Cook them tonight, using seasonings you use with chicken. If they're old and dried out, cook them in a sauce or soup. The bugs lay eggs, which produce maggots. The longer you wait, the more hatch. Mushrooms are especially perishable in the summer.
@wildmanstevebrill These are best, IMO, after cleaning them..soak them in salt water for about 1/2 hour, drain then pat dry with paper towels, dip the mushroom in an egg and milk wash, then roll in cracker and seasoned breadcrumbs. Pan fry them in butter using a cast iron skillet , turning as they brown. Allow to drain on paper towels add salt to liking. To me they are like eatting a Moral Mushroom steaks when prepared in this fashion.
Success! I hacked down a couple pounds of them, but there was still some higher up that I couldn't get. There were tiny little bugs and ants crawling all over them that I shook off. Now it's in my refrigerator in a glass dish covered with plastic wrap. I couldn't find any paper bags to put them in. How long will they stay good for?
@imperfectionKillz Get the mushroom now. Leaving perishable food out in the heat and rain overnight, with all the bugs, can ruin it, and who knows how long it might have been sitting there already.
@123JumpingJacks Sorry, I didn't see this post earlier. Go to my site, (you can Google me—they don't allow URLs here) and to to the For Sale page. Thanks!
im curious hydrazine is a completely inorganic compound, is it used in the cleaning and manufacture of the substrate that commercial growers use to grow the mushrooms? Because i just dont see how an organic material produces a completely inorganic chemical compound.
@marcoze in chemistry terms, organic vs inorganic is not the same as the layman's understanding. organic compounds are chemicals that contain carbon. inorganic compounds are chemicals that do not contain carbon. Hydrazine is composed of nitrogen and hydrogen, thus it is inorganic.
inso far as the claim that the hydrazine found in mushrooms are carcinogenic, that's technically true but meaningless. you'd have to eat literally tons of mushrooms at a time to have any fear.
