I wish they'd directed the crowds when they were huge back to their earlier stuff, it's scandalous that A Storm Heaven only sold a fraction of what Urban Hymns did. This and the stuff off A Northern Soul is amazing.
@Luke5119 i think this is most interesting face of verve. symphony is more easy, not bad but a little commercial¿don´t you think? i reccomend you listen Kucky man, History, drugs don´t work, and things from cd gravity grave. Listen Break the night with colour.....for me symphony it´s the rare song and very different from the mood of this group. Bye!
@slvbrnl2 - I've heard all those songs already :) The Verve definitely have a wide range in how their songs sound from their early work to their later work.
thanks your answer. I agrre totally with you.Theres is a large path between the first verve and the last only Ashcroft. It´s incredible way. And I like all of them.I think drugs are more present in their first cds¿don´t you?it´s a pain i can´t listen it with a great.....must be politely. i´ve discovered them a week ago, and cannot separete from them. bye Luke
Richard Ashcroft has the sexiest lips ever. That said, i don't understand how this band wasn't a huge success. IMO they coud have put up a good fight against the Beatles.
Absolute proof that the drugs do work, this is just exquisitely beautiful. A Storm In Heaven is one of the all time great psych albums, and this really belongs on it. Shame they stopped the psych stuff and went all mainstream, still came up with the occasional gem like Weeping Willow and Appalachian Springs but nothing since has matched Storm In Heaven as an album.
And they are Verve, forget the "the" prefix forced upon them by a threatened lawsuit by that jazz label, VERVE !!!!!!!!
@Brenden0214 RPA (My Cusion) He had gotten trapped between all of the Big British band there are now. He was givin a chance to step up and play and go big, but there were so many bands that stood in front of him. I was about 4 when he wrote Lucky Man and I carry that song through out my life.

