Great vid: He really loves that "crush" of his in the beginning of the video. He would think about her while at the pub with friends or at home alone with his dog. Nicely done Sir.
well I am in my 20s and I get laughed at because I don't like todays music. I see people where I am, 30, 40, 50, into GaGa and bieber.....I don't get it!!
A couple of "twenty-somethings" at work will make fun of my age cause I'm just a few years shy of 50. I just chuckle to myself and think "idiots, you never got to live in the 80's"
@MrDavkoz You Sir...rock! Whoever those twenty something girls are...they REALLY don't have a clue. They probably like Brittany Spears or some crap like that. :) I'm 30, and since I was much younger I've always loved this music. New Wave, classic rock...you name it! ;p
@MrDavkoz They are immature and have no clue about good music. I am only 33, but I enjoy the 70s and 80s music much more than the modern stuff. I thank my parents for exposing me to good music back in the 80s.
@MrDavkoz I'm a twenty-something - 29 - and, I lived through most of the 80's (Born in '81 for the mathematically uninclined.). It was a pretty good to be a kid. Kids today - the greenhouse gases are getting to them or something because they're messed up. No attention spans, behavioral issues. If I rely on them for my Social Security, I can forget about it.
Anyway, they're wrong to make fun of your age. I don't understand that - age is to be respected. The younger gens got NOTHING.
@sneakiebug10 i agree i could count with one hand the kids i knew growing up who had behavior issues and ADHD and Autism and what not, there were like 3 maybe 4 , now every other kid today has problems.....your right being a kid in the 80's was still good time for growing up, i am a 76' kid......
@MrDavkoz Sure, Thanks for rubbing it in, I bet i'm not the only one in my age group(18-19) who wishes they were born 20 odd years beforehand or even 50 years(to live throught the 60's)
@MrDavkoz Im a bit older and gotta tell ya,You are so freaking right! I was over seas when this came out,In fact I was in Europe from 80- late 84.The music in the pubs and clubs played in Spain,Italy,France and most of all Holland ,Germany and Greece. The women were unreal. Even if you couldnt dance you still got up and danced!
i just remember it being a heckuva lot more fun than the 90s or 00's...travel was easier, people were friendlier...it's like by the 90s, the US had used up the last of the post-WWII good will from the rest of the world....
This song really appeals to me because it is so different from usual 80's songs, and also i am a city boy, so i usually crank this song up in my car, people look at me funny but Pet Shop Boys rock.
LATE '70s, TO THE EARLY '90s , NO MUSIC WAS BETTER. ROCK, FUNK, R&B, DANCE, YOU NAME IT. SINCE THE '50s NOTHING COMPARES, UNLESS, IT IS MUSIC LIKE THIS PERIOD IN TIME .......
@TheRGK123 - Look up Industrial. Depending on the specific subgenre, you're apt to find something that sounds uncannily like Classic New Wave. It's what attracted me to it.
It really is way more than just a matter of taste - music was much more creative and fun in the 80s. It is an embarrassment now but the stupid kids keep buying what is fed to them.
this song is surreal, i like the scene in the airport, thousands of people walking around + taking escaltors...the song pumping out on the speakers, it is so beautiful in a haunting way. it will always make me remember my 1st love Cory. the song is so beautiful and i always remember him when i hear this. some songs just remind you of people you've shared your life with.
The 80's were awesome... And so were very other decades I am sure, but the music was great and it happened to be the decade I grew up in.... Awesome! Bring me incredible memories. First dates, sneaking a 12oz Budweiser, hanging out with friends at the Stone Mountain lake in GA... Wow.... Listening to this song was just like taking a trip on a time machine
@MrSilvaed123 totally agree with you i take it from your comments you grew up in the states but still the same i grew up in the U.K during the 80's and can remember going out partying with my friends and yes of course getting drunk oh the days lol!
Agree with all of you, nowadays what they call music is such a fake, Sluts with no talent, nice asses yeah, but talent no even a bit. This guys are gays, but I don't give a FUCK they have talent. Lady kaka oopss sorry gaga is a man.
I like how "cool" they looked just walking down the streets in this video. I was in the city with a friend walking down the streets and this video came to mind.
From "West End Girls" to 25 years later of countless hits, the Pet Shop Boys are still on their game. I can take any sampling of their hits and play them in any order, and it would sound like a fresh album to anyone new to their music. And that is what I do. I have generated new fans of their music by doing that.
I love the song, but this video makes me crack up (like it too btw). The other guy doesn't do anything but have a confused look on his face throughout virtually the whole vid.
I remember this song came on in music class when I was in 3rd grade, and I sang every word and the teacher looked at me like ???? This song still gets bumped in my car!!!
There's another reason why I like this song so much. Aside from it, well, y'know, totally ruling, is that Tennant manages this air of cool detachment (almost boredom...check the last few seconds of the video), whilst still being completely emotionally invested in what he's singing/rapping. You don't hear that anymore. Sad but true.
@egnod funny thing, in the 80's i rarely listened to a lot of this kind of music but now id rather listen to anything from the 80s then some of the crap played today.
yeah no shit. Theres rarely as much good music today as there was, and it's usually all done now by foreign artists. Britian and America have lost their touch with music.
@egnod I agree. Im a Youngan and Its a Good thing the Economys down Now in the sense that Im not Buying these Rap Crap CDs. Even Most Metal Nowdays isnt quite up to par
I'll never quite understand why some people want to elevate the Pet Shop Boys to important music status. I enjoy their music. Loved it when I was a kid and still find it fun to this day, but influential? Hmm...
WAIMEA BAY SANDYZ BEACH BODY SURFING COMING OUT AND JAMMING DIS SONG IN DA 80S DAM I MISS U AND DA MUSIC AND DA SHOWS PET SHOP BOYS IN DA HOUSE ALOHAS
Who's say's caucasians can't rap, Brits at that. What a fun song it was. What am I saying, it will always be a fun song from the most fun decade of all time. Long live the 80's!
@MrAlexTheGreat1961 That's right I remember this song getting a lot of airplay on our R&B/Hip-hop stations back in the day. This was very well-received by many hip-hop listeners because of its tight beat, intoxicating harmony and cool, subdued rapping style.
These guys were real cool, what a song! I love a man dressed in a trench coat, makes him edgy and well, Mysterious! The grass is not always greener on the other side of the street!!

