wow not exactly an even race but makes for interest and big crowds.....i wonder how fast the top speed of the car was when going down that runway?

Let's keep in mind that the 777 is pushing off of air in order to accelerate and the car is pushing against the ground so the car has a huge acceleration advantage. But jet engines have so much power that they make up for that huge disadvantage and then some. If the quarter million horsepower of that 777 were used to spin the wheels instead, it would accelerate so fast the pilot would black out.

who gives a shit about all the technical crap bottom line is a car will never match a plane like this in flight simply because its a car. but atleast they tried something most of us ponder when we watch fast things like GP cars and commercial jets.

aviation rules did u people see the power that 777 put on from the Ge90-94 94,000 pounds of thrust and the f-1 car toook forever to reach there by the time the nose main tires lifted up the runway the f-1 still was behind

I'm couldn't really understand how this race was done. There was only one camera angle, repeated several times, and it only showed about 5 seconds of footage. Were the car and the 777 on separate parallel runways? I take it, from his comment, that they were on the same runway. If so, how far apart (laterally) were they? I was just thinking how safe this all was.

No...its not gearing but all other factors, the engine, how the cars are designed to have the maximum amount of downforce..they need the boost to go faster.

they race on bio fuel for the A1 car and the plane used less gas than a test flight which has to be done anyway for a safety check etc...

the point is maybe to wine and dine the sponsors of this expensive sport and show them something different, entertainment, PR maybe, commercial sponsor retention, NZ is doing well in A1GP, punching above our weight, as usual on the world stage, bravo NZ!

We do more than enough in the environmental side, this won't hurt the environment at all
