I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR A REMAKE OF THIS. IT WOULD BE CALLED "PHANTOM OF THE OPRAH WINFREY". STARING MICHAEL CRAWFORD & OPRAH WINFREY ! WHADDA YA THINK ?
@terrorxxxnight I think it is the phantom, if you watched the end. It shows the monkey sitting there, and it kinda flashes back to the past and shows a old guy with the monkey.
god i still remember watching this opening on broadway was the best thing i ever saw (The Phantom of the Opera is so great i hope to see the show again rly soon)
I didn't realize this was the original overture. i guess you'd need a trained ear but i listened to this then the film version and this version well it reaches into your core versus the film version. the film version is nice but the this one is better.
i've watched an interview where michael crawford is talking about doing a film version of phantom (this was back in the 80s) and i SO wish they did a film with him in it. wouldn't that be magical?
@miiwiiplay i think for as long as its on stage there won't be a dvd because then people wouldn't bother going to the theatre anymore and they would lose out on a LOT of money lol!
Thanks for making the movie more enjoyable (for me the 2 big problems with the film were Emmy & Gerard, neither had the appropriate training, singing skills or voice types to perform the roles). Now the only problem remaining is that crappy "deformity".
I think people should appreciate the different sounds, after all, who and who is exactly the same? I liked this song and if someone doesn't, too bad. =) Now, if only people who didn't like it stopped complaning, ah.
Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford were the original stage Phantom and Christine, and no, they did not appear in the movie. However in these videos i redubbed the songs with their voices!
Not quite. They were going to appear in the film when it was first planned in the 90s, but as most phans know, SB and ALW split right around then, so the project was derailed. Sadly...
It was an odd piece of casting getting those two leading actors. Neither could sing opera and yet there they were. And backing them up was a very talented cast of supporting actors. It just highlighted how weak the mains were
Both to be honest. Emmy Rossum certainly had talent and was very attractive. But I thought they should have gotten someone older and with a more mature voice. She good, but I don't think she was the best choice. the problem is that whoever was going to do it would be compared to Sarah Brightman - as good as Rossum was, she was no Sarah Brightman.
Gerad Butler - lets just say that phantomoftheopera91 was right to replace him with Michael Crawford
im not like some expert on this movie..soo i have a question..the old people in the beginning are Roul and the old lady that took care of the phantom?! just making sure im confused!
@phantomofopera91 i doubt that is meg giry , for 1 meg had no connection to the phantom or the monkey so she would not be buying it but madame giry on the other hand had a big connection to the phantom and might would be buying the monkey for her self or the phantom seeing he is still alive at the end
@bomby4130 but madame giry has to be at least 40 in the show/film so that would make her at least 89 if that is her at the auction and don't forget life expectancy wasn't very long for the period that the musical is set in. plus if she is older than raoul then why does he look more decrepid and why is he in a wheelchair, not her? i'm not looking for an argument and your explanation does make sense but the timing of it all just isn't right.
@brandnewyork48 yes i understand you completely and the timing wouldnt be right at all but the main reason that im stick w/ why its Madame Gury is that the auctionry namss her by "Madam Gury" thats all im saying, and i like how you didnt jump down my throat about this, like so many have=)
@phantomofopera91 i know its a year later but the libretto/movie companion as well as the auctioneer himself call her Madame Giry, while Meg would be Mademoiselle, and Jennifer Ellison, not miranda richardson
@phantomofopera91 err...but they say Madame Giry's name in the auction. And the old man's voice sounds pretty much like the phantom so...oh well, it's still a debate today.
yes...it is raoul and madame giry (NOT meg, folks). i thought it might be meg at first, cos madame giry was what, thirtysomething in the main story? but obviously, she's kept herself in *phenomenal* shape with working in ballet...lol
What a great idea to redub this - it must have been a lot of work. Thank you very much! And so far I'd say you managed to put the cuts between the uploads in places where they don't jarr too much.
well done--The original Overture is MUCH better than the film version--I found it was lacking the power in the film, but the original version always gives me chills!
Cheers, Well I know the original by heart, but 2 things would otherwise have given it away for me: 1) The power of the music (something I found the movie lacked) and 2) the original cut off at the end--none of that extended crap they added to the orchestrations :P

Are you talking about Emmy Rossum, and Gerard Butler, because Emmy Rossum did perform with an opera company when she was little
