Fuck what genre they fall under or who they sound similar to. They've taken elements from a lot of different bands/genres and made something awesome out of it.

This song, retitled "Ego Death", from their new album is great - as is the entire album.

Take the music for what it is. I personally think "Exploding Head" is far more original and focused than their previous work (which would make sense since their debut was essentially a collection of demos).

I would call it Noise. You could call it "shoe gaze", but that would probably make someone mad. Look up bands that were on the label AmRep or Touch&Go. Any band Steve Albini produced in the 90's. Of course there is also Jesus and The Mary Chain... Raveonettes too.
