I will never understand why on earth people feel the need to bring their babies in a theater. It doesn't just show that they're too cheap for a baby-sitter for 2 hours tops but it also shows that they don't mind making other people's movie watching experience a total bust. I actually avoided theaters because of the babies and the people with their cellphones, make-outs in the back row, talkers and people constantly opening the doors in the back.
OMG girl seriously! Mo'nique brought it all the way! I wanted to slap her when she threw the baby, and my friends were trying to cheer me up cause I was like is the baby gonna be okay? And my friend said Man that baby is gonna be retarded when it's older. Paula Patton, at first I thought she was really mean, but when I watched the movie little more, I like fell in love with her! She is gorgeous! I love her. And when I found out she was a lesbo, my friend was like EW, and I was like GR who cares?

"Precious" is the most UGLY fucking APE that I have EVER had the misfortune to see on Film. . Why we glorify an UGLY Nigger Welfare Dick Sucking Welfare Slut like this in a Feature Film is BEYOND ME!! . Why glorify a Nigger Slut that cannot and WILLNOT work for a living and stop fucking every nigger male in her Project Complex? . Why Glorify a NIgger animal that CANNOT act like a normal Human!! . Who in their right mind would fuck a UGLY APE Welfare Slut like "Precious"? . Sickos!!!!!
All I can say is that this UGLY Black bitch that plays "Precious" is TYPICAL of the black WELFARE Female. The Nigger Ghetto Woman has NO MORALS...NO SELF RESPECT..NO Concept of GOD!.....and NO SENCE OF HUMANITY.....
.
The NIGGER project Whore like "Precious" is an ANIMAL that cannot and WILL NOT live like a Civilized Human being....

ALL that the "Precious" type PROJECT animals know is that they need to FUCK and SUCK everything in sight!!!
I loed this movie and i'm 12, but you're right. Not everyone should see it but in some cases it's actually a good movie to bring your kid to. I cried and I laughed too. I am glad monique won an oscar becuase she REALLY deserved it!
One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Precious was doing her hair in front of her mirror and saw a pretty white girl as her reflection. Later on in the movie when her self esteem is way up she looks into a mirror and sees her reflection. I thought this was one of many great artistic touches in the film.
was god fair when forming gabbies looks in her mothers womb?..was gabby an exception?..why would god intentionally make her look like a gorilla?...she's proof god cannot exist
You gotta be kidding. These Hollywood execs once again made African American life seem like a horror show, like they always do. Lets see...lets make another depressing movie about Blacks and throw in every possible negative stereotype. Yeah, that's Oscar material!!! Misstp90, step ya game up youngin'.
You know what I think this movie was a eye opener of what you see of people. Like I am saying that they are trying to tell you in this movie is that you cant judge people for what they look like or their personality because you never know what could be going on at home or anywhere in their life so I think on my own opinion that this movie was the best thing I have seen in ages so that's my opinion and this was typed by a 13 year old boy

