  • damn the characters are just awsome lol

  • wait, do you have modelling classes as well as animation???

  • @MrMaybeimdreaming100 Hi, yes actually. Our 3D Animation & Visual Effects program also covers modelling as a specialization. You can find more information on the program at vfs(dot)com/3d. Thanks!

  • what software did you use to make the reel with the camera movements and zooming like that? Could you share that with us please? apreciated..

  • Lol, Illthilids!

  • Wow, what song is the first one?! I love it! Inspirational work! I've almost done saving up tuition for any 3D school in Canada (I can't decide where to go so I'm saving for the costliest one.) Can't wait!

  • wow this is amazing stuff right here wow what school is this again?

  • @dj02tc5 This was made by a student at Vancouver Film School in Vancouver, Canada.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool i think thats really impressive 4 a student though good job :)

  • Why don't you do a tutorial ???

  • @Benhur3243 All of the model and demo reels that we upload to our channel were made by students as projects at VFS. The reels are meant to show the final product of a year of study at VFS and unfortunately aren't meant to be used as tutorials.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool ok, thanks...

  • Hey i wonder, what is the entrey level for this course

and what do you guys teach i am doing an education in multimedia/animation atm

and my goal is to go to VFS in a couple years on my channel is what i did so far

at VFS i hope to become a better animator and modeler but my main flaw is my drawing skill is that a big problem?

Let me know i am wondering

all these reels make my jaw pop off btw

  • @ikukelas Hi, that is great that your goal is to join us! You can find details on the 3D Animation & Visual Effects program and entry requirements online at vfs(dot)com/3D. One of the application requirements is a portfolio that showcases your work (including 3D and hand drawn). If you are worried about your drawing skills, we would recommend speaking to an Admissions Advisor who can give you an idea of the portfolio expectations. They can be reached online at vfs(dot)com/startnow. Thanks!

  • the troll is from the game War of the rings

  • The first character, isn't he from Dungeons and Dragons?

  • digging the mind flayer, amazing man

  • isnt a mind flayer from neverwinter nights?

  • Hahaha! I love Drizzt!

  • Hey, I know Todd Lockwood! He was my mentor for my senior project.

  • I wonder how a mind flayer tears out someone's brain out with those tentacles..

  • OMG A MIND FLARE!!! I LOVE YOU! XD

  • nicht schlecht! ist bestimmt nicht einfach so was zu erstellen! ^^

  • O'RLY?

  • "Picture a mind."

    "Okay, I got it."

    "Alright. Now, flay that shit."

  • that mind flayer looked pretty awesome

  • with what program theyre animating?! all moviez are fucking grat!

  • Ooh that squid-mouth dude looked great! :D

  • its not the school, it's the amount of time they actually have to create there demo reels, about a year? as opposed to fullsail university, 3 months.

  • The entire 3D Animation & Visual Effects program at VFS, from start to finish, is a year in duration. Early (very early) development of students' reels only begins about halfway through that year.

We feel that anything less would be shortchanging our students, who will rely on their reels more than any piece of paper, and that the results speak for themselves.

  • @VancouverFilmSchool quality over quantity

  • I really love how the first model is presented.

VFS is truly amazing at making superb 3d-artists. :)

  • what software is used for the modeling

  • i was told by a former student you get to choose between Maya or XSI and i think maybe 3ds max

  • That's why we using normal and displacement mapping to put high res detail onto a lower poly model.

  • 3ds max is mainly for games and such,

    Maya is for Movies

  • and XSI is for AWESOME! :p

  • there is no such thing as maya is for this and max is for that.. you can do everything with every program. It's just about which one you prefer..

  • let me rephrase myself,

    Max is better for games

and Maya has better partical effects.

  • well...maya is the industry standard for a reason. I myself prefer blender.

  • after viewing several of these videos, i have to say.. why not use these as skin templates for an animation program that can handle the graphics and make some motion pictures :)

  • is that supposed to make sense?

    skin templates?

  • I think what hes trying to sugest is bring these into a animation and rigging program and make a film out of it...

Lol, Whitetyger should know that these already have films though, they are part of one of the biggest film schools out there

  • Heh... mindflayer.

  • cool, the 2 trolls in the end are modeled for a PC_game called "war of the rings" :D cooooooohl

  • make a spyro lmao or cynder bet it would be good...or would you have to have permission?

