  • The Bldg. visible when the officer is talking about private property is within earshot and sight of the recruiting office, and it happens to be City Hall East. If they had gone across the street to the steps, I'd bet the APD would have just put an officer there to watch them, but not take them to jail. If they were arrested on Public Property, that would have been reason to protest all city buildings as violating right to protest the war, something requiring the mayor to answer to.

  • I own a Protective Services Company in Atlanta. If I had been one of those Atlanta Officers I would have quit my job before arresting those ladies. They were on private property, thats the problem. The protest should never have been interrupted. I wish NYPD would go to Washington with 1000 officers and take out the REAL CRIMINALS. New York deserves the chance to arrest Dick Cheney, Luti, Rumsfeld, Bush, Kristol, ALL OF THEM. I wish I could be there to click those cuffs on Cheney.

  • Thats really cool of them

  • In the name of fighting the 9/11 terrorists, ...Bush...overthrew the one Arab government most adamantly opposed to the Saudi financiers of...Osama bin Laden. Instead of confronting the...kingdom that supplied 15 of the 19 hijackers, we invaded a nation that supplied not a single one. While Bush overthrew Saddam Hussein, who had no ties to the hijackers, he embraced the leaders of...the only three nations in the world that had... supported the Taliban." Robert Scheer, truthdig

  • "Of course the people don't want war. But. . . it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

  • Thank God, for the Grandmothers for Peace. Bush & Cheney lied us into war because they want to control the oil in Iraq. Bush & Co. are putting our troops in harms way and using them in an un-American way - for corporate profits. The critics of the peace movement only watch Fox. That's why they don't have a clue what is really happening.

  • Oh my God, the brutal treatment of these poor old wemyn!

These jack-booted stormtroopers took their water away! How can these ladies, nay, great American heroines, survive?

How can this Administration send people who have volunteered for combat keep sending those volunteers into combat?

    Evil!

  • I think you may have missed the point.

  • o and they dont have to worry about getting bobmed with biological warfare

  • GOD, when are these old useless asylum cases just going to drop dead? I've seen better logic from a 2 year old.

  • The comments make me wish more people had learned civics in school, and that they had better critical thinking skills. Do you have any idea what "fascist" means? It's when the state and business interests align, such as, for example, the government allowing 6 companies to own all the media. Do you know why we have a Bill of Rights and how it protects you (when not being ignored by the govt.)? Or that terrorism has INCREASED since 9/11? Thank God someone is paying attention. Wake up!

  • Thank you Atlanta Grandmothers for Peace. Your contribution to the advancement of Jihad and the rightful establishment of the global Caliphate is appreciated. Please continue to work to convince more Amerikans that they must not resist the mujahideen. It will make our job of spreading sharia to all the world that much easier. Allāhu Akbar!

  • These grandmothers should have been arrested, and held in jail at least overnight. I'm so damned sick and tired of idiots like this who think this war is a joke and that there's no real threat to either us or the world.

But then that's the fault of the MSM who refuse to tell the truth about the threat we face from the IslamoFacists in the Middle East because it doesn't support their agenda of blaming the whole thing, and all the worlds problems on Preisdent Bush.

  • Leaving aside for a moment the question whether there really is such a thing as an "Islamofascist" movement to create a global Caliphate, that's not what's going on in Iraq, and never was. The U.S. took a stable, fairly functional, secular government with admittedly a few issues and destroyed it. Now there are 3 or 4 civil wars going on there, not caused by Al Qaeda, but by illegal invasion and occupation. Most of the world thinks the U.S. is the biggest threat to global peace and stability.

  • mm ok there are tow things wrong we didnt turn on him he decided to invade kawiait on his own so he could steal thier oil and make there econmy better the problem was we also though he could do the samething to saudia areibia

  • Why would he think he needed anyone else's oil? Iraq is sitting on top of the largest known undeveloped oil reserve in the world. Has it occurred to you to believe Alan Greenspan when he said the invasion was about control of the oil? That's the other thing Iraqis agree on, besides wanting the U.S. to leave, refusing to turn their oil over to private multinational corporations.

  • mmmm lets see uhhhhh where do i start well i still dont understand the illegal part beacuse he did have the approvel of congress and had all the evidence in the world fomr russia britian and the CIA have you ever been to iraq bc what i hear the they actually like the fact that they get to vote for thier leaders they dont get massacure for some body elses mistake and no to mention wemon actually have rights so i think its gotten better

  • "Pre-emptive" war has no justification under international law; also the conduct of it--attacking hospitals, attacking civilians, torturing prisoners, constitutes war crimes. Congress cannot override a superior rule of law, such as the Constitution, which makes treaties the law of the land.

Women in Iraq had it relatively good before the invasion. Now no one is safe, and women have lost ground.

Most Iraqis think the current govt. is a U.S. puppet.