"How old are you? I ask because I'm a36 year old woman who has not only experience under my belt but has seen lots of movies that depict white people in a negative light."
This movie brings nothing but stereotypes and this movie gets NO LOVE FROM ME.Black women hollywood is pimping and hurting you're image again for profit, this time by a black coon Lee"Monster's Ball"Daniels, who never miss a chance piss our image.
So you're saying that what was portrayed in Precious didn't have any validity to it? THat every family in the inner city and even some dysfunctional upper-crust families don't have problems? This movie tells the truth.
Maybe for yours, not mine and yes there struggles with every family. Not every black father has babies with his daughter, and not every black mother is fucked up like that.Damn do every black movie from Lee have to show black people as coon.
Remember, this movie is an adapted screenplay based off of the book "Push..." by Saphire. So Daniels didn't come up with this movie on his own. Secondly, to push issues like this under the rug is to say that we have absolutely no issues in the black community, even when it comes to incest and abuse. Been there, done that.
You are responding to someone who has been molested, maybe not by my father, but by my uncle and abused in other ways. It happens.
So what you're saying is just keep putting the worst image of our people are the movie screen.Damn but we never get nothing positive, only negative stuff like this Precious shit.
Do you think that the holocaust was something that represents the "worst image" of jewish people? How about slavery? Because there have been movies done on both subjects and NO ONE dared to say "look, ain't nobody wanna see that... making us/them look bad. It's telling history and believe it or not..LIKE it or not, it's what happens. One of the reasons why we have so much pent up frustration in the black community is because of we're too willing to sweep the crap under the rug and
and act like it never happened. Being part of a family who harbored secrets until they busted out of the closet wasn't fun because you NEVER want to be lied to as a child. You never want to be decieved about who your people are and what they're about.
Perhaps you can tell me why I refuse to let the man who molested me for 5 years not lay so much as a fingernail on my children...Its because I know better...and when you know better, you do better.
That's the problem. Mentalities like yours help to foster that "Keep this shit in the family" attitude that is present in the Black Community. Ever heard this one? "Don't tell NO BODY outside THIS HOUSE our BUSINESS!" Also, imagine how many people wouldn't be helped if incest , rape and molestation was never reported even to cops or on the news?
What does "Maybe for your family, not mine." mean?
If you choose not to tell people about your troubles..don't. BUt you can't stop someone else from telling their story. You never know who it might help.
It may not be your truth but that doesn't take away from the fact that there are many people/ families living here in America who this story DOES represent.
Actually, they have put things like this in movies. FOr instance, the Jerry Lee Lewis story where he actually SLEPT WITH HIS FIRST COUSIN WHO WAS 13 years old...and THEN married her.
You put a lot of personality into your reviews. It makes them fun to listen to.
Some notes: Yes, Patton was in a lesbian relationship. The ending was intentionally vague (certainly Precious' journey will be a long & difficult one, not of the 'happily ever after' -type). & don't forget the opening scene! 'Shut the fuck up. I'm trying to learn.' *slap*
While the editing was heavy-handed, this is a tender film of genuine depth that I recommend. It isn't about skin color: it's about being human.
That's good - someone that gets it - if it was wrapped up so tight like Lenny & Sherrie live happily ever after, paula & her lover get married & had 6 babies etc, it would have just cheapened the whole thing
Brilliant movie! Astonishingly-well acted. Heart-felt. It's disappointing to see so many comments about the film being racist. I think it's the farthest thing from that.
Funny how many of you regard this movie as racist, when ironically, you'd be racist too since you assume that because someone of lighter skin is helping someone darker skinned, it is potraying the darker skinned person as inferior. My advice to you people is to stop making conclusions based on one's skin color.
thanks 4 the review. I will not be supporting another hollywood brainwashing session. It sounds like another attempt to distort the black family unit with graphic content of bad parenting, lack of education, dependency of government, and god knows what else. This is embarrassing just like that Madea bs. I bet you like those movies too. A movie like this is supposed to leave u feeling vulnerable and a subconscious resentment toward the black male. Thanks 4 the review
this movie is racist garbage all the lightskin people are saviours and the darkskin are the devils. lee daniels is a homosexual. this young lady is morbidly obese and i heard they asked her to gain weight for the movie. dont get caught up in the hype. Am happy she asked what happened with the girls education dont let them hollywood thugs brainwash you dont support this shit
@amagin1 This movie was independently funded and produced. There are a lot of young women white and black in situations like this. They see no options or hope in their situation. This movie tackles topics that people are scared to talk about. That is WHY you may not think it is needed, because it is a silent hell. Movies like this, give voices to the weak.
