  • hey have your windows ever broken???

  • Hey man what do you for a living/job?, I would totally liketo live your lifestyle!

  • hay look up rock stove and rock mass heater

  • You should put like triple padded carpet in the 4th floor. And a bean bag. And sit there and do nothing when you need a break.

  • Just a bit of cleaning and that would be the most awesomestest awesome house in the world! That's what dreams are made of, until this video I never had an idea just how tall it is! 4 floors woah.

  • Hei, I want to see your pipe crusher, and your hole puncher too. Could you show that to us and how you made them. Thank you, love you.

  • you n dashaina look adorable all dressed up. :)

  • An idea from greenhouse construction: you have two layers of plastic on the upper window section for now. We used to pull two layers of plastic and then inflate the area between with a small blower. (like the 12volt one used in a car heater) This separates the plastic to create a "dead air" space for insulation. The air does move a bit as there is total loss out all the leaks but install the blower inside and the effect should be positive = less firewood needed.

  • Mount the blower on a small piece of plywood with a hole, build the plywood into your inner frame somewhere, staple inner plastic with matching hole to plywood. Use battens (thin rippings) to staple down plastic edges.

  • I love it when a good plan comes together! Victory dance should have been in the new snow that didn't have a chance to thwart your work.

One complaint I've seen about dome buildings is that the rounded walls tend to waste space. Most furniture and fittings are squarish things. Your solution uses the best of both ideas. Strong dome frame and vertical walls that things like shelves can stand against.

  • here's a trivial off subject observation, is that a rack of tri-cams above your left shoulder @ :15?

I'm a climber, and was just curious. As i have yet to watch all your videos(pardon my impatience),, but are you going to make s climbing wall in your dome?

  • I have loved watching the development of the Mega dome. You and Dashaina are a true insprations. Thanks

  • Sick! Sick! Sick! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

    ..Awesome!

  • haha nice shave... you looked like my highschool physics teacher for a second

don't you lose a lot of heat from the windows? I notice that my right hand tends to freeze when i'm on the computer for a whole, because the window's to the right, and even though its well insulated, the heat passes through it just as easily as light!

cant wait to see the robot!

  • schweeet!

Looking forward to more robot building!

  • mother nature was oh so kind to you and your build! How awesome Jaimie, it must feel wonderful to see it complete!

  • Brilliant work.

  • Congratulations on the completion of the Palacial Megadome. You are AWESOME, Jaime! Keep up the totally awesome things you do.

  • Awesome!

Love the editing on this one (Jme in a suit vs. caveman *ahahaha*)!

I envy you for your abilities! I can't even think about building something like that. Keep going n entertaining :)

  • good jaime~ looking forward to your project ^^

  • awesome it just snowed here a few days ago here in houston its snowing every year!!!! it only snows every 14 yrs until now!!!

  • YYEEEAAAHH!!!! im happy for you :)

  • super sweet man.

    Looks fantastic.

oh and for the banana building stove.

    how about Trogdor?

he is after all the BURNINATOR!

  • now the dome is done it's robot-time!

or perhaps you should start with more shelves and clean up the mess (hey, you said it yourself :C) seriously I would freak out with so much stuff everywhere, not knowing where my lost things might have wound up :S

  • Yay Jamie!

  • Jamie - Your timing couldn't have been better with your firewood firewood haul the previus day.

People think this is a "Kit"??? What an insult, LOL

Get it straight folks, he did all of it by hand, from raw materials, recycled, originally living in a tent during construction in the middle of the woods. He didn't have a road, and he carried all the stuff you see, ALL OF IT, to the top of this mountain. The fact that he has any time for fun and games is amazing.

  • Its crazy how well it came together!

  • Hm...shaved JME is quite as rugged and manly looking.

  • EPIC.

  • Well now it's a dome in a tube. 3rd floor FTW!

  • HAHAHA you have great editing skills.

it looks freaking awesome and excellent timing on the snow...I'm sure you've totally been planning that all year.

