  • This recipe is very high Alkaline, an since ive been going vegetarian these past couple months, I went from an acidic body to a current 7.5 alkalinity. Thank you Manjula for your helpful recipes.

  • This salad looks GORGEOUS!!! And the combination of flavors sound very, very good. I can't wait to try it.

I don't even need to tell everyone how healthful it is, too. You don't have to eat boring food to eat healthful food.

  • i never knew you could make anything else with Dhal...who knew! great recipe!

  • Something for the health conscious.

  • chana dal is not cooked? right. Just soaked and then added into the salad?

  • chana dal is not cooked soak long enough so it is soft takes about two hours.

  • Wikipedia: Chana dal - split chickpeas without seedcoat. Chana dal is produced by removing the skin of Kala chana and then splitting it. Although machines can do this, it can be done at home by soaking the whole chickpeas, and removing the loose skins by placing the chickpeas between two towels and rubbing with a rolling pin.

  • chana dal is red lentils which are splitted, nothing to to with chickpeas! uncooked chickpeas would take about 7-8 hours to soak, so don´t use them for a salad, the red lentils are very tasty :)

  • Chana dal is not red lentils.Red lentil is masoor dal.

  • You are always a pleasure to watch; every time I watch your videos, I learn something new!

  • This looks very tastey.

  • That looked delicious! i may have to make some for our picnic!

  • Thanks again Manjula enjoy watching all your videos it has help me correct some of my mistakes when I cook Indian food. Thanks again

  • According to Manjula's website, chana dal is the split version of kala chana, or Bengal Gram. Kala chana belongs to the same family as chickpea. I found some Chana dal in the "international" section of my supermarket. The description on the back of the package calls it a lentil, but I believe that may be a generic term used by some for any small, flat bean. They certainly look like a smaller, more oval-shaped yellow split pea!

  • What is Chana Dal? I tried to look it up online but it says its chick pea, or yellow pea, what is this bean actually?

  • I've always understood it as split yellow peas... you can get it at asian/ indian stores pretty readily as chana dal... or even online.

  • Its actually garbonzo beans

  • Garbonzo beans are used through out the world and have many different names and are one of the most versatile beans not only just cooked and eaten but, you can grind down the cooked bean to make a bread called humus which isn't just a jewish dish it's used throughout the world as well. and it can be found in your regular grocery store not just your ethnic markets. just look for the American name Chick Pea's

  • Chick Peas and chana dal (Gram) they are from same family but very different.

  • dat looks great ....

    thanx majula aunty ... i`

  • Is it just me or did the cucumber look like it was a little soft and yellow indicating it had past its prime? Salad looks delicious!

  • no i think its just the lighting

  • That looks so yummy and healthy...great for summer!