Am I the only one that completely despised this movie? ...wtf makes Precious a hero again? and wtf were the dark skinned people the villains excluding Precious? I don't get the point of this movie (except to make us (black people) look VERY, VERY BAD)
@SuckaForLove1991 Come on! Everytime there is a movie that tells a story, some black people act as if it defines us as a race. The movie was meant as a conversation piece...to raise awareness. No hero in this one. Are you really worried about other races seeing YOU represented in this movie?
I feel u on the movie manners. The things u mention r the reason why i hate 2 go. I wait until it comes on DVD. I hate the wait but, people have no respect for other people or the property.
I was waiting for you to do a review on this movie lol. I saw it and I thought it was great. I agree about Monique...she was straight up awesome in this movie. Nothing but emotions. The book is great and so is the flick.
You aught to give a spoiler warning. Don't mind me cuz I saw the movie already, I'll have a review to attach to yours too. But I'm just speakin on behalf of everyone else.
i loved Precious, i could relate to everything that she was going thru, except with the kids, but as far as the mother, i felt and still have to feel the pain..
at the end with Monique....wtf?!!!!!! you have to put yourself OUT THERE to let people see you in the kind of way that she had to present herself. wow. and yes, the kids at the theater was blowing my mind. it should have been nc-17.
Gurl, gurl, gurl....I went to see it today and hun-neee! It was something to see. Monique played that role to a T! Yes chile, Paula Patton's character was with ol' girl ~wink~wink! The SLAP in the classroom was funny. My favorite classroom character was the Jamaican chick...that accent was thick!! I'm glad I went to see instead of listening to the hype that it wasn't all that! How u dewin?!
I too love the part when that girl was like F is for fat .. omg .. Smack lmaoo.. also that part when she slapped that boy in class talkn bout "Shut up im trynna listen" smackkk and he aint say nothing just sat there treated..lmaoo .. i love the movie grade A+
I read the book. It was good. I can't wait to see the movie. In the book it also does not really say what happens to Precious or the other girls. I was hoping the movie would.
I loved what the movie was about, but when you watch the movie trailer they show you like every good scene through out the whole movie... they didn't really keep any of the good stuff a secret except for when precious molly whopped that girl lol. But all in all it was a good movie, but I just expected a little bit more...
I thought the actors were phenomenal but overall I did not like the movie. It's not a movie I would want to buy or watch again. It's a one time movie and I just thought it was disturbing and very deep. The ending did leave you hangin.
I saw Precious, legally. The part that touched me the most was when the teacher asked Precious, 'how do you feel?' Her response was 'here'-- as if it was the first time someone was acknowledging her presence in a positive light.
I loooooved the movie! It also made me laugh and tear up a lil bit lol And I also was shocked by how many children I saw in the movie theatre. Their parents should've known better than that. But yes Monique did such a great job as well as the girl who played Precious!
I Loved the movie Precious. The part that made me cry was when Precious was in her class and she told Mrs.Blue and the class that she was HIV positive. I also laughed when Precious slapped that girl in the face.
I saw Precious and dislike the movie... I didn;t like how it ended, that food looked NASTY, everyone scream didn't want to see the breast feeding part and every time I saw Precious, she would look like a female BiggieSmalls... When she smacked the dude and the girl--- I kept thinking "KICK IN THE DOOR, WAVIN' THE... AND YOU HEARD IS POPPA DON'T HIT ME NO MORE"... I prefer "Woman Thou Are Loose" by Bishop T.D. Jakes-- better actors and story line had me crying.
Girl, You got to read the book. It'll take you a couple of hours. But it much more harder than the movie! Paula Patton part was a Lesbian.
I believe MoNiQue deserves an oscar; but the thing now is the Celebrities that have won Oscars in the past 5-years have not gotten good movies or a movie since they won the award.
Yes, I believe in supporting African American Film. I don't buy bootleg at all!
I saw it.. legally ;] . Loved it. Not as much as crying type but more of a uplifting movie. Makes you feel better and more thankful about your life. The ending was kinda sucky. Actors was on point doe (:
I read most of the book (because, I couldn't finish it) and saw the movie the and yes the teacher is supposed to be a lesbian. I loved the movie, it was definately a bittersweet experience. It had everyone thinking.
didnt like the ending, but otherwise it was very good. someobody had to tell me that was Lenny! I had to laugh at monique a few times too, she cant help but be funny
Great job as usual on this review! Like I told you last night, this will be a 'classic' movie...too many classic lines for it not to be lol ('School ain't gon' help none! Take yo' ass down to the welfare!') chillllle...
Omg! I loved your review! this was the first time I have ever seen your vids! Great Job! I agree with everythang, especially the movie etiquette. I saw Precious a few days ago, and I was happy that I didn't cry and break down like I thought I would. I've read the book before viewing the movie and I was happy with the adaptation that Lee Daniels took. I loved the ending! But Im running out of room to comment so I'll end by saying...Great review!
I thought precious was a very good movie although I was a little disappointed with the ending. I hope Monique or Gabby get an oscar nod. I definitely feel on the whole bringing kids to rated R movies thing. I would love to know the rationale for that. Anyway, as always this was another great review!
