Louis Armstrong wrote this song and he grew up in segregation, poverty and even lived through the great depression. Still, he was able to appreciate green trees, red roses, blue skies, white clouds, colourful rainbows, and friendly people. It truly shows how some people going through the worst of situations can still look at the bright side of things.
I would call it realistic way of watching the world we live in.
The main problem is that people like you find difficult to understand the real situation that people who live in poverty is facing today. 2,100 million people is starving today, and 35000 die each day because of that. But of course, you cannot understand that, because you have never been in that situation, so you cant not even assimilate it.

The world IS wonderful - but humans are not most of the time. That's a difference. Armstrong (and other artists as well) did sing about the plainness and beauty of life like the "miracle of nature", real friendship, the hope of love and true wisdom that is divinely-ordained.The developement of misery, war, barbarism and even natural disasters have its source always in the human being. But the song's title is "What a wonderful world" and not "What a wonderful mankind".

The world IS wonderful - but humans are not most of the time. That's a difference. Armstrong (and other artists as well) did sing about the plainness and beauty of life like the "miracle of nature", real friendship, the hope of love and true wisdom that is divinely-ordained.The developement of misery, war, barbarism and even natural disasters have its source always in the human being. But the song's title is "What a wonderful world" and not "What a wonderful mankind".

I'm sure that neither Armstrong nor Joey or any other musician were ignorant or sarcastic regarding cruelness in the world, when singing this song. For me, it's for reflecting the essential values and a kind of invocation for bringing love into the world and it's also a hopeful vision.