  • Speaking of stoves... I do not think you should name the beast in the banana building anything coming from the word burn. That would just be silly. You already got Mr Burns. Since it's so big you can throw a BBQ in there, you should call it Barbie! :-D

  • wow jamie, hq vids at last im impressed.

  • Wooohoooo! Someone's been busy busy! You don't mess around! Look at those windows already in! Are you keeping rough totals of your building costs? I guess you pretty much have a lot of it documented in your videos. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Did not see that coming

    Looks very well

  • Rock! And Congrats! Sweet!

  • Wow dude! It looks awesome!

Also, I had no idea you built the dome without a kit. It had "Jaime" written all over it, I just never thought O_o

    Serious props, man. Kudos.

  • The dome looks great!

    And now it's...

    Almost time for robotting!

    Almost time for robotting!

    Almost time for robotting!

    :)

  • yeah! way to go!

  • Congratulations on finishing the dome! It's a great project, and fascinating watching you!

I can see a couple of improvements u could make. First would be drainage from around the bottom of the dome (even though you're on a hillside) as you don't want water pulling your foundations away. And secondly, I think you should rework your stove so that the chimney goes up the inside of your house a floor or two before going outside. Keep the heat in as long as pos. Careful not to make a fire risk tho!

  • Truly awesome work Jamie, you are an inspiration.

Once you have that bank of shelves round the edge you'll be able to get some of that STUFF off the floor and it will truly be Palatial. Not moaning dude, just thinking of the women. Got to keep the women happy as we know that behind every great man is a magnificent woman.

I would love to see a telescope in the fourth floor for clear nights, i bet you have good dark skies there, not like here in London.

  • Will you continue with your giant robot during winter inside your banana building now?

  • Oh what a Coincidence!

  • wow jaimie! congrats!

I'd never thought you I would see a video from you with "the end" in the title! ;-)

  • Fit for an emperor

  • I love you! I love Dashaina! I love the Palacial megadome! I love the banana building! I just feel loving today! :)

  • ABSOLUTELY AWESOME STRUCTURE. DID YOU REALY DO THIS ON YOUR OWN. It is an AMAZING FEAT

of engineering, and your should I hope be reaping the benifits of your efforts in this MEGA DOME, Shit you could get a whole tribe in there. YOU DESERVE GLOBAL APPLAUSE

  • Well done!

  • Glad I'm not the only one that builds stuff out of EMT conduit :-P

I'd really like to see your hole puncher. I'm really curious as to how you built it from junk yard stuff

  • There's a few seconds of footage of me using it at the very beginning of my YouTube video "Geodesic Dodecahedron Sphere" (the first of the videos of the sphere I'm building on Jaimie's land). I punched about six pipes by hand before I gave up and took the rest of them to a friend's machine shop

:-P I can't imagine punching the hundreds that Jaimie did by hand, but hey, that's why he's Jaimie.

  • thanks for the info. I got a closer look at it in your 2nd geo sphere video.

The part I'm most curious about is the punch and punching block.

  • The punch itself was one of those super hard bolts that he sort of sharpened the edge on somehow. It was attached to a heavy piece of metal that slid in a vertical track, and that bar levered it up and then allowed you to put some force on it on the way down. It was all stuff he found at a junkyard. He had a piece of metal underneath with a hole through it so the bolt could pass through the flattened tubing into the hole to make a punch.

  • I think the body of the punch, the heavy metal piece and the vertical track, were part of some machine.

  • Which way do the windows face? Do you see the sunrise? Sunset?

  • That looks Amazing! and finished in the nick of time!

Are you going to spent the winter there this year?

  • the suit/caveman part was hilarious

  • Love the entrance! it's got a very homey steam punk feel that's very unique compared to a typical box new england house.

  • I know you are off the grid but you still have to obey some kind of building code???

  • Seriously, you people keep asking this. You *can* do whatever you want. I've made changes to my own home (*GASP*) without consulting a contractor, an electrician, or even the government (*HORROR*). But there are consequences.