  • mm atttacking hospital included when they rescued jessica lynch from being a captive we have never attck inncoent civillains..... bbut i will say this inncoent civallians include aqudea member in iraq and other insurgents bc they are not a unifrom army. women had it good yea right your talking about a place where wemon are subject to abuse where face has to be coverd at all times and girls as young as 13 have to marry men as old as 45 and if they disgrace there family they are killed

  • I think you're confusing Iraq and Afghanistan. The Taliban severely restricted women's rights there. Saudi Arabia (an ally) also severely limits women's rights. Iraq was a nonreligious government, did not follow Sharia law, and women had it pretty good. Now no one is safe.

Look up the "Winter Soldier" testimony or read Beyond the Green Zone. US soldiers ARE killing civilians, as are militias, thugs, criminals, and US mercenaries ("contractors.")

No Al Qaeda in Iraq before the invasion.

  • wait so if iraq was so peaceful then why where they so happy when they put suddam to death and why did he "nuke" thoes curds? if it wasent based on religion

  • Many things were wrong with the previous regime. Saddam was a bad guy--evil, in fact. That does not justify what the U.S. did, and continues to do. And the cost to the people of Iraq has been staggering, not to mention the blood and treasure the U.S. has squandered.

Please, please expand your sources of information. If all you know is what Fox tells you, you are getting an extremely distorted and inaccurate picture.

  • so its not al-queda killing i eman thats what they guys at my unit that WENT TO IRAQ told me o if its so bad then why are we pulling out and why is iraq econmy booming from oil they started to drilll mmm idk

  • Please learn to write. You see, your ignorance of the english language reveals a person who is obviously uneducated or should I say "unedumecated"? It is plain to me that the deception foisted on the citizens of our country was so successful mainly due to ignorance. Did you not read the comments of Herman Goering? read them please - and when you reply please try to use correct spelling. This is the great mistery that George Will holds, a seemingly educated man who willingly holds a fools stance.

  • redwingsfan51 do you want to know who these islamofacists exist cause of people who push and push a human into a corner then they run to the crazy facist side of islam not the true islam bushfuck did this shit they know why not to like him i do why are u defending such a loser when he takes so much money from u thats no even legal why dude why answer me please why like a tyrant like bush ?

  • @Redwingsfan51 Guess what .....all the threats against this nation is caused by our arrogant foreign policy! WE need to bring them all home! WE are economically and morally bankrupt!

  • Mary Grabar says:

    1) This is the chance to do what Henry David Thoreau did by his act of "civil disobedience," which gave him a night in the jail and a good meal. Many a freshman has been inspired by reading his essay on civil disobedience, especially under the tutelage of a radical professor who forgets to mention that only under a civil government is civil disobedience possible. The tank drivers in Tiananmen Square apparently had never heard of the concept....

  • .

    Protect the criminals,

    Arrest the innocent!

    .

  • guess where he got his WMD? good ole USA. who trained osama? USA. read some history fraido, then get back to us.

And carolina boy, millions have been protesting the war for 7 years and it has done no good-never even hear about it on the evening news-got any better ideas how to stop this madness?

  • o and is it illegal and immoral to stop a guy who toture his citizens of his country for years with out regret like when he used biological warefare against his own people where was the protest for him or like in 1994 we the un told him to get rid of his wmd he said NO!

  • But he did, in fact, get rid of them. UN inspectors said so, prior to the invasion. And none were found.

Saddam Hussein was our client/"ally" until he invaded Kuwait. We helped him win the Iran/Iraq war. Most of those weapons came from the U.S. in the first place. Then we turned on him. There's no consistent ethic of intervening in corrupt or evil regimes. It all depends on the political or economic objectives.

  • America did start the civil war in the middle east thev been goign on since the biblical days and there are certain links to sate that suddam had connections with al quedia.ooooooo o and if suddam was so good why did they put him to death?

  • Saddam Hussein was Shiite. Bin Laden is Sunni. Iran is Shiite. Bin Laden would love to provoke the U.S. into invading Iran. It would serve him perfectly. Do you want that?

Hussein was evil, but that doesn't make the invasion lawful. Now Iraqis all want the U.S. to leave.

The warring factions in Iraq right now involve many ancient tribal rivalries and grudges. Destabilizing Iraq by destroying its government has made things much worse than they were, not to mention the cost to us.

  • Only rich people with too much time on their hands WANT to go to jail rather than trying to protest the war without breaking the law.

  • Hugo Chavez is helping poor people by building free health clinics, education and feeding programs. He also gives reduced oil to the poor in this country. So don't buy into the right-wing propaganda about Chavez. You can file the right-wing information about Chavez with Iraq's WMD.

