  • Time Flies modern version of Dogs from Pink Floyd's Animals. Time Flies is an amazing track.

  • Steven Wilson has a reputation for "taking" things from other people. Some people have a hard time admitting that. And because of that history, I don't see Time Flies as a "tribute". Not only does it sound completely like the Animals album, but he gives absolutely no credit to Pink Floyd. Steven Wilson is not a creative person.

  • @Ecrusix But he is always aknowledging his influences(just not here). He has gotten me into alot of music.

  • @Ecrusix your hilarious. honestly. fuck off. he has more ceativity in his pinkie toe than you have in your entire body. EVERYONE without knowing it, steals melodic ideas from music they've heard, and they build upon it, thats how music EVOLVES.

  • @ben10sk8r I'm sorry to have offended you (I obviously have) Ben10 skater. I have removed the comment of my opinion on Time Flies for I only see more incoming useless hate speech from offended youtubers. Steven WIlson HAS made many good pieces. And your comment on the evolution of music I very much agree with (but not in this case).

  • OH Steven is so Awesome :DDD

  • Steven looks awesome with beard :P

Makes him a bit less nerdy looking xD (Although he IS awesome! :D)

  • genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • and still no one has wrote a good tab for it

  • @PRDrum5 I'll do it. Give me some time, my schedule's full.

  • What the fuck with those 4 dislikes??? Not respecting Steven Wilson is a deadly sin.

The whole world is lucky to have Steven Wilson.

  • Sorry Mr. Wilson, but you're incorrect. No matter how many times I listen to Time Flies, it will always be emotional.

  • @legendofzelda101 Trust me. When you write, record, produce, mix, and perform the same songs over and over again, it gets to seem meaningless quicker than you might think. I do the same. I've yet to upload it, but my song Hindsight is nearly as emotional as Time Flies. The emotion lasted the first week of writing/recording. It's pretty much nothing but a good song now.

  • Sorry Mr. Wilson, but you're incorrect.

  • this song really reminds me of dogs by pink flioyd

  • I absolutely feel where Steven is coming from in here. When we are children, we are mostly unaware of our mortality and as a consequence, life seems like absolute paradise and risks are alot easier to take. As we age, however, the grim reality of life sets in and the moment we learn that someday we are going to die is the moment time starts flying by significantly faster than when we were younger.

  • First few times I listened to this song I thought it sounded like dogs but I don't really care they're both awesome

  • Oh My God!!!

Geddy Lee somehow grew younger. And he's English now!!

  • @dwh2112

And he writes better songs and has a much better voice.

  • he is totally writing a new song in his mind as he talks...as he talks about summer you can just see the gears turning and him going "hmmm childhood memories...i can write about that..."

  • I never realized it, but he looks EXACTLY like my 11th grade chemistry teacher.

  • @CakeDestroyer Lucky.

  • This man is great, you can easily notice the passion he talks and he does everything. Love this band man.

  • What I really think is that this song is inspired from DOGS of PINIK FLOYD, in the scepticism and emotion feelingless of some notes, and even in some parts of the solo....

  • Hey guys, if you like Porcupine Tree then check out my band Grey Skies Fallen on my channel!!!

  • Love pig flies . . i mean dog fly . . sheep . . . . . i mean time flies. lol. still an epic song

  • This is such a wonderful song. I saw them live in Monterrey, Mexico a month ago. I was a little late to the concert because I had to rush out of my job, but when I walked into the venue, just 15, 20 minutes into the concert, they were playing this song. It was fucking magical, I tell you! And the video art behind the Willson and gang was fantastic!

  • @FractalBolt Man, I saw them live @ Monterrey, and I was also late, I got there at the exact moment they were performing Time Flies :D

  • I think it's clever the fact the song is almost 12mins long, but it doesn't seem like it. The time flies by. Don't know if that was intentional.

  • fanTASTIC show in Buffalo, New York last night!!! :D

  • Thank you :-) I enjoyed this a lot!

  • Bad sound on this clip. Opposed by the band =)

  • "By the time the albums finished, I never want to hear it again"

But G'dam Steven I'll never get tired of hearing Lightbulb Sun, or Last Chance.

  • Hahaha, my mom walked in on my when I was watching this and thought it was a webcam conversation. She looked at me and said "Do you know this boy?" lol

  • brilliant song, got it from the metal hammer cd actually, and its brilliant :)

  • Metal Hammer had it? That's sick. I've gotten into so many bands because of Metal Hammer.

  • Sounds like a mixture of Dogs and Sheep by Pink Floyd

  • it's supposed to.

  • Time Flies is Amazing =) Like the rest of their albums ^^

  • It sounds like sheep, the rhytm guitar and also the solo, but it's a great song. The live version is more dark, especially the second part, this makes the song more interesting. The lyric is about the time, a main theme of dark side of the moon. I love PT, pink floyd roots, modern sound and lyrics.

  • The middle part of Time Flies actually reminds me to the intro guitar part in Time by Pink Floyd.

  • he is a masterpiece himself.

  • Wow. what a tribute to the Animals album. I can hear strains of all the 3 epics: Dogs, Pigs and Sheep, but it's so originally treated. I live in India and I've never had the privilege of seeing my favourite band, Pink Floyd, live. And missing Roger Waters, when he played in Mumbai is probably the greatest regret of my life. I hope to see porcupine tree in December, when they come here, and it just might be the closest I'm ever going to get to my idols. Steven is the true heir to Roger's throne.

  • yeh! i can hear 'animals' in there too!!

  • I can't tell you how literally pissed off some people were when I pointed out the obvious 'Animals' inspiration to them. I'm glad somebody else embraces it as a good thing. People acted as if I were trying to belittle PT because I noticed the influence. It wasn't that at all.

