs will 1 day be the standard.

viol8r007 3 months ago
Just one small question:
What beam angle were the LEDs in the panels ?
For optimal grow, you have to use a beam between [ 60° / 75° ]
If you use a wider angle, you will have more surface under a less intense light beam so less power to photosynthesis.
I prefer leds, because :
- you have a bigger gr/watt ratio
- easy to maintain
- is a more quiet system
- you have less heat

good point ,i was wondering the same.
if i use 4 hps lamps i get hightemps .
with 4 led lights i get no heat at all and need electric heating in my room.
but when i us 2 led lights and 2 hps lights ,i still safe electric bills and maybe get enough heat.
i have put 20 plants on 1 m² and 1 hps , and 4 hps in my room.
so 80 plants.
that went well ,but too expensive .
people ask questions.