Horray for the Granny 10 standing up to the right-wing liars in DC

  • then why did he shut down a tv news station for being aginst him

  • They ran a misinformation campaign against Chavez and when their license came up for renewal, it was not renewed. Now they are telling their lies on a cable channel. Hopefully, when the warmongers and liars in Congress come up for renewal, we will not renew their contracts either.

  • wait wait so when some one oppes Chaves they deserves to be silence i dont know but that sounds like a wolf in sheeps colthing dicator move

  • We have about 6 coroprations that own all the media in the US. Winter Soldier Hearings in DC this March was not reported in the corporate media, nor the hundreds of people in 17 cities who went to jail to stop this illegal and immoral war. The media in the US reports government lies as truth and has censored the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Maybe we should clean up the dicators in this country(W.&Co.) before we start telling other countries how to run their country.

  • so u dont support the "dictators here" ( all though i see the iraq vertans against the war on places like fox etc) but u spport hugo chaves who send snipers to kill the proters how oppose him mmmmm wow amazing

  • You're just a right-winger who wants to argue and distort everything. I'm sure Fox is the only network you watch.

  • i do bc fox is the only one who gives us a fair chance a buddy of mine in 1-125 infantry talk to a repotter after a mission he told her that insurgents had shot three civillians next you know it on cnn they said "solider involed in massacure in iraq"

  • While you were being arrested for remembering and trying to save our troops, Cheney was on the Sultan of Oman's 60 foot yacht, fishing with his lovely wife and daughter. Yachting in the waters off Muscat is his way of memorializing sacrifice.

  • On Monday the death toll will reach 4,000. There will be a memorial service at SF Civic Center at sundown. We will light 4,000 candles.

  • In wars of past, only older, smarter, more wily, men ages 30 & up, went to war.

Was is no place for nieve young men.

As a Vet, who fought both in the US military, and with the NLF, in the underground, inside the US, I know most young men are no match for older soldiers like Ho Chi Mien, Mao, & Hugo Chavez.

It is good to see the older soldiers, grandmothers on the real front lines here in America. As in Vietnam, Iraq will win. --PK age 66.

  • Thank you for your sacrifice and the courage to do what many of us will not do. Protesting this war IS the patriotic thing to do.

  • YOU Rock!! Ladies!! Way to go!

  • This is great. Thank you so much to everyone involved. Would it be possible to do a shorter edit, like only 2 or 3 minutes. I think more people would watch the whole thing that way.

  • Where are the CNN reports. I think Nancy Grace should show this on her show.

  • Sadly most ppl their age are strongly pro war and are the majority of voters

Ron Paul is the Only candidate who can stop the war and stop the devaluation of the dollar

  • they shouldve tasered and drove over those domestic terrorists

    *sarcasm*

I hope we dont live to see that happen

  • What law were they violating?

  • Criminal trespassing

  • What was criminal about being outside of a store during store hours.

  • A shopping center is private property. Security guards can ask you to leave the property at any time. If you refuse, they can call the police and have you arrested for criminal trespassing.

  • what is the definition of criminal trespassing? Loitering? Did they buy a drink at least?

  • While the precise definition can vary from state to state, a person commits the crime of "criminal trespass" when she enters or remains on another's property without the owner's consent.

  • In the future, sidewalks are often safe for free speech/peaceful protesting.

  • Great work but a little strange seeing them being loaded into the police van. Reminded me of loading people into the trains to go to the camps. I am sure the polizi were very polite kind and gentle as they helped them toward their deaths.

  • Mary Grabar writes:

...the footage of the grannies' ordeal. As the doors to the paddy wagon are opened for them, they are asked to hand over their bottled water!

...towards the end the mug shots are flashed as if they were of those "disappeared" by some South American regime. These grannies were released in time for dinner—and grocery shopping and a stop at the beauty parlor if they wanted.

  • like one of them said, bush and cheney are the ones who have to go to jail, but if it was up to me bush and cheney would be hung by down!!!

  • If bush and Cheney should go to jail, so should Hillary Clinton, as she voted for the war in Iraq. Same as for Obama, who voted for more funds for the war in Iraq.

  • no doubt about that to!!!

  • very very dangerous grandmothers!

  • Terrific idea, fellow grandmas! If McCain has his way, our grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren will all be fighting in Iraq. Only the sane can stop McCain!

  • Be sure to stop Obama and Clinton while your at it, as Clinton voted for the war in Iraq and as Obama voted for more funds for the war in Iraq.

Difference between Clinton, Obama and Bush? Bush is more honest, Obama and Clinton are constant liars.

  • If you are naive enough to think Bush is honest, I've got a house in the Lower Ninth Ward to sell you...there are plenty available.

  • Thanks for your inspiring act of conscience! Peace and blessings to all grandmothers for peace here and in Iraq.

  • Excellent job! excellent fun! Come on all you grandmothers and others-shut down all the recruiting stations! They can't have their wars if the people won't fight for them.