Building codes are for two kinds of people: A) those who ask permission B) those who intend to sell.

Do you really see Jaimie as either of those?

  • Cavemen don't recognize any government regulations that are designed to maximize profit of the construction industry.

  • Actually, from what I hear... the consequence of not complying with building codes is simply that they will not connect your utilities.

In that scenario... since he's off grid... he has no reason to care.

It might make it difficuilt to sell the place... but why would he ever want to do that?

  • super props Robot Man.

  • WOOHOO! being a long time subscriber I've watched you start I don't even know how many projects. It's great to see you (almost) finish one, especially considering it's one of the more difficult ones. Keep up the great work, and videos :)

  • Happy for you man

  • Better clean that mess up dirty.

  • Awesome! Looks like you finished just in time. Congrats!

  • Congratulations Jaimie! looks sweet!

  • The Dome looks absolutly outstanding.

  • VICTORY!!! You did an amazing job.

Knowing you designed the whole dome piece by piece, I am awed. Now I want one! but I'd have to shop for a kit because I suck at math.

If I had a hat, it would be off to you.

Also, it's too late now, but I was thinking peel and stick for the roof. I used it on my trailer (when I had one). It was quick, easy, doesn't leak at all, and lasts a really long time.

  • There are SO many websites that do the math for you- don't be intimidated. Just Google "geodesic dome construction" and poke around the sites.

  • The Dome looks great. Congratulations! It is amazing how quickly you did all of that. I started watching when you were at a house building the robot in a garage. I seem to have missed the initial build of the dome. It is really cool that you designed and built it all yourself. Well done!

  • looks good to me, and its fun with snow,

are gonnna start on the robot now ? 5/5

  • You forgot the feathers for your tar. good job but it's not done. You'll be working on it for ever that's just the way it works.

  • haha i love the clips

  • Awesome, looks great! Glad you beat the snow.

  • WOOOOW! Your Dome is beutifull! You are so awsome!!! I realy respect you dude! Great work!!!!!

Its looks really nice with snow, we dont have any snow in Sweden "yet" but i hope there will be snow on the ground pretty soon! Will you spend your cristmas in the Dome? However i wich you guys a awsome week and keep the uppdates comming because its allways funny and interesting to watch! Then again, congratulations for a superb work so long!¨¨ PEACE!

*verything is possible if you have a dream*

  • Yep, looks just like one of them nice homes you see featured in architecchural digest magazin.

    Hey, I didn't see a tie.

I thought that was Bruce Wayne and his hot chick.

  • There was no tie in that picture!

I saw a suit but no tie

also have you ever considered making a wood box connected to your house with a little hatch for easy access?

  • how many cords of wood do you go through in a winter?

  • with all that spray foam your house looks like a ginger bread palacial megadome

  • >_>

i totally didn't say both those things you took issue with... totally didn't...

    >_>

  • Don't worry, I am guilty of one of them too >.>

  • congratulations on the super-mega ultra dome it really looks AWESOME!

  • Still a dome, but totally encapsulated in a Icosagon, and palacialized. Sweet.

  • Hmmm dose this mean Robot time now ~S~

  • This is fantastic, the dome looks awesome. It just seems like you have the solutions, the answers, to every problem you come across. And if you don't right away, then you make something up, and the best part about that? Whatever you make up just...works. It's just, amazing. The robot, the dome, the banana-building, and everything in between. You are truly an inspiration, and you've encouraged me to start taking control of my life and to just start living. Thank you

  • i felt the same way when i finished my cabin. great work JME

  • I is happy! Unshaved Jamie makes me sad =(

  • Awesome! Kudos on the megadome. I missed the actual construction of the metal frame. Damn impressive! Does the 4th floor rotate, because that would be the perfect place for super-mega-machine-gun of the apocalypse.

  • Hmmm... can you still keep caling it 'the dome' though? I reckon it is now best described as 'the cylinder, with cone sections'

  • He should call it 'the hut'

  • I'd Reference the sign by the Door...

    JME House :)
