  • I like the fact that he remembers who played on his first record, has good things to say about everything

  • this clip is like.....well.... what if was robert johnson? thank God for tech.

  • "can you still play it?"

FUC... he can anything he wants!

  • Happy Birthday Johnny!

  • I have to agree, had The Live album at about age 14-16, still have the original vinyl album, pretty scratched now. Was turned on to this music by a friends older brother, he was maybe 17-18 at the time. Along with Cream, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple..true musicians. Its too bad the kids today are not exposed to original music as the art it was and not this mass produced, computer generated, voice atlered stuff....

  • Love this set of interviews

  • Did Johnny say that he lived in NY. Where? and for how long?.

  • Such a kind person. Someone I'd like to know.

  • what a dear sweet human being - how precious is that

  • After reading the entire 1 thru 5 episodes of Johnny Winter he is ovbiously a truly nice guy. Never had a bad word to say about anybody.

  • Johnny may be frail and older and cant see now due to eye trouble but he can still jam.I saw him in Kentucky last year and he ruled. It made me sad that he has to sit now on stage but that will happen to all us one day if we live long enough.Being an albino affects his eyesight i think but the guy still rocks!!!!

  • The album version of "Be carful with a fool" is some of the best blues ever!

  • Captured Live, Johnny Winter And, the best blues albums you'll ever come by. Highway 61 revisited, It's my Own fault, Mean Town Blues all classics. Back in the day Johnny was the de facto virtuoso blues and slide guitarist (and still is pretty damned good). I have much respect for Johnny and have been to see him twice in the last two years and will continue to see him every time he comes around. A national treasure.

  • @lowbottomranch I respectively disagree. I don't think he could beat Stevie Ray Vaughn. But Johnny Winter is still one of the best.

  • Know these guys personally.. a total hoot. hard workers, believe in their music.. there will never be another set of brother's like these two.

  • The legend himself !

  • What a cool dude! Keep on rockin' Johnny!!

  • Thanks for the inspiration - I spent many hours listening.

    I have a 1963 gibson firebird

  • What's wrong with his right eye?

  • @shimokita2

I can only speculate, as I don't have all the info, but I suppose he may have had a stroke, weakening the muscle in the eyelid. The condition that I'm thinking of is called ptosis. He also has some problems talking, known as dysarthria, which also makes me believe he may have had a stroke somewhere.

  • @msrbutch - could be... I've been told he's blind which afflicts many albino folks

  • @msrbutch

I'll buy that he has eye trouble. Lots of these guys do. The speech patterns are just old south. Nothin' wrong with that.

  • needs subtitles lol

  • @ledzeppthebest - I've been told he's blind which afflicts many albino folks... not a funny comment, cruel in my opinion

  • @jaybirdshelbync lol im takin the piss outa yanks bro dont take it so personaly shiit yout funny

  • A lot of people say in his recent videos that he is so old and frale but c'mon people....he is about 40 years older now.

what do people expect? for him to get younger looking as he ages?

  • what the fuck is up w/ that wonky eye???

  • is Johnny well here? he sounds rough. god bless ya John , I hear you in lots of players.

  • Johnny your the man, love ya brother

  • Johnny your the man, love ya brother

  • I am just disovering this guy so far i think hes awasome

  • Mr. Winter deserves better than the rock n roll hall of fame,.................it doesn't deserve him!

  • man i wish hed come to new zealand, i reckon hed dig it here . i know the fans would . oh well ya never know

  • First saw J.W. in 1970 live (Royal Albert Hall) he was about 26 yrs old..i'd seen Hendrix there also but i found Winter's session absolutely mindblowing. To this day i consider Winter one of the last real links to the Blues legends like T Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton . His 1963 solo "Five After Four A.M" is still the finest slow blues instrumental i've ever heard.(pure T Bone Walker)

  • Johnny has always been very professional. when he walks onstage, hes there to play guitar, and he does that, till the moment he leaves the stage.

  • Johnny belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Fans need to contact the people in charge and get a campaign going. Wanda Jackson and Run DMC but no Johnny Winter? What a joke.

  • 1976 Anaheim Stadium Johnny & Edgar

Winter, ZZ Topp and Tin Lizzi. It was summer time outdoor concert, hotter than a foxes butt. The stage had a black shaded screen over head to keep the sun off the performers. After a couple liquers "Chocolate Mint Cows", then switched to Boones Farm, and all that Rock n Roll everyone was reaching for the floor and tearin up the ground. Yeah

  • I saw Johnny many times back in the day, and he was always excellent.

