It should work fine, esp. if your hair is on the thicker side. If it's fairly thin, try the teasing method by itsjudytime and that should work just as well :)

thick hair can be fun but it's so much freakin' work that alot of times it just ends up being slicked back into a ponytail, lol...that's how my hair is done 99.9% of the time, seriously =p

hey kelsey! once a week i use a mask-Avon Olive Oil Hair Mask. homemade olive treaments work well too. i also lightly use a morrocan hair oil that my stylist gave me--great stuff. to protect from heat styling, i use chi thermal spray prior to flat iron/blow dryer use. i try to avoid using heat when possible but sometimes my hair "mushrooms" out of control and gets poufy like a dandelion--it's hard not to use heat sometimes, lol.