Man I miss the 80's so much..

Great song to test out the Stereo system ! !

This is the silkiest smoothest satin sounding song I know. Can almost feel the texture.

I wish soon in the future producers feel love for music and not drug dealing.

DAMN I loved the 80's!!! I really miss music like this, today's "music" is crap.

@egnod LISTEN TO GRUM! he's very 80's inflienced
Robustmusic 1 year ago
@egnod funny thing, in the 80's i rarely listened to a lot of this kind of music but now id rather listen to anything from the 80s then some of the crap played today.
Witchysis31 1 year ago
@egnod
yeah no shit. Theres rarely as much good music today as there was, and it's usually all done now by foreign artists. Britian and America have lost their touch with music.

Anyone seen "Flight Of The Choncords" episode where they have a song called "Inner City Pressure"? I swear they're mocking this song.

Here's a question. Lets say the Pet Shop Boys didn't exist until yesterday when they debuted this song what would you think of this song?
OldManPedro 1 year ago
@OldManPedro Instant hit! I was a teenager in the 80's and i feel in 89, for instance, that songs like this are timeless.
JKalmann 1 year ago
@OldManPedro I would totally dig it! I've been waiting for music to come back

@OldManPedro Hey old man ;), great point.

I'll never quite understand why some people want to elevate the Pet Shop Boys to important music status. I enjoy their music. Loved it when I was a kid and still find it fun to this day, but influential? Hmm...

Way ahead of its time. Sounds just as good now as it did when it was released almost three decades ago. Epic track.

@chachachaheyheyhey I agree with ya mate but learn to count. It was first released 2.6 decades ago. :)

Who's say's caucasians can't rap, Brits at that. What a fun song it was. What am I saying, it will always be a fun song from the most fun decade of all time. Long live the 80's!

I remember when I saw the Pet Shop Boys on "Soul Train" performing 'West End Girls' in 1985. That's right: "Soul Train"!!
MrAlexTheGreat1961 1 year ago 5
@MrAlexTheGreat1961 That's right I remember this song getting a lot of airplay on our R&B/Hip-hop stations back in the day. This was very well-received by many hip-hop listeners because of its tight beat, intoxicating harmony and cool, subdued rapping style.

Actually, this song is from 1986, not 1984. But then again, this video may have been recorded in 1984 and not released in the US until 1986.
