If you're going to do Longshot without the KB part, the guitar player has to use the 3-stroke ja-Wit-nit skank, otherwise it turns around like Roxanne. 2x Barrel = WIN. Nice job
@mthai66 True, but we were not trying to cover all the parts of the groove with few instruments (since this isn't for performance/entertainment really). We were each "assigned" actual parts, and that simple guitar is one of them...it's just that some instruments are missing! :) Thanks!!
@hultonclint I hear ya... maybe it's just me but I feel like people have to be trained to chip in whatever is required to create the compound riddim you're shooting for; if someone drops out or isn't present, everyone else has to change what they're doing to make up for what was lost.
I understand this is just an exercise, but I think it's important at the end of that players "get" the idea that there are no fixed parts in Reggay; the same sub-rhythm might me on guitar in one song, on the compounded guitar and keys in another, or completely covered by the bass in a third. What band is this BTW? Very good stuff. -Matt Cranky
thank you very much! this was only our first time playing this, so it is rough, but the musicians are excellent. Unfortunately, we were unable to continue practicing because we moved away to different areas :(
- hey, - you guys are great, - the sax is a little too laid back/smooth - the guy needs to let rip! ( get him to listen to some of Rico's stuff, - not sax but might inspire!)- I rushed out to buy long shot myself back in '69, the start of a long reggae love affair. Great drum rolls! - cracking bass/guitar.
respect! This was part of a sort of "study session" we do where we listen to like 30-50 songs from a given time period, try to learn what makes them tick...then pick about 10 to learn how to play, and then get together in jam on them to sorta get in the groove and "know" them better. Everyone was in Santa Barbara, California.