I have heard mixed reviews about this movie.I do not like movies that you don't get a conclusion from..I know I need to go see this movie.I hear the book is better.I know that alot of people hated Monique's character from reviews.I am a bit surprised she played the role but then again I guess I am not..When Queen Latifa played in the movie about having Aids it was a shock but she did well in the movie.I forgot the name of the movie.I like to support up and coming actors/actress.Thanks.
It looks like it's good but there is no way i can see it. I am ultra sensitive especially when it comes to small children.
How/ Why those people then took little kids to something like that (besides the fact its loud in a theatre) is proof why some people need to get an okay before they get to have kids. I mean come on. You seriously couldn't wait for another showing when you had a sitter?
i loved the movie, i cant lie i did watch it online only because it didnt come to my area, but if it did/does im deff. gonna pay to see it again thats how much i liked it.
the ending could have been better.
the moving was amazing
my fav part is the f is for fat and the chicken scene lol
i saw precious & i loved it but, i feel like the ending could have been way better then what is was! & my fav. part is when precious was fighting back after monique dropped her 3day old baby on the floor hunni i just knew she was going 2 do something crazy!!
Thanx for the spoiler alert Miss P! - I don't think the movie's out in the UK yet, so I appreciate it. On the down side, it means i'll have to wait to watch your review - Boo! x
Precious is the truth. Not only women should see this but men do too. . . .As a male, i believe our BLACK women go through more then what we think. . . . . And about Lenny Kravitz lmao!!!! Look like he been pumping iron lol. . . .
love your review. and yea i went with a group of ppl and we were wondering about the ending but my professor happened to be at the movies too so we asked her what she thought esp. since she was familiar w. the guy's work that directed it and she explained to us that it doesn't have a hollywood ending and Precious in the end comes to terms. so true i didn't know that was Lenny until wayyy after I saw it. Another funny part is when Precious makes a B-line with that bucket of chicken. :)
seen it .. my fav /omg moment was at the end when monique is tryna explain herself to mariah and she said when gabbys daddy was making love to her and touching the baby at the same time and she said she asked him what he was doing and he told her to shut her fat a*s up its good for her baaaby omg and another seen i was tripping on was when monique was masterbating an monique was like precious come and help momma out i was like that nasty mutha so and so lol.. great movie though
Ha! I really enjoyed the movie, and YES Monique did an awesome job of really owning the character! Gurl, it sounds like we were in the SAME theater as far as ettiquette....kids yelling, cans popping (last time I checked they didn't sell canned soda at the movie theater! LOL), people answering cell phones....I was thinking the same as you as far as how it ended, but then after thought, I realized in those situations there really is no "solution"....great review!
I saw it today too I love it. I love the way it ended too cause what I got out of it was she finally got peace within herself and that she will no longer let her mother run her. And Mariah Carey did her thang..I love her in it
1) To a commenter, no... this is not based on one real person but off of many people who Sapphire met along the way as a teacher. (I think it was a teacher/social worker, something!)
2) Paula played a lesbian... there are pictures on the wall in their home and I think someone (Precious or Ms. Rain) said it in the movie.
3) I thought the ending was fine... if it had the typical ending it would have been just another "Hollywood" movie... now, we can make-up our own ending!
If they don't receive Oscars, then who the hell deserved them more? I will be highly pissed as I am MOST years! Have you heard the real Gabby talk and act? She put her foot in that role! Monique? Ate it up like she made "Precious" do to that food!!
I loved the movie! My favorite scene: the fight scene... b/c Precious whooped that ass, left up out of there, and didn't look back!!
the book was good, wayy diff frm the movie though. wish they went more in depth w. the other characters lifes. mo'nique character tripped me out too. she did an outstanding job.
Mariah till looked like Mimi 2 me lol ... Yes Paula's character was gay lol ... Yeah When Monique tossed the baby i almost snapped lol...Lmao yeah the ending was a little like Umm yeah lol.. Monique made me cry at the end lol They all did great... The movie was great..Loved the part when they were in class intrudicing themselves and that one girl said.. My Name is Joanne .. Haaaaaaaaaaaay part lol
lmao... I still remember when I went to see Madea's Family Reunion, a baby started crying, and someone said, "THEY SAID DONT BRING NO BABIES UP IN HERE!"
Mm. I just saw it today, and I felt really disturbed after watching it. There were some great moments, but for the most part I almost wished that I hadn't of seen it....
I will never understand why on earth people feel the need to bring their babies in a theater. It doesn't just show that they're too cheap for a baby-sitter for 2 hours tops but it also shows that they don't mind making other people's movie watching experience a total bust. In the book
Lenny's character is a closeted nurse, so I doubt they got together.
The Jamaican girl takes Precious to the incest survivor meetings.
Precious does eventually reach the GED classes
And is assumed to pass
And lives to raise her two children.