@Brenden0214 There were one of the most innovative of the British pop era in the early 90's, releasing songs "All in my mind" "Gravity Grave" (this one). She's a superstar actually hit the UK charts, which put them on the map. Then they came out with their 1997 overnight success "Bitter Sweet Symphony" topping over top 20's on over 15 major charts; where they forever guaranteed their spot in music history.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this band had 1 1/2 good songs.......bitter sweet symphony its the most beutifule song i'v ever heard, and lucky man is ok......other than that they arent any good.
They became a one hit wonder band after Urban Hymns. And it's a damn shame because they created without a doubt some of the greatest, most blissful overlooked sounds of the 90's. I recall hearing A Storm in Heaven for the first time years ago and being blown the fuck away. Then when I heard everything else, that's when I realized just how amazingly overlooked this band really was and still is.
Seriously, some of the best music I've ever heard.
@Brenden0214 I think The Verve can come off being a bit pretentious. In my opinion thats possibly one of the things that might of worked against them becoming a huge world wide act, There's a lot of bands I wonder that about. I think it's a reflection on the poor taste in music the masses have.
@Brenden0214 I think The Verve can come off being a bit pretentious. In my opinion thats possibly one of the things that might of worked against them becoming a huge world wide act, There's a lot of bands I wonder that about. I think it's a reflection on the poor taste in music the masses have.
@Brenden0214 i looked them up on wikipedia and was told they were the biggest band in the world at one point when bittersweet symphony suddenly went worldwide
@20cFilmWannabe U2 being "stupid dicks" has nothing to do with the fact that they are huge. That's not an opinion. It's a fact! I can't stand U2 btw but that doesn't change the fact that they are one of the biggest rock acts of the past 20 plus years.
@sickjackpsychohill they had their own problems and broke up not long after this awesome album. The lead singer Richard Ashcroft has done his solo stuff and has started a new group
This was on The Verve E.P (1992), I thought their first split came after A Northern Soul (1995), then a second split after Urban Hymns (1997, but they officially split in 1999), then split again after Forth in 2008.
In June 2010's edition of Q magazine Ashcroft says he and Verve won't reform again for a long time, if ever.
They were SUPER huge.. Not really here in the States. But most definitely in Europe and its surrounding countries. Long live The Verve. They don't make music like this anymore..
these guys were so much better in the early days before they became Richard Ashcroft's backing band on "Urban Hymns"...the actual band songs-"Come On", "the Rolling ppl" and "Catching the Butterfly" are still my favourites on the album...that said, it still is a great record - it's just not as good as the old ep's and their first two albums...
they were a little too cutting edge for Viacom-their good stuff was never featured by MTV. Consider the source. Lady Gaga didn't get big until Paris Hilton introduced her. Coldplay didn't get huge until Gweneth Paltrow dated Chris.
We need a real medium for music or somebody to promote the new stuff.
In this video he looks just like Micheal Jackson. I love this song and he looks so young here. I know what you mean. This song rocks. Richard's the same age as my auntie Christine. A very Micheal Jackson lookalike here.
Richard Ashcroft is so young here. I really love this song. I am Tessa. I love this song. He has to be the best ever. I remember seeing the album 'Urban Hymns' with my mum and she said 'He's the same age as me!'. Well she said it back in 1998 when she first saw the album cover. Gorgeous. Very Mick Jagger lookalike
This is the best ever. Richard was 20 here. Indeed he was 20. Just looked it up about a minute ago and he was 20. I love this song. Richard's a cutie. I love his voice
I'm the same age as Richard. He's a great musician. I'm 38 and he'll be 38 on the 11th of September. At 0:39 that's really him! It's Richard i am so serious. I think he looks so short. I wish i knew him. This song is beautiful. I could kiss him. I was 21 when this came out
This song has to be the best ever. I am Eva and he's the same age as my mum Christine. I really love this song. The face looks creepy but still this is the best.
The Verve are the best britpop band ever. I love this song. He's the same age as my auntie Christine. She always loves Richard a lot. He looks like a younger John Hume of Evermore. You can recognize his face. He's so cute
Richard was 20 here. I could even love his voice. This is 1992 and 5 years later he appeared with short brown hair. He's always been the lead singer of the Verve. His face hasn't changed. I love this song. I look at his face and i know it's a good song. I love this song
That is Richard carandres15. With his black hair he looks so cute and young. Just 20 in this video. I could even kiss you for this. I really think Richard reminds me of my auntie Christine and they're both the same age. Richard looks so young here and he rocks. That's Richard. This is my theme song for a project of mine. Love you so much
Right, I once promised some people the long version but my emailaccount kind of died... sorry to them! d still be up for it. Since this is the best song in the complete history of music. At least to me.
Indeed, Richard does look so young. He looks my age here. I could even kiss you too. You rock and Richard looks like he's 19. He was born in 1971 he's the same age as my auntie. I am Anna's little sister. Can you kiss me too. I love u!
carandres15 thanks that's so sweet! I love you too. I could kiss you for that. Richard was just 20 here because this was released before he turned 21 in 1992. OMG i really think i could run to you and kiss you. I also want to thank you for the message. I was born in the same year as this song. I love you!
He looks so young here. I remember hearing this when i was a baby. I remember their album 'Urban Hymns'. The Verve are a great britpop band. He looks so teenaged. He looks like me. A beautiful song. It's good that he's the same age as Christine I love this song
At 2:09 that's Richard. I know he looks so young. He looks like a young John Hume of Evermore. He's the same age as my auntie Christine. I love this song
Aw he looks so young and a cutie. He looks so young. He was born in 1971 and this is 1992 so he was like 21. I think this song is about Nicole Kidman. He's such a cutie. Richard is a cutie and i love this song
it's not so much that I mind but I'll stop for a while this time, the bells are ringing and your painting is almost done like the delicate heart i'd rather go before it starts, ah less the night is our saviour when the raven beckons in your favor, then you will truly see the twist side of misery
Richard Ashcroft looks different here. He looks so young. I can tell by his hair and i love this song. I kept thinking this song is about Nicole Kidman. He looks so young like 20.
I'm not doubting it, but so what? Who knows their friend's second cousins? I don't know any of my friend's second cousins. Basically you have no connection to Richard Ashcorft what so ever.
Ooh back in the days.. still as perfect as now, it's just now maybe less drugs ;) I love you The Verve and thank's once again for reunited.. I love you The Verve and I will be your dedicated fan for as long as it takes.. ;) hope to c your concert again soon..
Richard was only 20 here. He looks so much like John Hume. I could kiss him. His face looks so creepy. That voice is also creepy. I still love this song,
This song's the best and i love this song. At 2:09 that's Richard and he has a Micheal Jackson lookalike there. Micheal Jackson reminds me of Richard in this video. He looks so young!

Yeah, Nick is a genius :) But Blue Pacific Ocean is more Storm In Heaven-style and probably my favourite thing they've done since they reformed

"richard ashcroft is my friends second cousin".
I'm not doubting it, but so what? Who knows their friend's second cousins? I don't know any of my friend's second cousins. Basically you have no connection to Richard Ashcorft what so ever.
thechosen2010 2 years ago 5
Uh, when did i say i had a connection?
I was backing up facts. And i know all of my friends family. because we're close, does it matter?

Richard was only 20 here. He looks so much like John Hume. I could kiss him. His face looks so creepy. That voice is also creepy. I still love this song,

This song's the best and i love this song. At 2:09 that's Richard and he has a Micheal Jackson lookalike there. Micheal Jackson reminds me of Richard in this video. He looks so young!
