In fact they were inspired by indian stupas. Plus a significant aspect of east asian spirituality as well as buddhism was profilerated by india. Dont try to change history. @jmdortega filipinos are asian. the only ones that think they are pacific islander are usually the ones that dont want to relate to asian culture and they think that if they are asian, they would be related to china or japan and they rather want to be close with the pacific islander side (micronesian, polynesian, melanesian, etc.)

Yeah, SE Asia share pretty similar looks in an area which were the part involved during tradional inter-regional trade era ....
East Sumatra share pretty various looks... Northern part of Java Island due to heavy trade during traditional era, they've got pretty various looks. Southern part of Java may look a bit homogenized. It is also happened in Indonesia, when you're comparing the coastal people and the far-inlanders .... Coastal tends to have more mixed-up....

Chinese call Vietnamese that because the 2 countries are enemies. They call Vietnamese that in order to insult them and to make them more somehow comfort the fact that China got beaten in Vietnam 30 years ago....You don't understand anything so shut up for everybody's sake!

you shut your face Katiusha! how can vietnam be east asian when it is GEOGRAPHICALLY in southeast asia, vietnamese sounds closer to cambodian and thai then it does to mandarin or korean. just accept it that east asians look down on vietnamese and they dont consider us as their own, i've learned to accept it now, although it was hard, im vietnamese and i accept my se asian roots. but like i said, you can do what you want, no one can tell you what you are or are not, im just expressing "me".

vietnam is part of se asia, but i think that katiusha person is referring to viet people are more like east asian. the way i see majority of viet people have major chinese influences, and viet lifestyle, culture, and charecteristic are more of east asian-ish, but nothing like se asian material. just look at your people and your language. even though vietnam is close to cambodia laos and thailand, viets are not similar to those 3 neighbors.

however, this vid is kinda misleading. Unknown person would assume that Cham people are mixed with Vietnamese now, which is totally wrong. After Vietnam took over the land of the Cham, many fled to Malaysia which is a well-known fact. So there is still a very sharp difference between Cham people and Vietnamese people.

arent the cham people ethnic minority in cambodia/south vietnam? and most of them are muslims that live in cambodia or theyre referred as khmer muslims? i heard that theres a little population of chams in cambodia.

@Nakphimsombat yes,they are ethnic minorities now..the reality is that in ancient times before the arrival of austro-tai people from southern china, they are the original inhabitants of cambodia and southern vietnam.and I also believe that the Khmer and Cham people are one family, it's just khmer people do not speak Austronesian languages like cham people.Khmer people are very influenced by the culture and the language of Austro-tai, while the Cham people still remain in the Austronesian culture

cham muslims referred as Cambodian Muslims not khmer muslims.because most khmers are buddhist.but there are some khmer people who marry with Cham people and then converted to Islam, that is what they called as Khmer Muslim.

indonesia is part of se asia. so you are considered as a southeast asian or pacific islander. i just look up cham people on youtube and watched a cham karaoke video and noticed that they have cham-khmer and cham-vietnam and they all seem to be muslim. very interesting.

yes,you are right..!! Indonesia (and philippines) can be both.being southeast asian or Pasific Islanders.The only problem is that now people will become a racist when he spoke in geographical areas.the pasific islanders of course not easy to accept Indonesia and philippines as part of them.because for them the Pacific islanders is what they call nesian (the island people).where they mean here is Micronesia, Polynesia and Melanesia.

so i think Indonesia and philippines better considered as southeast asian.because it is good for us and good also for them.Nobody feels offended or hurt because of this geographical area claims.and besides Indonesia and the Philippines are two countries initiated the establishment of ASEAN in 1967 (together with Malaysia,Singapore and Thailand).

southeast asia is the ancient lemuria or mu we are their left descendants after the quake and volcanic eruptios some islands didn't actually sank it got slipped apart and that is the reason why philippines and indonesia are archipelagic states!?