Go to your Pastor or seek help from a Psychiatrist, not a damn movie. How come the so call good movies get have to be embarrassing.
mightyblack1 2 years ago
That's the problem. Mentalities like yours help to foster that "Keep this shit in the family" attitude that is present in the Black Community. Ever heard this one? "Don't tell NO BODY outside THIS HOUSE our BUSINESS!" Also, imagine how many people wouldn't be helped if incest , rape and molestation was never reported even to cops or on the news?
AfreeQueen 2 years ago
Maybe for your family,not mine.
mightyblack1 2 years ago
What does "Maybe for your family, not mine." mean?
If you choose not to tell people about your troubles..don't. BUt you can't stop someone else from telling their story. You never know who it might help.
AfreeQueen 2 years ago
You said it happens and this movie is the truth, not mine maybe yours.
mightyblack1 2 years ago
It may not be your truth but that doesn't take away from the fact that there are many people/ families living here in America who this story DOES represent.
AfreeQueen 2 years ago
You don't see white folks putting this shit into a damn movie and you're right it happens in all races.
mightyblack1 2 years ago
Actually, they have put things like this in movies. FOr instance, the Jerry Lee Lewis story where he actually SLEPT WITH HIS FIRST COUSIN WHO WAS 13 years old...and THEN married her.
AfreeQueen 2 years ago
For each movie they make like that, you can find a whole bunch of fucked up black ones more than you find whites.

