FF8 is the most underrated and misunderstood game in the series...people dismiss it as "just a romantic love story" but its so much more than that...ive never developed such attachment to the protagonists in any other game.and theres so much stuff to do.sidequests,exploration,non linearity,a huge world map...actual people that you can TALK to(im lookin' at you FF13)
this is what true final fantasy is and should be(its what the long time fans want,but i dont understand why square doesnt deliver)
This scene alone makes this game worth while. The Dialogue and Music we're really good, this really evolved Squall and Rinoa as two characters who at first didn't really get along with each other but then couldn't live without another.

This is my favorite Final Fantasy out of all them, and this scene is one of the reasons for it. I almost cried at the end when Rinoa started to break down.
If they could re-make the FF7 using a love story between Cloud and Tifa will be great. But, looking closely, the couple Cloud-Tifa looks like a lot Squall-Rinoa

Shiney new graphics are nice, but look at what we've had since they started focusing so much on that- X-2, XII, XIII...none compare to the PS1 and SNES days, despite the graphical upgrades. XII and X-2 in particular were...well..just depressing to play.

Erm, it's a PS1 game. Understand the PS1? I do and I think FF8 is actually an incredible accomplishment for the system.
33 MHz processor, 3.5 MBs of memory, 180,000 polygons per second, very slow 2x CD drive, from 1994. All things considered pretty incredible they pulled FF8 off.

This is one of the most magical scenes in video game history. The character development of squall over the course of FF8 is something nothing short of spectacular. For me FF7 remains my favourite but this is such a close second. The love story is brilliant and anyone who's played the game and seen the ending...well you all know how amazing it is. It's a shame FF12 and FF13 failed to have nowhere near the same impact as the PS1 FF's. C'mon Squaresoft, please make them like this again!

@Chimhazzard Something about each new generation of hardware seems to make them feel less and less like they need to make amazingly written games, as they focus so much on how good they can make it look. Or maybe it's just that they need to get the teams from VI, VII, VIII back together again. And a BIG part, I think, is that Hironobu Sakaguchi is gone- the series took a sharp turn right around the time he left, and hasn't been the same since (though XIII was nice, albeit limited).
I actually think that Yuna and Tidus hav the best love story, and then Cloud and Tifa, and then Rinoa and Squall cuz like tidus is a dream and he cant like be with yuna forever, and cloud doesnt know how to tell tifa he luvs her, but rinoa and squall r like straightforward.
This game has the best love story in the series by far. The fact that the love birds are both playable characters throughout most of the game makes it even better. There's such a strong connection between Squall and Rinoa. Love this game.
THEY DON'T MAKE GAMES LIKE THIS ANYMORE! I PLAY THIS GAME OVER AND OVER.. the great dialogue not only here but throughout the entire game.. even the little, not-so-dramatic dialogue is great! makes me laugh! and are relate-able.. Bad voice-acting can ruin the emotion or meaning in a scene, and with good background music like FF8 has, there is no need for voices, and it does allow the player's imagination to create the characters for himself, just like in books.
@1lamafarmer Did YOU read what the guy actually said? It wasn't that bad voice acting can ruin a game, it was that voice acting (i.e., voice acting in GENERAL) makes games less magical. If you like making up voices for characters, all you need to do is go into the volume settings and turn down the character voices. Voila! Magic restored!
And FYI, if you want to be taken seriously, I'd come up with some better insults.

This is one of the most magical scenes in video game history. The character development of squall over the course of FF8 is something nothing short of spectacular. For me FF7 remains my favourite but this is such a close second. The love story is brilliant and anyone who's played the game and seen the ending...well you all know how amazing it is. It's a shame FF12 and FF13 failed to have nowhere near the same impact as the PS1 FF's. C'mon Squaresoft, please make them like this again!

@Chimhazzard Everyone has their own taste in everything. FF8 Is the Best FF in my personal opinion. FF8 has more heart in it, that any other FF game. FF10, Being second. Every Final Fantasy, is Special, in it's own way. It takes a real idiot. To not perceive their meanings. Why people don't like it. is because it broke the cycle of the FF style. It was somthing new. Thats why other FF7 fans regard it as "bad", or "Horrible" Thank you for your nice comment.

@Chimhazzard Something about each new generation of hardware seems to make them feel less and less like they need to make amazingly written games, as they focus so much on how good they can make it look. Or maybe it's just that they need to get the teams from VI, VII, VIII back together again. And a BIG part, I think, is that Hironobu Sakaguchi is gone- the series took a sharp turn right around the time he left, and hasn't been the same since (though XIII was nice, albeit limited).

I actually think that Yuna and Tidus hav the best love story, and then Cloud and Tifa, and then Rinoa and Squall cuz like tidus is a dream and he cant like be with yuna forever, and cloud doesnt know how to tell tifa he luvs her, but rinoa and squall r like straightforward.

This game has the best love story in the series by far. The fact that the love birds are both playable characters throughout most of the game makes it even better. There's such a strong connection between Squall and Rinoa. Love this game.

THEY DON'T MAKE GAMES LIKE THIS ANYMORE! I PLAY THIS GAME OVER AND OVER.. the great dialogue not only here but throughout the entire game.. even the little, not-so-dramatic dialogue is great! makes me laugh! and are relate-able.. I find the character's faces leave some to the imagination which imo is better then seeing flat looking, round, smooth, & no definition faces in some of today's games... & w/o char. voices here, u can imagine what they'd sound like.. instead of ruining them w/bad voices

I think when the FF series turned all the dialogues with voices, became a little less (in lack of a better word) magical, because when it was without voices it was like reading a book, u imagine the voices, the stresses, everything... well, lets hope that square made another game like this.

Bad voice-acting can ruin the emotion or meaning in a scene, and with good background music like FF8 has, there is no need for voices, and it does allow the player's imagination to create the characters for himself, just like in books.
Or do you only read Douchebag Weekly?

@1lamafarmer Did YOU read what the guy actually said? It wasn't that bad voice acting can ruin a game, it was that voice acting (i.e., voice acting in GENERAL) makes games less magical. If you like making up voices for characters, all you need to do is go into the volume settings and turn down the character voices. Voila! Magic restored!
And FYI, if you want to be taken seriously, I'd come up with some better insults.
