The originality of these real brothers hasn't been duely recognized. One can notice the Everly Brothers in loads of songs and interpretations that have come up after them.
The unfair face of it is that this is never publicly mentioned by the "followers".
This is great .. but can anybody tell me what the host was meaning when he made fun of Don by saying, "Funny a 20 year old would say his name in the first place" ... what the heck was he meaning .. I just cannot figure it .. it was kind of a jerk to them it seems .. talking down to them ..unless it can be explained .. and they did not smile because they were not plastic .. they were cool & laid back .. James Dean style ....
My Daddy sings this and so it is one that was basically a lullabye for me as a small child... Love the Everly Brothers... Thanks goodness (And my Daddy!) for a wide range of exposure to music!!! He sings it to my children now, and they love it too!
Ahh love this kinda music!! they certainly dont make it like they used to! Am a 22yr old guy btw, who can listen to this all day...Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Nat King Cole...classics!!
Was born in 81. Cant find good music like this these days. all we get is lady gaga and justin beiber...pure slut music. Im going to learn this song on my acustic and keep the legend alive.
I was 17 when this song was released. :-) I LOVED the fifties! Makes me quite nostalgic to watch this stuff. I'm pleased the younger folk are enjoying this music too. I'm building a website where we can all share our favourites from that era. Thanks for uploading this video clip! (Cape Town)
I absolutely love The Everly Brothers. My grandparents brought me up on this type of music. I adore it. It's so much better than most of the crap out today. :)
@CCRockit Yeah....it bugs me how everyone thinks the Beatles invented everything with music. All they did was rip off Everely bros. Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys....then they discovered Dylan and other American acts to take from. Oh well, doesn't' take away from how beautiful this music is.
@CCRockit Its the type of music where the focus is on vocal and melody. That was the pop style in the 50's and thats what the Beatles did. The Beatles were more traditionally minded in their song writing, drawing from the vocal forward acts from previous decades. Take Buddy Holly music and throw Ev. Bros harmonies and a touch of Chuck Berry and you have the first 40 or so Beatles songs. Their harmonies is what got them their record deal with George Martin. He said their first songs were bad.
@0007mgs Better is opinion. Utilizing parallel thirds in harmonies is a fact. The Everly Bros. did it first, so the Beatles vocal sound, which is the main stay of the entire Beatles sound, is highly derivative. There are tracks the ONLY sing on. What someone likes better is neither her nor their. I just think the Beatles get too much credit as pioneers, where really they were taking bits of other acts and repackaging it with squeaky clean cute faces for the teeny-boppers and their parents.
I was too young to know this song on the top chart, but the song/music safely kept in my head. When then i firstly heard (1980's) instantly i love it, and felt as if i ever lived with it

I am an old man now, but in 1957 I was fifteen years old. I loved the Everelys. As Rockabrotas commented they were the image of innocence of the fifties and we shall never see it again until we stand before our maker.
I agree my fav band is also Nirvana but man these guys are good, they sing great. These guys, along with the righteous brothers and sorry to say Kurt are all timeless classic performers. Kurt R.I.P. would be 43 right now ...wow that means I'm old.

@sweetpopz - I have the channel for yesteryear, with playlists for every year back to 1900. I just added this to 1957's list. Each one is a cyberalbum!

I love the comments on this video. I'm so glad to hear that some young people appreciate the Everlys and their classic, unbeatable (especially by today's standards) sound!
Are you kidding me i grew up on these guys many thanks to my mum though she used to play them all day and i will jsut beat drums using my toothbrush lol. those were fun days.
@Grampy1975 : We BOTH have good taste in music. I like our old 8 track - It always sounded so much better in the car than the cassettes and cd's that followed. I wish I had kept all those 8 track cassettes!
@justmusicandme I'm so thankful for my mom and her record player! lol I know all these oldies and it was just a simpler time in music and in my opinion a much better time!
@greeneyeslinz There must be some reason that so many people are nostalgic about those days. I think it has a lot to do with the music. You could always find something GOOD to listen to on the radio!
Well , I was a very young boy when this song came out and in those days all you had was the radio for many people- and not even FM. Its wonderful that with technology today(ie You Tube) people can enjoy the music as if it they were there anyway..I remember that you waited with anticipation as the classics rolled out year after year in the 50s and 60s. Very exciting- the air was electric- the mood very much defined by these talented artists and songwriters.
I like this live version because it is more true to the original released singe. In later years, the Everlys slightly modified their own arrangement, and I liked the original version best.
"I think Pat Boone is old enough to be their grandfather" lol.
I'm 18 and I think it really sucks that more people my age don't know or appreciate this type of music, and The Everly Brothers.
I grew up with Elvis but I never really explored any other '50s artists until my grandma introduced me to Ricky Nelson. and then I found the Everly Brothers by watching an infomercial for one of those golden oldies CD packages. and I'm really glad I did, because the Everly Brothers are fantastic.

Such a happy tune for kinda sad lyrics. After listening to their songs, I'd have to call them the original emo kids. Not bad at all, though; I like their songs a lot.
Elvis was already on the scene for over a year, so I am guessing it may have been Jerry Lee Lewis, whose first hit, "Whole Lot Of Shakin' Goin On," debuted on the charts about a month after Bye Bye Love.
