I am not a politician,I will only judge the planes as machines.All planes that are currently in use with the Iranian airforce are by all means outdated,F-14A,F-4D and E,Su-22,mig-29A and so on,they do not stand a chance against F-15's F-18's and F-16's in a not so far fetched future conflict,so in a certain way these guys are pretty much done for regatding the air war at least

Without US intervention, hostilities between Iran and any of its neighbors (lacking our technological trump cards) would be prolonged and deeply damaging to the trade/economy of the region. Assuming all of Iran's equipment to be dated based on procurement date is deeply naive and disregarding of human ingenuity (Iranians have brains too... well, some of them).

@Trashfished Remember what I said, that Iran is not defenseless. They have a lot of ballistic missiles that can reach Israel. & now they also have their own version of the S-300 anti-aircraft system. The Russians didn't sell them the system because the US, EU & Israel didn't agree with that, but they did sold them the technology 2 build the system 4 them selves. & that system will make aerial strikes on the nuclear facilities very difficult. The F-16 is just a snack bite for the S-300 system.
