Psychedelic agents such as mescaline, delysyd, psilocybin, and dmt help the common western mind understand how it is to be a shaman. Or at least some of their abilities. You can't take psychedelic agents and magically become a shaman; you have to understand it all in one holistic picture that combines spirit and body. To put it in western mechanistic terms: Entheogens are the fuel; but the fuel is useless without the mindful engine.
A very insightful and clear appraisal of the history of shamanism and that it is part of all our ancestral wisdom. I also agreed that a Shaman who is a powerful healer is able to creatively converse, relax and open the client, so that the real hurt is revealed. When we are able to see clearly what is in the way of health and vitality often the blockage or veil can drop away.
Very clear, insightful observations of humanity. I love your take on our birthright of health, strength and happiness - that through healing we can reconnect to our wisdom and re-envision our capabilities and aspirations - rebirthing ourselves as if it were.
I also agree that shamanism is about receptivity and activity with the agents of creativity and communication. And that the shamanic process teaches a client to relax and open up thus revealing the real source of their pain in life.
This is so right on and resonant. Thank you Dr. Peterson for this contribution! So true. I'd love to you to speak of magic as a gift and also an impediment (I'm thinking of Ken Wilber's model).
Its your 6th sense to see so much beauty.