  • how does anything get that fat in the desert? just kidding. top notch work. and im sure its all retained water

  • truely talented abosulety amazing i hope one day soon i making models like these

  • they should start making so mmorpgs and get some money i would play any game they would make any

    day

  • lol on average a charater like this runs about 200,000 polys most video games can only handle 6-10k per character if there were to go in game they'd look like shit.

  • I dont think either of those are true. I havent worked with film quality chars, but for final renders, they can get way higher than 200k.

As for games, it depends on the game, but 6-10 k tris (not necessarily polys) does seem to be the most common range for AAA games. However, those use texturing to not look like shit. Eg, Gears of War. 8-12 k tri range, but look equally well as these models.

  • thats why you normal map the characters lol. itl look just the same. i suggest you google it

  • Looks like my brother

  • Why do all you VFS students all use the same audio track, or at least the same audio style? can't you be more original?

It's impressive but I would expect more from a group of 15 people.

  • dats wut there TAUGHT, its a SCHOOL

  • ERES PATETICO JAJA NO PONGAS WEBADAS EN EL youtube jajajajaa

  • u have no idea what are u saying and who ur directing to this people is the best of the best on 3d modeling and u ... ur justa frustrated youtube sucky user... get a life dont like this dotn watch it

  • cool modelling!

  • great

  • very interesting style i like it

  • Simply Amazing... and impressive.

  • Voja Milosevic, you smell like Pepsi!

  • lol

  • magnificent... the faces alone probably take as much work alone as the whole rest of the body does..

  • I saw this Reel when i was at VFS visiting my dad. Lol my dads like the oldest student their.

  • this reminds me of a mindflayer...tactics for the PSP is HARD!

  • ctulhu?

  • Voja Milosevic...you're great..!!!

  • this looks like the same tech that ea games is going to /is using for sims3

  • wicked!

  • odd..........

    but happy!

  • impressive art.....

  • exellent... haven't u used z brush on this?

  • that monster looks like its from the drizzt books.. hmm.

  • That mind flayer model is awesome!

  • loved it, somthing tho that wold improw is if the caracters are moving in like slow-mo, not mutch just buy centimeters!

    //Mw

  • Wow... Awesome creatures, both!

  • i have to ask... Are these demo reels? or are these representing the school more than the student? i notice like 25 ppl in the credits it makes me wonder

  • So true! Aussies all the way!

  • thats not a desert troll thats just a normal everyday American.

  • @jaciobis lol

  • yeah it's not a vfx and compositing reel

but a MODELING reel ,no animation and

compositing on that we see wireframes on characters that's meant to demonstrate that

it's modled cleanly and could easily be animated

and rendred so correct that if you want

  • its looks cool and all but what is the point of thease animations

  • they are demo reels to show skills in order to find work This is a modeling reel it's been mislabeled by vfs

  • I like the elephant theme that ties them together. That is one intimidating troll... looks like he has the brains ta mash you but not the brains to chat. Love 'em both.

  • Very nice model.

What about animate them, now ?

    That would be greater !

  • how much time is it required just to make the model?

  • hours....

  • hours really? prove it to model/texture those?

  • I can't i don't do this kind of stuff, yeah but of lighting and ect.

  • most of the time hours... but for 2 whole minutes of solid 3D Animation... Years!

  • If you suck... Usually if you have good editing programs you can make about 1 hour to an 1 hour and a half of Good Animation in about 2 years

  • otimos recursos pessimo gosto.

  • thats one fat ass troll.

  • Awesome... ;D

  • that's a huge troll

  • finally a new modelling reel :P love it!

  • cool mindflayers

  • i like the first one the most

but how the fudge do you do that

    so awsome

  • Davy Jones LOTR style xD

  • Amazing expressions in both models.

The fact that both pieces are from found concept pieces is really very cool.

Most reels are conceived by the modelers so they have full understanding of the source, but here the gaps have been filled wonderfully, and both Voja and the original artist's hand remain visible in the final renders.

  • This school is good. I like the arts/movies they make, they actually spend great time and effort to impress their audiences

  • Seems like Exile by R.A. Salvatore.

  • can u make it brighter, i could barely see it

  • cool mindflayers

  • good work! 5 stars from berlin.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • Was the desert troll modelled on my ex?

  • HILARIOUS!!

  • wowowowoow

    cooooool

    so kawaii

  • Umm.. kawaii? You know kawaii means "cute", right?

  • pretty cool

  • wow thats awesome

  • NICE

  • wow, i like it! first comment too:D! vfs keep it up!
