i flew the good old 707...,he probably lost utility system....mains lock down easily,...the problem is on the nose,....it has a peculiar procedure to follow, next i am going to upload it from the 707 QRH that i still have as a jewel
There was probably a layer of foam put down by the fire services. The pilot put the nose down with such precision that the nose appeared to be sliding on the nose wheel doors for a few seconds.
Keen observers will also note that the leading edge flaps were not deployed for this landing. Interesting to ask whether this is due to the same hydraulic failure, or whether it was on purpose. Without leading edge devices, the 707 has more of a nose-down attitude on landing than it would otherwise. I am assuming it was due to the system failure.
seems he purposely landed it on softer grass/soil rather than on the tarmac to avoid the friction and the damage to the plane!!! flawlessly beautiful and extremely commendable!!! respect for the pilot!!!
Yeah, the nose never touched the ground! The doors that open for the landing gear acted as ski-like devices... which even kept the plane straight during landing. Watch it again.. incredible
love it how he still turns of the runway at the end.

those little flaps are strong! i wonder if they design them to withstand the weight of the plane for instances like this

Impressed at how the landing bay doors held up so well. I would of thought they would collapse right away in these circumstances.

The gear bay doors acted as wheels and guided the aircraft straight (well almost) on the runway.

You can see he pulled back fully to soften the impact.
If my plane ever had an emergency I want him as my pilot.

I notice that the main gear doors were also not closed, which they usually are after a proper gear deployment.

I may be wrong, but I didn't see any sparks. They must have foamed the runway prior to landing. Extremely good pilot in any case.
rickd248 11 months ago
@rickd248 They would'nt do that cos the plane needs the grip to stop quickly.
MrCriticOfAll 7 months ago
@MrCriticOfAll I am not going to argue with you, because foam or no foam, the pilot did a fantastic job landing his aircraft. Good talking to you.