  • he's so adorable and true blue. It's nice to know that after all his fame and success he's still this really nice guy.

  • It's great to see Johnny healthy & sober. I remember when he was so loaded he could barely talk and weighed about 90 lbs.

    R.I.P. Randy Jo Hobbs

  • "What was Beaumont like growing up in the 50's/ do you remember?"...what an idiot!..what a thing to say man....do you remember...Johnny should smacked him upside the head

  • I saw him here in Melbourne Australia 1986. I was in High school. He played about 5 songs and the show was 1.45 hours long!!. Lots of guitar solos , LOTS!

    he is a great guitarist.

  • My dad saw that show too i was born that year my dad was 26. we live in holland now for 15 years. he still talks about the show. he puked jack daniels on the back seat on the way to the stadium. had the best time

  • Best live album of all time: Johnny Winter And Live

  • You summed it up perfectly!!!

  • @danielion999 I'll second that!!

  • First time I saw him was on a late night RockPalast concert and ...wow...this guy looked and sounded mean, cool and not to mess with. Now this is the first time I see him in a interview and much much older and he strikes me as a sensitive kind guy, I probably missed out about him all these 25 years.

  • Really a nice guy luv hes music

  • good people ,went to see him play many times

  • beautiful soul...

  • whats up with his right eye?

  • Lesson learned ... teach your kids the ukelele!

  • wow. got to see both him and edgar though not at the same time. saw edgar on the The only come out at night tour, (frankenstein), and got to see johnny headline for Koko Taylor and 2 other blues greats whos name my 51 year old brain refuses to remember. Actually it was the last concert i saw in Atlanta before i moved to Long Beach CA. back in 91 think the Edgar show was in 73 or 74. man mr winter looks a bit ruff but hes still mentally on top of it.

  • Ya, I just saw Edgar & his band a few months back...wow.....he still acts like a teenager ! Edgar always has a hot guitar player in his band.....the whole band was great. The drummer was big-time kick-ass and same with the bass....

And, in such a small place too....I could have reached out and touched him! His voice is still fantastic, tho not quite once what it was back in the day.

  • WOW -- thanks! he plays the Gibson reverse firebirds -

  • What a great clip! good to see my all time fav sounding razor sharp as ever! Thanx!

When Johnny was young and first coming out, no one could play like him. He'll always be the master in my mind......

  • yeah he'll always be the master in my mind too, I have a live recording whit him from 1976(I think), and man!! it's inexplicably the things he does whit the guitar there, he's just the greatest

  • Good ole Johnnny! I remember my folks coming home from a nightclub in Underground Atlanta, round 1966 or so, and Mom just wasn't too chipper. Said there was this pathetic albino boy playing sad songs. She told him he'd better get on back home to his mama, cause there was no way he'd make it with all that sad music. Few years later, he's touring with Johnny WInter AND, and my mom sees his picture and says, I know that boy! I said well come on to the show. Good thing he didn't listen to my Mother.

  • Those "sad" songs made him the legend he deserves to be! I just saw him three times (not enough!) last week and he ripped it like never before and I've been following him since '71. JOHNNY IS THE BEST!!! Edgar too!

  • REALLY GOOD---and tragic most mothers and fathers are exactly the same.

  • I did't understand the part where the reporter asked winter when he made his first record. Was it with 15 ? sry for my english but I'm from germany

  • Yeah, he was fifteen years old. I'm not familiar with what he recorded, though.

  • Johnny's a guitar slinger if there ever was one ! Among many other of his classics, I love 'Stranger Blues' from WINTER OF '88.

It's great that you guys did these interviews and posted them on youtube for all of us to enjoy and learn from.

    Thanks so much !

  • Johnny is one of the greats .if he is not in the hall of fame they should be ashamed

  • Agreed!

  • I wonder if he remembers playing with Burl Boykin on Clover Records back in 59? Well he did! I remember.

  • Didn't they do a record called "Hey Little Girl" in '59 or '60?

  • I stand corrected. I think the record they did then was called "Let Love Come Your Way".

  • this is so cool.considering the body of Johnnies work? and the enormity of it all? Hes just a soft spoken friendly Texas Bluesman.:)))))

  • God bless him.

  • I'am very happy that his mind comes back better and better every day. Some years ago you could not make this interview with him,he was totally closed.Jesus,it is really great to hear him talking again...

  • A fan always...love your guitar genius...ms

  • He does not look comfortable doing interviews....a blues legend, hopefully he will be remembered for that.....

  • @pianoplayinfool I don't blame him for not liking interviews..they always pick the wrong people to do the job.
