In Ezekiel 18 it says that GOD holds men responsible for their own actions. If a man’s own actions are a basis for judgment in the eyes of GOD, and that different men may act differently, then isn’t the free will in the desire to act wicked or righteous? In the way presented here doesn’t that discount man’s duty to actively to seek to desire righteousness from within himself as GOD commands?

I dont agree. Humans are absolutly and fully controlled by their will. The problem is only that their will is evil and corrupt all the time - so much that even the most righteouss acts are filthy rags before the judgment seat of God.

do we make choices? Yes. Can we choose to do good or bad? Yes. Can we choose to sin, or accept or reject God? Yes. Amen. So we have Free Will, the MOST important trait of ANY of God's creatures. Jesus did not suffer & lay down His life for the 'predestined members of the club of the elect', Jesus layed down His life for ALL, for ANY. How long before so called christians stop making a mockery of who God is? what about other texts, like John 3:16?

@atamotua64 so loved the world. rightly divide those words, meaning define those words. its an eye opener. it does not mean what you think or what you have been told. christ loves the church and he gave his life for her, EPH; 5;25. read john 17 the whole chapter. read; 64;7. god does not love everybody palms;5;5 read rom; 9 the whole chapter. when you study the word you have to go to the original text which is hebrew O.T. greek N.T. its a lot of work and GOD has to put it in your heart to do it

I love how the detractors always talk about John Calvin as if he were the inventor of biblical doctrine. They've been immersed in this culture of "Jesus loves you",premillenial flow charts, Sunday morning suits and Scofield KJV bibles. You fundies live in a world invented by Finney ,Darby and Ryrie. It's a curious thing, the fundamentalist subculture in America. It can't be found anywhere else in the world where the gospel has reached. Further Calvanism completely goes against the revealed word of God. example... Spurgeon teaching that a man went to his pastors college, but didnt have a good speaking voice, and thus God obviously didnt ordain that man or else God would have made him of Girth and ability from before he was Born. john calvin was not a good man. Calvanism is a flat out misrepresentation of scripture and imo evil. No i am not an armenianist either. Any time you have a doctrine named after a man, and in order to defend that you change the meaning of scriptures to agree with your doctrine you learned from that man.. you have gone into heresy. 1 Cor 10:13 (ESV) "13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

If we don't have libertarian free will then the above verse is false. Without LFW, the times we sin are because we we are tempted beyond what our nature can handle (beyond our ability) contrary to 1 cor 10:13

Romans 7 anyone?? My "weak flesh" and free will continue to get me into trouble.  Thank God for convicting me through the Holy Spirit and I'll keep trying to please God and trust Grace through the Blood of the Cross! Praise God, He renews me daily! I can foresee someone skeptical about this matter being very suspicious about the heavy dependence by the Calvinist on the universal quantifiers in Genesis 6:5 while he - the Calvinist - wants to nuance them elsewhere in his exegesis, particularly in passages about the scope of the atonement.

Php 2:13 shows both to will and then to do, showing that the WIL comes before the action and also shows that it is separate.

Romans 7 CLEARLY shows that we CAN act contrary to our will so that the tail is not always wagged at all, nor does the tail always follow the head

what you said makes no sense rom 7 is about Paul and the regenerated person, with their struggle against the physical desires, and that they are no longer master over him. Yet the war continues until complete santification and glorification in the last day.

Nice video. He makes a good distinction from Libertarian free-will (popular definition), and contrasts that with a biblical definition of free-will "by choice" which comes from a polluted fountainhead of our ontology (nature/heart). Because we have a fallen nature we have no "spiritually good" will. We are inclined to self (bible says we are slaves to sin). A slave is someone without freedom.

It requires a supernatural miracle to overcome our natural hostility to God. Jhn.3:19; Rms 8:7-8

He has a biblical definition of free will. Study biblical ontology and anthropology and you will see what I mean. It is an offense to our mind and our self-liberty though...I would agree. Which is why it is easy to be alarmist and not pause to consider whether what is presented is biblical. The Bible does not use the word WILL interchangeably as you say. Those that wrote in Hebrew and Greek used the term HEART to capture the totality of the "inner man" - intellect, emotion, and will.

Yeah man, that is why there must be a regeneration of the heart, born again, before people are capable of accepting and desiring God. I let people know about the gospel and answer questions they have but I am always careful cuz even if you properly debate with them they will not change their ways. Just pray for them. AND! If this definition of 'will' is correct then God's will is subordinate to His desire as well but imo Scripture doesn't use the term this way. When looking at the whole of scripture one gets the impression one's preference and will are the same (ex. God wills that all be saved).
