This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I've loved it since I first heard it in junior high school. I could listen to it over and over again. Scott Walker has one of the best male voices I've ever heard. I don't know why he wasn't a bigger star. This was music at its best.
@bkthin the walker brothers were initially 2 guys like the righteous brothers doing R&B scott made an album before his voice changed that sounded like johnny crawford before his voice changed john taught carl wilson guitar lessons the righteous brothers one guy had a high voice one guy had a low voice the walker brothers both had a low voice so its not the same thing more like the ames brothers real name urich robert urich was an understudy to ed ames in a play
Know what Janet? We both love and loved this amazing ballad. There have been many times over the years when this tune was grabbing hold of my heart; sometimes happy, sometimes sad. But, in getting over you it has taken these many years for me to realize and finally admit to myself that the sun truly wasn't gonna shine anymore and waiting for it to rise again? No, it never did. This is dedicated to you, just because.
Frankie Valli recorded it first because Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, the "architects" behind The Four Seasons, wrote it for him. Sometimes, the initial recording of a song wasn't always a "hit"; for example, The Ronettes were the first to record Jeff Barry's "I Can Hear Music" in 1966 [their last single], but their version went virtually unnoticed on the charts. When The Beach Boys recorded it in 1969, their rendition made it into the "Top 40".
@gibsosgerbil yeah...about 30 years before. The Walker Bros released this in 1966, Cher 1996. Actually, Frankie Valli from the Four Seasons sang the original but his version didn't make the Hot 100 in 1965.
1966 was such a great year for music, it's a shame we can't turn back the clock...

I keep on thinking of a guy in the old west about to have a last stand with a bunch of outlaws and he knows that he's gonna die
