The reason the dog is glitched is because you probably played offline (without internet connection) and for some reason when playing offline the wolves are locked in their position and act "Semi-Tamed".

Hopefully someone can tweet at or message Notch to answer to make sure he's aware of the issue...

The maps centre is dictated from where you craft the map Sneaky, so theres no point in crafting multiple maps at once in one place, as far as I'm aware
