Correct me if I am wrong, but this is not a religious issue but more a cultural issue. In many ways, this pre-nuptial arrangement isn't much different than debutante balls where young rich white ladies are paraded for upper class men in order to court a suitable mate. When one thinks about it there is still unsettled enmity between blacks and whites in this country(usually among the lower economic classes of both groups) stemming from desegregation and the Civil rights movements. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is not a religious issue but more a cultural issue. In many ways, this pre-nuptial arrangement isn't much different than debutante balls where young rich white ladies are paraded for upper class men in order to court a suitable mate. Also,to do with teaching cultural traditions that force young people to their parents' wishes. Religion may be a part for some, bt the end result is because many dont teach our children "freedom of choice" right from the start.

I see both both sides to this. For the girls and boys forced into marriage, especially those brought up in the western world, a more liberal free world, sorry to say, but it's true. It must be extremely hard to go through, families force the kids to do this for honour, for respect, for money, power, family wealth, which is why they marry cousins etc. Asians who have grown up in the West have new ideals, new ideas. But of course parents are traditional, from the old world. It's very hard.

I won't even begin to talk about the millions of uneducated lower class Mexicans bringing their "La Raza/Reconquista" mindset over here. This country in its form as we know it now may become no more in the middle of this century. No one seems to want mix in and get along. When one thinks about it there is still unsettled enmity between blacks and whites in this country(usually among the lower economic classes of both groups) stemming from desegregation and the Civil rights movements. Now you have lower class immigrant groups like Indians and Arabs bringing their caste-system cultures, sharia laws and what have you here as well. I fear what the U.S. will be in another 50 years, even more for my children and grandchildren when they come of age at this time.
