He did not have the rope around his arm. It was a nylon rope which wasn't designed for the amount of pressure. As the rope snapped, the massive amount of force it had on the rebound (80,000kg) was enough to snap the arm of two people.
Both arms were thankfully successfully reattached, however.

It was reattached though, but I don't know how much use he regained.
man that guy must have had an amazing grip. If you ask me it was amputee playing a stunt. No way the rope could have ripped his arm off before he lost grip.
