  • omg! florence nightangale is my schools name is los angeles,ca!!!!!!!!!!(U.S)

whole name:florence nightangale middle school!!!!!!!!! i cant believe there is great history behind nightingale!!!!!!

  • Florence nightingale was a terrible person.Mary Seacole was the person who really helped during the war.But Mary Seacole was not put down in history because she was black.Mary Seacole actually went into the war zones to bring out ill soldiers.SHE's the one that helped them.Florence Nightingale did not even help them but managaged to go down in history because of her white skin. Mary Seacole was given a medal for bravery and compassion from the king..Florence was given nothing as she did nothing.

  • I agree with you re. Mary Seacole, she was indeed a heroine who seems to have been left out of history books. Probably because she was black.

However, because of that, there's no need to undermine Florence Nightingale's part in nursing. To say she did nothing and it was all made up differs from first hand accounts from soldiers and reporters on the scene at Scutari.

  • I agree, her written work "Cassandra" should be read. She wrote this when she was young and wanted so very much to be a nurse. One can really sense her frustration in this work.

  • Ive read her autobio titled "The Wonderful Adventures of Mary Seacole." It was so interesting & she finally got recognized by a journalist W.H. Russell who published her work. The same British public that had rebuked her, then praised her (not all, but hey at least it was a start during that time of prejudice against people of colour). However, I would argue that Florence did help & contribute a lot. She is mentioned in Seacoles autobio & Seacole writes about her with admiration.

  • Ooh where did you get this? I've looked online but I haven't found anywhere to buy it yet. and yes, the sound is out of sync I think, but it's still lovely and better than nothing.

  • tis out of synch!!
