Excuse me. But could you tell me the name of your style and maybe the lineage of your Sifu if you know it. I know the same form and I am trying to trace back the style. Also, do you know anything of the following fist forms: 8-step continous fist, The little Buddha fist, The Buddha palm, or The Mantis Fist?
well I learned broad sword first, next weapon was the long staff. I think sword first is better because it teaches you to control a weapon in general. we don't have a short staff in our school nor do we have belts/belt colours.
My Sifu teaches Southern Staff first, because learning the staff provides a greater sense of self and your surroundings. It is also a great way to train your stances in a transitional sense.
Nothern Broadsword is easier by far, but I believe that it is best to learn staff, though a harder weapon to control, first.
One reason Broadsword is taught first is because it is a one handed weapon. Staff is a two handed weapon, so it will teach how to control each extremity over time.
wow not ny style but wow your amazing im trying to learn new forms right now just so i can practice but wow man your awesome. *lol im a dork but* your an awesome fire bender (sorry love the avatar)
Yes, so it's Northern, Chang Chuan. I think were are saying the same thing. That form was part of the curriculum doubt they even teach it anymore. Lets remember when wushu was just being put together they took the forms of which were most indicative of the style "Northern" and "Southern". My coach was one of the young students when they were doing all this. Li Pei Yun.
do each movement 100 times with precision, power and fa jing. its not how many movements, it the quality of each! plus, whoever told you this is a norther shaolin form is incorrect. Its actually the 32 part dao form. The intermediate form of the dao in modern wushu. your teacher should know that! beware!
Does anyone know the actual name of this form?

My Sifu prefers to teach staff first because it builds one of the strongest concepts in kung fu: using the right and let hand simotaniously.
He also teaches it first because the drills are great to help perfect your waist/hip rotation and torque.

i agree. my sifu always says; you can come to class and just do the movements, but that won't make you any better

it was good but... when you wrap the sword around your back the sword should actually touch your back.

This is a basic Northern Sword Form. This is a well documented form. You can even find a book on this.
