How do you get the particles to use the fragments as collision bounds? the shards in my tests always go right through the obect they're colliding with. How do you make them not go through the ground?

I bet you used Blender 3D Physics. Or does it come with Blender?

No, I used particles to achieve this effect, the only physics used was the built in bullet engine for collision with the particles.