  • As long as the song doesn't completely rip off the song, I'm fine.

  • Animals is one of my favourite albums. I do see some similarities. But I don't really think it cheapens the PT song. Just look at RATM's "Wake Up" > Its a direct lift from Led Zeppelin's Kashmir but it is in fact a different song. And it rocks.

  • My best friend turned me on to PT and I thank him all the time for it! Seen them 3 times so far. Just saw The Incident Concert in Philly Sept. 26th. This album, the first disc especially, kicks ass!! I can`t stop listening to it. Some of the greatest music ever...

  • sheep

  • The guitar riff is similar to "Dogs" but definitely not the same. Listen to both side by side and you'll see what I mean.

  • it is very similar indeed

  • get over it

  • music repeats itself dumbass

  • Once again another genius writes a remarkable peice on the subject of time and the human struggle to figure out harness time. PT follow in the footsteps of the previus masters like Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, and other greats.

  • must be sad to never want to hear your music again.. when so many others really enjoy it. I understand the worthwhile experience of laying something down over and over and it becoming "stale" .. in a sense.. Steven is a martyr to his music right?

  • Legend!!!

  • why is he sitting next to two tribbles?

  • when we are children we live in the "now". when we live in the "now" time ceases to exist, as we grow older the concept of time starts to run our lives as we look to the future. learn to live "now" and time will once again cease.

  • nice

  • we already are living now, the future is our imagination 'in' the now. Time just doesnt exist full stop, even when we arent in the now, we actually are.

but if time doesnt exist, what makes half an hour and an hour different? i better stop tryin to understand this

  • he wrote this song about the time in his life when he was around 5 years old!? wow i wish my childhood was as vivid and enchanted as his seems

  • The show last night at club nokia was amazing. I was blown away. My first time seeing them live, but definitely will not be the last.

  • agreed. I was there too. really great band

  • This is going to be one fantastic weekend up in LA: PTree @ Club Nokia Saturday night, and then my electronic music idol BRIAN ENO Sunday night @ the Richard & Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Life just doesn't get much sweeter than this.

And by the way, PTree's THE INCIDENT is an absolutely FANTASTIC recording. One of their best ever!!!!!

  • Saturday night at Club Nokia will ever be etched in my mind. What a fantastic performance, has to be the best concert I have ever attended.

  • simply one of the finest musicians we will have the luck to know!

  • I hate listening to him, because I start loving him. I don't wanna love him. Only his music. But I can't do anything about this... I'm so unhappy lady :)))))))))))))))) (joke)

    I love you, Steven !!!

Any way, BE ! WORLD NEEDS PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!

  • This song is brilliant and some reason odly tear jerking, hopefully the rest of the album is this enjoyable.

  • this sounds like "last chance to evacuate the earth" and "drown with me" at least the part in the beginning

  • totally "last chance"!

2 minutes in - time for spot the difference! Although it is still excellent - Mr Wilson and co really can do no wrong to my ears right now :)

  • Boston House of Blues Sept. 27th. So pumped.

  • That man is king!

  • Great band, great new song

  • I always reminded of Animals by Fear Of A Blank Planet, very progressive, very bleak and a fantastic album with a clear concept

  • And after a while.... we can work on points for style/time flies P/F/T ENJOY !

  • This almost seems deliberate... that is, it almost fools you into thinking you are back listening to the animals release, but then you realize, again, that it's something new, because time flies

/ reading too much into it

  • Thats deep ;)

  • Thanks for the vid dude! :D

  • I think not. I think you are on to something...

  • Hogweed11 I totally agree, since I am a big PinkFloyd+PocrupineTree fan

  • Hes an attractive bastard isn't he?

If he was influenced by Floyd's Animals then I'll preorder a copy today!

  • Wilson is the most brilliant person in music since Roger Waters and David Gilmour.

  • Listen to Pink Floyd's "Animals" and tell me Steven Wilson wasn't listening to it when he wrote this song.

I like that this album is influenced by my favorite Pink Floyd album.

  • Yes, you can definately here a pastiche of 'dogs' and 'sheep' in the phrasing of the guitars.

  • raving an drooliiiiiiiing! ;) we are all talking about the drive lead guitar part huh?

  • Comment removed

  • that's the whole point of tis' song (w)right? And i'm glad the cites are from the very best floyd album - please start argueing :-)

  • You might not want to hear the songs ever again, but we sure wanna hear them... ONCE.

  • I love that song! if u haven't, listen to it!!

  • them's some ugly pillows!

  • Haha, damn true ;)

  • @sadchild70 yeah, who put them there??

  • @sadchild70 but only STEVEN WILSON makes them look good!

  • @sadchild70 You say that now, but they'e acually sleeping polar bears' asses O_O

  • @sadchild70 Those are pillows? I thought they were miniature polar bears...

  • @sadchild70 that's actually two polar bears sat reading the paper ;)

  • Wow, a new PT album! I have every single CD, but I haven't listened to any of it in ages. I'm interested to hear this one.

  • Got a song from the upcoming album uploaded too ;)

  • Beautiful song. Great band.

  • It's brilliant how little he speaks of his work, as if it's nothing for him to write, whereas the rest of us tear our hair out to write anything even moderately close to as incredible :) haha

  • Musical genius.

  • thanks for the upload~ SW is a genius~~

  • Wes said, *GET SOME SUN*. LOL

Doug, Wes, Becka and I are waiting for you guys by the pool.

  • god spoke

  • Wilson is the Master!

  • Looking forward to it.

  • LEGEND!

  • True that :)

  • Thank you Neanderskrikaren!

  • Thanks for uploading !

Can't wait for the new album <3