Misstp, you remind me of the BEST parts of Monique and Jill Scott. I LOVE this review. EVERYTHING YOU SAID WAS ON POINT....
I LOVED Precious. The storyline, EVERYTHING. And Monique deserved that Golden Globe she recieved recently for her role.
I recommend this movie to EVERYONE ...except children under 17.

Yes...paula patton's character and the girl were together...that was pretty clear...
mcalis1980 2 years ago
You put a lot of personality into your reviews. It makes them fun to listen to.
Some notes: Yes, Patton was in a lesbian relationship. The ending was intentionally vague (certainly Precious' journey will be a long & difficult one, not of the 'happily ever after' -type). & don't forget the opening scene! 'Shut the fuck up. I'm trying to learn.' *slap*
While the editing was heavy-handed, this is a tender film of genuine depth that I recommend. It isn't about skin color: it's about being human.
TechnoMortal 2 years ago
That's good - someone that gets it - if it was wrapped up so tight like Lenny & Sherrie live happily ever after, paula & her lover get married & had 6 babies etc, it would have just cheapened the whole thing

Brilliant movie! Astonishingly-well acted. Heart-felt. It's disappointing to see so many comments about the film being racist. I think it's the farthest thing from that.
mosaicmatt 2 years ago 2

Thanks 4 the review
chapelway 2 years ago
this movie is racist garbage all the lightskin people are saviours and the darkskin are the devils. lee daniels is a homosexual. this young lady is morbidly obese and i heard they asked her to gain weight for the movie. dont get caught up in the hype. Am happy she asked what happened with the girls education dont let them hollywood thugs brainwash you dont support this shit
amagin1 2 years ago
@amagin1 This movie was independently funded and produced. There are a lot of young women white and black in situations like this. They see no options or hope in their situation. This movie tackles topics that people are scared to talk about. That is WHY you may not think it is needed, because it is a silent hell. Movies like this, give voices to the weak.

Reading is truly fundamental, indeed.

Am I the only one that completely despised this movie? ...wtf makes Precious a hero again? and wtf were the dark skinned people the villains excluding Precious? I don't get the point of this movie (except to make us (black people) look VERY, VERY BAD)
SuckaForLove1991 2 years ago
@SuckaForLove1991 Come on! Everytime there is a movie that tells a story, some black people act as if it defines us as a race. The movie was meant as a conversation piece...to raise awareness. No hero in this one. Are you really worried about other races seeing YOU represented in this movie?

Gurl, gurl, gurl....I went to see it today and hun-neee! It was something to see. Monique played that role to a T! Yes chile, Paula Patton's character was with ol' girl ~wink~wink! I loved what the movie was about, but when you watch the movie trailer they show you like every good scene through out the whole movie... they didn't really keep any of the good stuff a secret except for when precious molly whopped that girl lol. I thought the actors were phenomenal but overall I did not like the movie. It's not a movie I would want to buy or watch again. It's a one time movie and I just thought it was disturbing and very deep. The ending did leave you hangin.

I saw Precious, legally. The part that touched me the most was when the teacher asked Precious, 'how do you feel?' Her response was 'here'-- as if it was the first time someone was acknowledging her presence in a positive light.
mzkarmelbrown 2 years ago 2

Jakes-- better actors and story line had me crying.
sweetfm2008 2 years ago
Girl, You got to read the book. It'll take you a couple of hours. But it much more harder than the movie! Paula Patton part was a Lesbian.
I believe MoNiQue deserves an oscar; but the thing now is the Celebrities that have won Oscars in the past 5-years have not gotten good movies or a movie since they won the award.
Yes, I believe in supporting African American Film. I don't buy bootleg at all!

I thought precious was a very good movie although I was a little disappointed with the ending. I hope Monique or Gabby get an oscar nod. It looks like it's good but there is no way i can see it. I am ultra sensitive especially when it comes to small children.
How/ Why those people then took little kids to something like that (besides the fact its loud in a theatre) is proof why some people need to get an okay before they get to have kids. I mean come on. You seriously couldn't wait for another showing when you had a sitter?

love your review. and yea i went with a group of ppl and we were wondering about the ending but my professor happened to be at the movies too so we asked her what she thought esp. since she was familiar w. the guy's work that directed it and she explained to us that it doesn't have a hollywood ending and Precious in the end comes to terms. so true i didn't know that was Lenny until wayyy after I saw it. gameshowluvr86 2 years ago
